Stoat And Partridge

  • Returning from our usual shopping visit to Swaffham; we normally crawl through the small lanes hoping to see some wildlife. We'd already seen an Hare and we pulled into one of our favourite fields and this all happened 20 metres in front of us. The quality is not brilliant because it was filmed through the car windscreen. The Partridge was mesmerised by The Stoat and several times got very close, indeed close enough for The Stoat to strike. Eventually The Partridge flew off unharmed, a very close call. The Stoat continued to entertain us for a few minutes before disappearing.
    I believe that Stoats use this sort of behaviour to get close enough to strike at their prey. This all happened near Little Cressingham, Norfolk.

    Awesome video. I had watched a similar video where a stoat did similar behavioral acrobatics before a rabbit until the rabbit ignored it one moment and at that one moment the stoat struck.. and bingo. Thanks for sharing a priceless gem.

      I am afraid this is what is called a death dance and this is one very lucky Partridge. Normally the animals that see this end up as the Stoat’s dinner. Thanks for watching and commenting. Stay safe.

    Stoat has rabies?

    • @RobMellowship
      @RobMellowship  6 років тому +3

      No, this is how they entrance their victims. The prey is fascinated by the antics of the Stoat and all the time gets closer and closer until it is able to pounce on the victim and do the dastardly deed. The Stoat is one of the deadliest creatures in the UK countryside. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @blaggerfiftysix
      @blaggerfiftysix 6 років тому

      It is what is known as 'mesmerising' - the stoat does this for a while to get within striking distance until 'Robert is your dad's bother' - the stoat pounces

    Actually by its actions I'm wondering that every single time the stoat got with range and at the right kind of angle to strike at the partridge some attention seeking twat fired a air pistol or made some noise to deprive it of its meal, as opposed to just letting things be and letting us watch a video of it catching the partidge if it could.
