- In this video I get the tractor back from the dealer and show how I modified a pallet with some heavy duty casters to be able to wheel around IBC totes full of firewood on my patio!

Love what youve done with the shop
Thanks Adam! Your videos gave me some inspiration and more importantly motivation to get things in shape!
Jake- you beat me to it! I wanted to make a video of building a cart to set IBC totes on to push them around in the garage or basement. Nice idea!
Well now I did the R&D for you Chad! Be sure to use that affiliate link in the description 😂 the wheels are pretty awesome!
W.V in tha house!!!!!!
Horns down!!! Let’s go Mountaineers!! Alumni WVU ‘15
I need an IBC tote cart! Great idea!
It works really well!!!
You can find big caster wheels with wheel locks. Will eliminate moving around on patio. Great videos. Great content.
Thanks Curt! The ones I saw with locks were very expensive and more for a concrete floor surface. I will be making some wheel chocks for it!
I have the same exact casters for dollies in my shop. They're great!
I was really surprised at their quality considering their price!
Good jop on your video this was really good your shop look really nice you did a goid jop on at your dog is get big i like your new video love your video buddy 🍺🍺
Thanks Travis! The shop is a joy to work in now, and Louie is getting big fast!!
Glad to hear that the Kubota just had a leaking hydraulic hose. Hadn't seen the Cormidi in action lately. Any problems with it? Woo-hoo to the new subscriber additions.
Yes me too! Luckily it was all covered under warranty! No issues with the Cormidi, it should be back on the channel soon! The subscriber bump is nice!! Growing slow and steady…
You must measure moisture at freshly split inner surfice of firewood. If you measure on surfice 21% then i'm sure its way higher inside. Even 21% is too high moisture and make way more airpollution than dry firewood.
Good Idea, nice layout 🚜👍🏼🪵🇺🇸
Thanks Larry! Those wheels save a lot of effort!
I put just about everything on dollies. They make life so much easier.
I’m always looking to work smarter not harder Richard!
That works nice and smooth. You might want to block a couple of wheels in case it gets really windy.👍😎
Yep I’m need to make a wheel chock of some kind. I wish the casters had wheel locks!
You need to have two lockable caster wheels to lock the pallet in place.
Yeah I wish they had wheel lock on them, I will make small wheel chocks to keep it from rolling away!
Hi Jake Dude - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I used to split logs for a big firewood guy and my only mechanisation was a wheelbarrow. He used half cord wooden crates which were a right bummer to handle so I bought an old pallet truck for $100, which transformed my operation and increased efficiency. Some of the benefits were the ability to prevent a load running away by itself and also the control of moving it exactly where you needed the load to be. When I finished that project I sold it for a greater price. However, you dolly truck would have been cheaper - I only hope it doesn't take off across your lawn!!
Work smarter not harder! That’s the name of the game! Sounds like it was $100 well spent Big Rodders! I think I am going to make some kind of little wheel chock to prevent it from rolling. If the casters had wheel locks on them then they would be perfect!!
@@DudeRanchDIY Jake - Big Rodders again. How about cutting a U shape out of a car tyre with an angle grinder, slide them in each side of the castor wheel and Hey Presto - you've got that cage going nowhere. The next pint of beer is on you - Cheers!
Great job! Question: how about just a pallet jack to move the IBC around? Biggest issue with moving fully packed seasoned wood crate into your basement is mouse nests in the wood.
A pallet jack would definitely work if I had one! I do think the large casters I got probably roll easier though, and were much cheaper than a pallet jack!
You might want to throw something under the wheels to avoid the wind dumping your tote off the side of your patio.
Yes some wheel chocks are in order! Thanks Barry!
Could cut the cage down another level so Sarah can get the wood out without falling in ... or you can set up a security camera to catch the footage when she does..lol
Ahaha I like both those ideas! Only issue is actually getting her to bring wood in…
very cool design. I'm wondering if I can make something similar design to be towed across my yard with an ATV (I don't have a tractor). Other thing I would need to think about is how to lift the tote from the ground onto the dolly.... hmmm
They make some rough terrain pallet jacks that might work.
Work area lookz great.HTA got some folks motivated. Any place down there for a woodstove?
Thanks Mike! He sure did, I’ve been wanting to organize the area ever since we moved in and just kind of threw everything down there. Feels good to make it my own. There’s room for a stove but not necessary at all considering our furnace is down there and keeps the area nice and warm!
You did not show dumping the heavy load of logs you picked up in the last video. I was curious to see if your dump trailer hydraulics had the power to dump them.
Yeah by the time I got to the sawmill yard it was very dark! The trailer dumped them with absolutely no problem at all! Thanks for watching Ed!
To get an accurate assessment, you need to split the pieces and check the newly exposed surfaces for moisture.
Considering that the overwhelming majority of moisture in hardwood moves in a vertical direction following the wood pores and vessels seeking lesser pressures I don’t find that the extra step of splitting the wood open provides any more accurate of a moisture measurement than not!
I’ve found that as long as the probe is placed in the center of the piece rather than towards the outside it provides an accurate moisture reading for the purposes of firewood.
@@DudeRanchDIY If the wood is close to fully seasoned, it won't be too different, but if it is only partially seasoned, the center will be wetter than the end surfaces. It is the moisture gradient between the interior and the exposed surfaces that drives the moisture to the surface of the wood. There is less resistance per unit distance through the wood to moisture diffusion along the grain than across the grain, but the shorter distance across the grain helps to make up for that difficulty. That is why splitting wood smaller speeds the drying process.
Absolutely I agree! I see I’m not the only one here that knows a little about wood science! I majored in wood science and technology in college haha. You are right about moisture gradient, I think for all intensive purposes though in regards to firewood and testing with a moisture meter if it’s wet it’s wet and if it’s dry we know it and the meter will reflect that 😂
What is with the nuts on the back of your truck
Haha nothing with them, my friend was a tower crane operator on the new Tappan Zee bridge project a few years ago and the nuts came off the bridge. Just a joke!
Jake? Where is Sara?
She was inside working!! I’ll try to get her in a video soon!!
