Israeli forces detained and beat him in Arroub refugee camp, near the occupied West Bank city of Hebron, on November 29. An Israeli soldier hit Mohammad in the face with a rifle stock, breaking his jaw.

After two interrogations without a family member or lawyer present, Israeli forces transferred Mohammad to a hospital where doctors operated on his jaw. His family shared this photo with us, where you can see Mohammad's hands and feet are shackled.

The day after his surgery, Israeli forces took Mohammad to Megiddo prison.
My colleague Iyad works tirelessly defending children like Mohammad ensnared in Israel's military detention system. Iyad is currently working to get Mohammad released on bail-an initial bail request was granted, but the Israeli military prosecutor appealed the decision. We will know more soon, but now, Mohammad sits in his cell, in pain from his injuries inflicted by Israeli soldiers.
Today is Human Rights Day, recognized by millions around the world, but such observances mean little for Palestinian children like Mohammad.
Physical violence and ill-treatment of Palestinian child detainees, as evidenced by Mohammad's broken jaw, is widespread, systematic, and institutionalized in the Israeli military detention system. This system has no interest in justice or human rights.
