Hey guys, sorry for the lack of video yesterday, I have been a bit under the weather. Also sorry for not getting the bonus objective, I have been a bit under the weather. If you see anybody in the comments upset about this, please both point and laugh at them for being mad about a video game.
as a static defense entrepreneur, yeah that was just insanity, it was already impressive enough that Grant managed to salvage that and get a win. his most solid defense was the one on the bottom right, and u could see that close to the end it was barely holding itself together. it's sad that he lost the bonus, but it would've been a massive ordeal to try and get it. his choice was completely reasolable. but well, with that said, i think there's a total of 20 solarite missed, hopefully it won't come back to bite him later on
Sad day for the swarm. A new strain of spine crawler with greater reach appeared on Shakuras, but the planet blew up before a sample could be retrieved and will be lost forever. x') Thanks for being up to the challenge! ^^ And Zenith Stones!
I actually think purposely losing a stone early might make it easier, particularly if going for the bonus. If going for the bonus, you don't need all 3 stones to charge to reach full charge before the bonus is achieved. First, you can set up a better concave on the ramps for a more effective defense on that lane. If you do this early, your defenses will hold better. And with a good defense there, you can funnel more resources to the other lanes. Secondly, when Grant did lose stones late, it massed multiple attack waves at the stone, which once the stone was destroyed, then proceeded to all hit his base at once and he couldn't defend. Early on though, the storms the stones release are effective against the weaker units, so the bunched up waves there got thinned out and were not threatening once they moved on to his base. So by taking that loss early, you don't have to defend against multiple overwhelming waves at once. In fact, the stones end up doing some early clearing, so letting one fall actually takes off the early pressure and gives you time to properly build your defense. I'd still probably use some DTs to defend that lane for a little while like grant did. Just once its time to set up permanent defenses, give up one of the lanes and fall back to the ramp in that lane.
Fortunately knowing Mindhawk we can assume the ultimate spear skills will be severely nerfed so i guess it's fine that Grant will most likely not get them XD Next mission is known for being hard so i would laugh if the challenge was "no challenge, this one is hard enough already" tho
I love watching grant, because he will see a hint that is super vague and somehow give a perfect prediction of what is about to happen, and other times the challenge hint will say "the Zenith stones are needed to charge the temple." and then be confused as to why he cant attack it. AND HE STILL IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET EVEN SLIGHTY ANNOYED WITH.
@@kabob0077 Wasn't that the one where Zeratul kept screaming "What? Impossible!?" all the time in every situation? Whereas in the previous arc he fought against the three Xel'Naga Pillar Zealots? And he needed the help of the Tal'darim to defeat them? "Tal'darim warriors are the best warriors!"
I've tried defending the lanes before, and it's rough. The best place to start is actually in line with the Zenith stones, since you can expand the firing arc into that area. In the end, though, I had to start building units to supplement the defense, since there simply isn't enough damage density from cannons in such a confined space.
15:34 seems like an ideal situation for the little-used Patrol command. Set the DTs on a short patrol back and forth across the path, they'll attack stuff that comes close but then go back to that path when there's no enemies around.
The comment about "losing at the 30 min mark because you messed up at the 5 min mark" reminds me of xcom long war, one of my favorite games ever (technically a mod but it makes the base game look like easy mode tutorial), although there it's "you messed up 5 real life weeks ago so you lose now", personally I don't think that's bad design but it's definitely an opt-in kinda thing.
One of my favorite games/mods. Yeah you definitely need to think about things through as one of the easiest ways to lose the mid-game is if you don't prioritize upgrading and improving your aircraft pretty early on. Then you get to sit and glumly watch as dozens of ufos swarm your chosen continent wreaking havoc while all your jets are currently being repaired.
Yeah, the bonus is absolutely impossible if you're going for the "defend all 3 stones" strategy. You'd need perfect baneling sniping micro which is just not realistic. The monoliths are too damned big to fit in the lanes and you really need lots of them to hold anything after 800M. It might be possible if you gave up one stone and defended the ramp in that lane, but even then, that's a hell of a long time to survive against constant waves of hybrid and banelings.
Buy the void. This is how I play this mission in coop with Karax, defending in base is boring, push out and take over enemy spawn location :D 28:15 From the creators of Tall Zealot, comes brand new Long Crawler
Really glad that the right side stone had super good position. Not only the chokepoint is narrow enough but the attack wave also had to make a U turn to get to it
I’m not mad about the lack of the bonus objectives, I’m just worried that the later missions will be balanced around having all the solarite, so missing 10 last mission and 10 this mission could push them over the edge.
So, with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, I think it would/might be better to do this mission with 1) maxed out building speed and 2) Energizers (to mainly boost Dragoons; Annihilators would be a nice addition too, but probably too expensive) and 3) Shield Batteries are simply not worth the real-estate - you need max damage output, so either cannons or monoliths :') I think that's what I'm gonna try out when this mod becomes available (only to get rekt cuz my skill level is wayyyy below Grant's, lol)
I really like Tower Defense games which is why this is one of my favorite missions to do. Though I've never used the Monoliths to defend since I don't got them in COOP, I still love defending with static defenses. Kind of a shame you don't like the mission as well but it's understandable, I would hate this mission if I played Mindhawk's challenge too lol
Zenith Stones: Assuming each zenith stone charges at constant speed relative to the number of zerg in shakuras, then the bonus could be achieved by focussing on defending 2 Zenith Stones and sacking the other Zenith Stone, most likely, the Zenith Stone near the main entrance. This mission is nice in theory but it is just last stand but you can lose, so i guess its worse lol. Indeed, Stones
It seems if you go for the solarite you can do just 2 zenith stones and recharge in time. Maybe that could save enough minerals in one defense (cause you won't have to replace your defensive buildings on a ramp) to then keep the other 2 going? Or do some light defense of 3 for a while then drop to 2 or 1 later.
The playlist order grant eh playlist order! other than that love the vods and the challenge if its hard for you i can't imagine trying myself i aint that skilled
Since the stones attack the zerg (and I assume not you), I feel like there might be a decent strategy of putting some defence around the stones and some up the ramp. The stone's extra damage and the enemies splitting themselves up might make up for the added cost of building in more locations.
okay so the next meme mod will have infinite range tentacles with no vision so you just sit them at that back of your base and let them hit everything as you move lol.
Was my first thought, but it might not work all that well. The thing to keep in mind is that the zerg number ramp up is not linear. 1B takes 25 min while 1.5B takes 30min. It seems that if he kept all stones perfectly healthy, full charge will happen at around 24.5--he started losing them at 24 and full charge at 25.3 min. This means assuming charge rate reduction is linear, losing one stone as early as possible (at around 2 min mark) he would need to defend till about 35. An extra 5 min on the tail end of this mission is murder. To get a 30 min charge, he would need to keep all 3 for about 15 min, then run on two for the next 15. But the amount of investment to keep one for 15 min is pretty heavy and at that point I'm not sure if it's reasonable to give it up. Especially as your defense line is just going to fall back at your base but you are still effectively defending 3 points so there isn't much benefit.
Honestly, why would I be mad that you didn’t do the bonus objective? At the absolute worst, it’s going to bite you later when you really want something for spear of adun and you’ll be 10 short. But other than a “ha ha, things are harder” bit, nothing really changes. Hope you’re feeling better now!
