Desdemona, Peter Sellars, Toni Morrison & Rokia Traoré, 2013 | Holland Festival Parels

De voorstelling “Desdemona” is ontstaan uit een samenwerking tussen drie kunstenaars: de Amerikaanse schrijfster Toni Morrison, de Malinese singer-songwriter Rokia Traoré en de Amerikaanse regisseur Peter Sellars. Waar Desdesmona in Shakespeares toneelstuk Othello slechts een kleine rol heeft, neemt ze in “Desdemona” de hoofdrol in. Ze krijgt een stem en spreekt over racisme, oorlog en onderdrukking. In dit fragment gaan Rokia Traoré en Marcia Luyten in gesprek over de voorstelling “Desdemona” gevolgd door een live-uitvoering van de muziek van Traoré.
The performance "Desdemona" is a collaboration between three artists: the American writer Toni Morrision, the Malinese singer-songwriter Rokia Traoré and the American director Peter Sellars. Unlike in "Othello" by William Shakespeare where Desdemona gets a small role, here she acts as the main character and gets a voice to talk about racism, war and oppression. In this fragment Marcia Luyten talks with Rokia Traoré about "Desdemona" followed by a live musical performance by Traoré.

Naar aanleiding van het 70-jarig jubileum (2017) en het 75-jarig jubileum van Holland Festival (2022) hebben het festival en de VPRO onder de naam ‘Holland Festival Parels’ een duurzaam online platform ingericht. Het publiek vindt hier korte televisiefragmenten uit en over producties, die het Holland Festival de afgelopen zeven en een half decennia in Nederland presenteerde. Deze televisiefragmenten van diverse publieke omroepen zoals de NTR en VPRO zijn vaak eenmalig op televisie te zien geweest. Ze zijn nu als hommage en als online archief beschikbaar gemaakt.
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary (2017) and the 75th anniversary of Holland Festival (2022), the festival and the VPRO have set up a sustainable online platform under the name 'Holland Festival Gems’. Here, the audience will find short television excerpts from and about productions presented by the Holland Festival in the Netherlands over the past seven and a half decades. These television fragments from various public broadcasters such as NTR and VPRO have often been shown once on television. They have now been made available as a tribute and as an online archive.
