    That's really neat. Maybe you could use even brighter lights to increase the depth.

      Thanks! A two way mirror instead of the tinted glass would really make it awesome. But have no idea where to get them from for cheap!

      TheFishCostume I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if brighter LED's would have a deeper illusion effect, even with the tint film. Hmmm...

      ***** Glaziers, and builders merchants can suppliy, mirrored panes or mirrored film that go on buildings. not cheap but you can get also toughened ones that would allow you to make a bigger one (large enough to stand on especially with a chaser cct running bar formed LEDs joining mirror to semi silvered)

    Interesting how this stuff is just catching on lately. Back in 1977 a buddy of mine wanted something interesting to light his tricked-out van with on the inside. I'd been playing with 2-way mirrors and suggested building a "time tunnel" mirror to mount on the wall. It was 18" high and 30" wide.
    Regarding the lighting, this was before things like affordable sequencer lighting devices, so I created a small remote-sized control with 3 micro-switches, each one controlling every third light in the series going around the interior. So, by rocking his thumb across the 3 closely-spaced switches, he could do a "chase-lights" thing, or alternate the lights, or make them run in any order and timing he wanted. And because we left about 3½" or 4" between the back and front mirrors, the "repeat-distance" was extended, and the thing looked about 10 feet deep!
    He had that thing for about 5 or 6 years. It was the highlight showpiece whenever he was showing off his van. Some people even went around the outside of the van thinking there was a "tunnel" extending out the outer side of the van wall it was hung on, and were amazed when there was no 10' tube actually sticking out.
    (Some folks are SO easy to spoof!)

    • @jellyg.8961
      @jellyg.8961 9 років тому +8

      +David Secrest It will look with more depth if instead of dark window tint you use mirror-like (some call it silver) film. Since the film acts as a mirror the more reflective it is the more light bounces back and forth inside, so more "depth" illusion is attained. The best setup will be to actually use a one-way mirror as the front glass (the mirror part facing the inside of the box), with two mirrors facing each other the illusion will have more depth. Problem is those mirrors are expensive.

    cool video man - just a tip for next time, if you wet up a window or similar surface and put the film on face first, when you peel the backing off the water will create a vacuum-like effect that will stick it to the window as you peel the backing off - makes that part of the job way less tricky, handy tip learned from doing miles and miles of window frosting

      How do you think Nostradamus on to the Future? He coded the inside of his scrying cup with a high dielectric paint. so much technology is coming out in the world that we haven't had for thousands of years we thought this information was lost forever but it seems to be coming out of nowhere by 2020 we're going to be jumping in and out of dimensions. You want to learn the secret about the magic of the Egyptians. The answer is longitudinal interferometry. That's heat containment at a distance. Einstein called it action. You need to learn the wave mechanics of light sound matter and SpaceTime.

      Just in case he doesn't get back to you, I think they're sold at some craft / DIY stores. And, if you have the means, they're only like 7 bucks a roll on Amazon (US). And like 8-13 pounds on the UK site (if that's even where you're from, idk).

    • @shivtekoriginal

      Shiv Tek The same vendors just aren't available in most cases, because they're in different countries. The one that I saw for 7 bucks was listed for 21, so it's a steal. If you're patient and keep shopping around, you might be able to find a deal like that on your side of the planet too. :D

    H E L P!!!
    I jumped into the mirror thing; I've been falling at 1000 km's per hour for *2 MONTHS NOW* .
    I recently landed on an empty random mini-platform attached to the wall. Should I jump down from this platform? If I do, I don't know if there'll be another platform on the way down ever again... I mean, technically I have no choice, I cannot climb up as there are no climbing steps anywhere on these walls, plus since I travelled so far down, there is no way I am able to climb up again. So should I wait or fall even further? And also, I don't know what will happen if I'll continue falling... H E L P!!! I also have no equipment with me or anything (apart from my phone from which I am sending you the text)... :''(

    • @jinig4833
      @jinig4833 7 років тому +2

      Also don't ask how I survived the high-speed land on the platform... the physics don't work the same way in this place as they do in our reality... I am stuck deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep in the tunnel void... I don't know what will happen if I jump down from the platform...

      CobaltWarriors lmgtfy is not a 'virus link', whatever that is. I suggest that the 7 years you spent 'identifying viruses' was 7 years wasted, if that's what you got from that website. It's a widely used and legitimate website. My 45+ years of computers and comms tells me so.

    You can cut these strips in groups of three; so those last three could be cut off as well, leaving just one outside the frame. At 4:55 you can clearly see the cut zone between the first and second LEDs from the frame edge. If you wanted to get rid of that one as well, it could be unsoldered and replaced with a resistor; an off the top of my head calculation would make it about 200 ohms (4v/20ma), but the LEDs don't run at exactly 4v. There is a voltage dropping resistor for every three LEDs, to bring their voltage down to around 3.4-3.6v each; so 180 ohm would probably be better and may be easier to find.

    EXCELLENT! The 1st time I ever saw one of these is on "Star Trek; The Motion Picture" (1979) - in Spock's quarters. Thats when malls and other stores started selling them like hotcakes! Only back then - I cant swear to it - but I dont think it was LEDs but small bulbs perhaps? At any rate - those new fangled LED strips are a godsend! Thanks for making this DIY video, mate! I never owned one before - looks like I may just make myself one

    when you use an LED strip you can trim off any excess LED's at the junction point from one LED to the next. It will look like 2 parallel lines going from one to the next. Just cut between them and you will have the perfect length you need. if you don't want to have a cord hanging off of the mirror you can also use rechargeable batteries in a caddy mounted to the back of the mirror. Just match up the required voltage of the led strip to the voltage produced by the batteries used and bypass the inverter with a direct dc connection and you're done. If you are unsure of how many batteries to use or what size just remember Ohm's law for voltage where voltage in a DC series circuit is additive and current is constant.
