    I think one of the most important things I learnt from riding the T-bar is to NOT fight it and let the bar take you where it wants. 99% of the time it will adjust course and take you back onto the main path. Really just relax your body, bend your knees slightly and go with the flow.

    • @davidodler4051

      Exactly what I wanted to point out :) the more I cared about where it takes me and wanted to adjust my path, the more screwed up the situation always appeared, hahaha

    I find that if you put your weight distributed equally on both feet and RELAX instead of tensing up, you will go up the t-bar better. This is what the Lift person advised me and I haven't fallen since.
    It is important that if your board is slippery between bindings, get a stomp pad to help.

    Man oh man.. I remember last year when I went to smuggs, I went over to the big mountain(it sucked ass, pure ice last year) but I went on the t bar there, and the first two times I just held onto it with my hands. (It worked) Then the third time.. Well I was going by just my hands again, and I hopped to get a better position because my board was going off to the right a little. I fell about 15-20ft up, got right back up & rode down and got back on as the operator showed me the correct way. Never been on one because I normally go to mountain creek(I live in NJ) Haha all I can say is I wish I watched this video before hand.

    I had never managed to reach the end of a t-bar until this year (my fifth time), when I followed the advice of a local instructor (from Serre Chevalier): Just hold on with your front hand and let the T-Bar carry you. Holding the bar with both hands seems to be the most common mistake beginners make.

  • @deycha1
    @deycha1 6 років тому +27

    this was hard AF to learn, i'm a beginner as well, though i managed to do it this weeked on a very long and steep t-bar. IMHO the key thing is to stay really flat on your board, don't even try to turn by lifting toe/heel edge. If you feel like you're getting off balance just try moving the pressure between the toe/heel edge BUT VERY SLIGHTLY, small controlled movements here are the key thing here.

    first time I ever rode a t-bar,, the wind had blown the snow off of the layer of ice underneath in one 20 foot long spot. long story short, I ended up holding on while penguin sliding. I eventually was able to pull myself up before the top. so my tip would be if its your first time, make sure 1. the conditions are favorable, and 2. the mountain you are at takes good care of trails and lifts.

    Is it safe to go up the tbar having one leg not attached to it ? Just like you have in this video. I had a very serious accident going up the tbar and ending up almost dying and hitting the post of the tbar. You can't control the snowboard properly once you fall down from the bar. You just slide down if you have one leg just hanging in the middle.
    After my accident snowboard instructors were all discussing what happened.. and said that I should have had both feet inside attached properly to the snowboard.

      Steven Van den Bremt Last winter we had a really bad snow situation in Finland. That's why we had a really narrow T-bar tracks which one time cause me and my friend fall from it right to trench. Luckily we both had only front food strapped because I'm telling you it would have been really nasty if both feet would have been strapped (well I actually experienced that too long time ago - not funny) So I would also say that it's safety cause to have your back foot unstrapped. If you fall then it will be easier to get rid of T-bar :)

    Can you ride the T bar on a snowboard in a pair? Either snowboars-snowboard or snowboard-ski? I got shit from the lift operator for always going alone on the T-bar since it's made for two people, but I honestly can't imagine riding it in a pair. I don't exactly go straight like the skiers do, I follow the terrain. I just can't imagine riding it with another person. And I also have no idea how we'd get off the lift. But I don't want to get shit again next time I go.

She's tried the t-bar a couple of times by herself, but she is so light (only 33lbs) that it pulls her too fast and she can't keep her balance. And going up with you or any other adult who has ski? My father used to do it with me so, that he put me in front of him when I started. And I did it the same way so many times with other children and my daughter, when she started with skiing. Yes, we were both skiing always and when it came to any problems with balance (bad terrain) it's always just up to you, so you have to be quite strong to hold the child and manage the situation, but maybe something like this could be a way how to do it with small snowboarder as well. I started snowboarding last year and still collect my courage to try these lifts, the only one I'm able to go up the hill is a chair lift :-)

    Every single lift is made for skis. It’s really hard for us snowboarders. The toe lift, chair lift, and t-bar is really hard when you have a snowboard

    so i'm assuming if u fall while on a tbar, move out of the way and just ride back down?

  • @zygi22

    First time riding the t-bar was so exhausting, that by the time I got to the top of the hill, I barely had any energy left to ride back down. LOL

    Great video! thank you.
    I sometimes struggle with riding one got out of the bindings. I think it is because I need more stomp pads on my board. Any tips for learning one foot riding?

    Do you recommend wrist guards? I've heard mixed things about them .Also, do you have any tips when riding with one foot in and skating? When i try and do it my board sometimes slips out from under me. Also i have trouble doing heel and toe edge one footed because board starts going down hill and gets out of control. Any tips? Thanks

    • @cinderg1ock
      @cinderg1ock 9 років тому

      I would recommend wrist guards if you tend to fall a lot. I fractured my wrist before, and wore wrist guards afterwards so I wouldn't hurt it again. If you feel that you fall forward a lot, or just fall a lot in general, then you might want to check them out. Then again, you never know when you're going to fall. I haven't heard any negative things about wrist guards in the past, so I think, "What's the harm?"

    Where i go snowboarding, when u ask a teacher to teach you how to use the tbar they take the tbar with you to get your board straight. In my case it wasnt a mistake to take the tbar with someone else

    Hi whenever I ride one the inside of my thigh really hurts after a while because of the lift pressing against it so I was wondering if there was any way to avoid this?

    • @k4ffein
      @k4ffein 9 років тому

      you can try putting the bar behind your back leg instead of between your legs, some people prefer it that way (this is mentioned in the video btw ;-) )

    I rode one up at Whistler and fell twice. Then on the third attempt I fell again but I just said fuck it and held on all the way to the top. It dragged me to the top and I felt tired but it was worth it. Seriously though these things suck.

    Tips for riding the t bar. If u don’t suck on a snowboard u will be successful. And can do lots of tricks on the bar as long as u don’t get caught

    I have a size 11 foot. Does that mean I need to get a wide board?

    • @SnowboardProCamp
      @SnowboardProCamp  10 років тому +3

      John Bennet no, you should be good with a regular width board. Check the width though because some boards can still be more narrow than others.

    The last time I rode, I didn't put it between my legs and just hold onto them with my hand. With the slope became steeper, I lost grip and had to let go.

    Where I snow board I thought there was a t bar but one of the was literally just a rope and the other had little handles on a rope so I do t know if that would be easier or harder but now I don't have to worry BC I'm on the mountain now and not the bunny hill

    Hello SnowboardProCamp
    Imagine a t-bar which is have different slope on its path. When slope degree start to become high its slows slows slows and t-bars pulls me like rocket therefore i am generally falling. Do you have any suggestion for this problem?

    • @4nd3rzzon
      @4nd3rzzon 8 років тому

      one thing you can do is pull the T bar against your body that way it will drag you more and you will be more prepared

  • @mingsong

    I always have the problem that the T-Bar pushes me around and I won't go straight. I don't fall because of it or anything, but it is really unconfortable.
