Because you work with it while wet. This wasn't a great video about it as no-one sands paper. But they make sanding spackled wall repair a dream! Highly recommended for that job.

Since it is a sponge... are you suppose to wet it first?
I wet the sanding sponge for smoothing out a spackled portion of drywall. It works like a DREAM!!
(Make sure you rinse it often.)
