  • Today I showcase way better looking visuals with fresnel phong reflection (credit to my friend Spanky), dot shading, and more optimized blurring code. I also fixed the weapon drawing under the water.

@shangex4795 They didn't say "Considering that this is the first iteration [...]", they said "considering the first iteration". As in, keeping in mind what the first iteration was, this is great in comparison.
Side note: This is great in ANY comparison. Simply put, nothing like GWater exists out there so this is amazing regardless.

this is now magic, my final concern is weird combinations of props, some props disappeared when behind gwater 1, and complex prop intersections created passages for water to leak through.

There is something very satisfying about just launching this stuff at the wall and watching it just _splat there like congealed porridge._
I maintain what I said in a comment in an earlier video - this is the "go back in time and show a Pilgrim your smartphone, and watch his head explode" meme, and the 'Pilgrim' in this case is 'everyone who grew up with the Source Engine'.
Actual witchcraft. You will finish this project, and then you will be delivered to God on a burning pyre for your witchcraft.

Glad to see you're still working on this. The shaders here look a lot better than in the previous video, which looked more like Dipping Dots mush than actual water. However, I feel that you're approaching an upper limit with your current version of GWater.
Simply put, I don't see better shaders being the method that makes GWater2 look convincing. I think you should seriously consider adding some kind of at-rest deformation, where the individual water particles "squash" and settle into wide, rather flat domes/discs when they stop moving. This could probably be achieved via animated sprites, although naturally, this will increase the memory cost by having these extra anim frames, but the results might be better enough to make the endeavor worth it.
Just my 2 cents. Keep it up, looking forward to the next video.

i guess the most realistic look would now be the smaller the "water balls" and higher the quantity the more itd look like water, maybe its possible to create a similar effect with these? like making them stick even more together and seemless somehow or having it change to some kind of droplet looking thingy when its in the air? or what about having individual balls bend?
