It is very clever! Though I'd wager that he had help from someone with expertise in riddles and scavenger hunts such as this. They are as hard to create as they are to solve.
For everyone who wasn't involved in this: unfortunately for us seekers, it was a bit of a disappointing situation. The final clue that actually gives you the fax number wasn't available at all until the day it was finally solved. Max didn't drag the hunt out for months by making a really smart/hard clue - he dragged it out by simply not releasing the necessary clue until days after the website was even found (and no one found the website until the Point Fun clue which was months into the hunt). It was fun in general to be part of, but frustrating to have spent so long working on something (under the impression that "everything we needed to solve the hunt was right there in the song") only to not get the clues until the very end. The one silver lining was the awesome Discord community and the fact that it was someone from that community who actually worked hard, all the way through, and won.
Ah, if that’s the case, I understand your frustration. I guess Max wanted it to be more accessible to everyone? Buried in the UK brings the scope down. Involving everyone ment he needed to gate the progress. I think next time he just needs to make it really long. Put in some branches and dead ends. Bring locality back, but delegate and distribute it. Hide each number of a code in a different clue. Etc etc. Make a website that has an unforgiving hard tiny game that spits out a temporary key. It’s hard to contest the power of a Discord board with well educated people looking for gold.
This treasure hunt was awesome, a bit confunsing but awesome overall. I joined in on the hunt and got most of the clues such as the spoonerism and swapping around words and letters, I just couldnt get to the website by myself. Once the website was discovered I tried to decode and break down the whole thing but it turns out I was just looking into it WAY too much. I congratulate the guy who found it though, excellent work!
God, I remember the discord server the first day after you posted this video. Pretty sure we thought that it was in a jewellery shop somewhere in Italy. I’m almost certain someone knew someone that lived in Italy and actually got them to go there lol. Hats off to the winner anyway, I’ve been dying to find out who won for months so great job on the video Max!
I'm so sad I missed the final hint of "point fun". it would've been such a blast to go through the website. but even the parts of the hunt that I was a part of were super fun. my theory was contacting arthur mosh, because the keeper of the secret is not close to max, so instead of fax I made it into fin since min is the opposite of max, and arthur mosh was working for a fintech company at one point in quite a high position. There was a bunch of other confirmed I found for my theory but I don't remember all of em from the top of my head. I never followed that lead but I was convinced that was it since nobody ever brought that specific person up in any of the treasure hunt discords

I stopped trying because I thought it was a Tiktok video challenge, not that I would ever had worked this out in a million years. How do people get this good at puzzles?!
I'm glad to tell you that in China ,in BiliBili,People come up with a lot of "good ideas" such as match the notes of music to the numbers represented by the first letters of the word to compose an IP address or try to use this Morse code representing this letters to reassemble a latitude and longitude coordinate🤣I never thought the answer would be so intuitive and not as professional as my friends in China thought😂
Wow! When he mentioned the Song Lady's State being Queensland I thought, "yeah, but we have 2 states named after Queen Victoria..." so I went to the website explanation to see if there was something to differentiate for sure, and it said: "Gold Coast" is where you might expect a goldfish (or gold fosh!) to swim, "glide" is a confirmer ("glide" and "coast" mean the same thing) I AM FROM THERE! Lol literally the last place I thought the Gold Coast would pop up online.
This is exactly how I expected it to go. Completely "simple" when pointed out, all the clues make sense. You would totally believe you are in the right direction, up to the finally. Congrats to the Winner, Thanks to Max for the challenge.
Usually when you hear how a puzzle is solved you go "Ahhh, it's obvious!". Not with this. Considering how many additional clues he had to give I consider this to be a bit of a disapointment. Good job anyways and thanks for the hunt, but I think this was created by coming up with an idea and then by working backwards to create the puzzle from that idea. The problem is that you get tunnel vision and can't see how others see the information. If someone didn't take part in the hunt the explanation might sound obvious, but it really wasn't. There are a million just as valid interpretations and a lot of the song didn't mean anything for the result. Also the "confirmers" in the song sound really far fetched if you don't know they're correct. For example a far more reasonable interpretation would've been "neighbour on the bus, or a dear old queen" => "person next to the bassist of the band Queen". And the "dance in a crazy way, use a squeaky voice" => chicken dance, the sound of a tweet => tweet at the person on twitter. And no-one did actually solve it. People just threw shit at the wall on the Discord until something stuck. I'm pretty sure the website wasn't found based on the video, but just based on the additional giveaway clues. Then people just threw shit at the website until something stuck. Because even I saw the website before this was solved. It was on Discord in the resources section. 😂 So it wasn't "solved". It was bruteforced with manpower. The main thing I take issue with is that it was clearly said outside and in the video, that you only need the video to solve it (that all parts necessary to contact the right person and how are in the video) but they weren't. By that it was very strongly implied that you don't need to access a source outside the video. Therefore people were looking for the PERSON and METHOD in the video. They weren't looking for a source outside the video.
Your comment might have limited time here as I've seen negative comments disappear. But I agree with everything you said; and on top of that, the cypher for the fax code wasnt announced just added randomly, which means people didnt know to check back on the site and many likely slept through the release of that info and the solve. Another late addition was the change made to the site saying to make sure to include contact details (not at all safe to be sending to random fax numbers as nothing was "for sure" here, as the MF clue could have been alphanumeric etc.). All that makes it sound very much like someone had faxed the correct phrase to the correct number and they only then realised that they didnt include instructions to contact back on the guesses sent. No shade to the winner but hugely poor organisation.

You’re mental 😂 It takes a hell of a brain to devise such a hunt, good work! 👏🏼
Absolutely bonkers innit.
