- So now you know that the 3 cueing strategies are not the way to go. Bye-bye!
And you're getting pretty good at teaching kids the strategy of blending sounds consecutively, instead.
But did you know that researchers have identified a 2nd decoding strategy - beyond blending? It's called Set for Variability, and early evidence shows:
-That it is a skill that good readers have;
-It is strongly related to reading achievement; and
-We can probably teach students to develop it.
Learning this is what changed reading into something enjoyable for my son. He used to approach reading as a test of remembering the rules correctly. This gave him freedom to just try a different sound which alleviated a lot of anxiety for him. Thank you for this webinar!
This was great. I have read about “set for variability” before, but the way she explained it here actually made sense!
Thanks for sharing this recording!
Thank you!
I am just now (March 14, 24) findig this training. You mentioned a 2 part writing training in February. Is there a way to access a recording of that, or is there another one coming up? Evaluating writing is something I really need to learn.
