I have a 2003 LP Classic. I absolutely love it!! Kinda beat up, just a little. I put Suhr Doug Aldrich pickups in it. Looks great, sounds awesome! Great touch you have! Excellent job and great video!
I just bought the latest Gibson Les Paul Studio. The 4th Gibson Les Paul I have owned and is literally best one yet. QC is excellent. 7.7 lbs and i Love it.
I’ve got a few and owned a few more. Currently my favorite is actually my least expensive. My 2020 tribute in honey burst. I rolled the fretboard edges, put a Humcutters Nuevo 90 in the neck, and replaced the PC board with Bournes smooth taper audio pots. The rounder profile neck is so comfy, especially after rolling the edges. The weight is a dream. The satin nitro finish couldn’t be more comfortable. It’s my definitive GO TO! Love that guitar. Now I just need to find another with the p-90’s.
Greetings! My prized Gibson is a 1998 DC Standard Plus in Black Pepper. Bone stock, weighs maybe 7 pounds, and covers all the bases I need. Awaiting a 2014 Standard premium quilt in Ocean Water, we'll see if it tops the DC. Likely going to remove the Etune system for some locking Grovers (don't want to snap the headstock like Tyler from Music is Win) but other than that I'll keep it stock. Hit or miss with Gibson's, I agree. Great video man!
I’ve got a 2008 Standard, 57 classic pickups, great neck profile in Desert burst. Upgraded the tone caps but otherwise as per factory. Owned others but just can’t find another like it!😊
Your Northern Lights pups sounds awesome and your 2008 Classic looks great, glad you found a Gibson neck profile you like, it's definitely like rolling dice. These days with arthritic hands I prefer the thinner narrower necks, and I lucked out to find a reissue SG with that profile.
The band I guitar teched for the guitar player had a 1960 classic from 1994 or 1995 and it was gigged hard on the road for many years. I installed an RSguitarworks pot upgrade kit and paper in oil caps then did the 50s wiring mod. Neck pick up was a Duncan paf and the bridge was a Duncan distortion. He played thru a Mesa Boogie Mark II C+ or a Marshall 2204.nd Marshall 4X12 cab. That guitar is still a monster in the tone dept.
I have a 2005 Honey Burst Classic with lime green inlays (which I LOVE!). It has the "1960" pickguard, plus the optional one without the date on it. I consider this one to be my "prize" in my collection.
I have a 2008 Gibson Les Paul Standard + in Honeyburst, with PAF Burstbuckers. The neck and top are amazing. Bought new in 2009 for $2100. It's definitely a good day at Gibson guitar. 2008's are full weight relief. Mine weighs 7lb, 12oz.
I have 4 LP’s: a Classic, a Tribute, a new Studio, and a new 70’s Deluxe that I converted to P90’s, and I absolutely love them all. However, I had the PCB replaced with 50’s wiring in the Tribute with some Mojotone 59 Clones and it sounds great. Not that the 490’s weren’t good. I am definitely interested in getting one of the new Studio Session LP’s because of the ebony fretboard and 57 Classics, along with the modern neck carve. I also have a Heritage H-150 which is nice, and recently got my third Eastman SB59, which are absolutely fantastic guitars. I guess you can tell what my favorite style of guitar is, huh? 😂 I don’t think there’s such a thing as a bad Les Paul, but certainly some are better than others. The best one is the one that you like the most and inspires you to play your best!
I have 11 Gibson Les Paul's. 7 of them are Classic's. My Gold Top 2001 Classic is a slim C with just the right amount of shoulder. My early 1990's are Slim C, but super thin with very little shoulder. The 2001 looks exactly like yours, except for mine has the "1960" pick guard. Only 2 of the 7 have the original pickups. One 490/500 set, one P-90 set.
🤓Hey Phil, PIO caps, a .033uf for the bridge and a .015uf for the neck '50s wired with Mojo Tone low winds is how I have my '03 set up. That different cap will lessen that big jump between pickups. 🥳...
Love your video's, I'm looking at guitar advertised as a 2006 Gibson Les Paul Heritage that's for sale. What's the diff between a Heritage and a Classic?
I have a 2007 Les Paul Classic in black and it has all the things you said. Probably it's a 2005 through 2008 thing. Mine had 500T/496R but I replaced them with Dimarzio Super Distortion/PAF 36th Anniversary for more classic rock/'80s hard rock sounds. You must have a higher power pickup in the bridge to compensate for the unevenness from switching from neck to bridge and the neck pickup can become boomy if you're not careful with the height.
I have a 07 Gibson Les Paul Studio Vintage Mahogany. It’s perfect! It must be a Wednesday guitar because Gibson was on the money with it. Usually people diss 07 Gibsons. My Studio beats my former 72 Custom and all the Standards I ever played.
I just got a mint 2018 Classic gold top with p90s. the tone is awesome the neck is awesome but the fret work was lacking and its going to get pleked in the next week so the action can get where it needs to be. Im a classic fan now. I have small hands and its the only P90 gold top I could find with slim taper neck.
I played a Classic and a 60's at my local shop. They felt like the same guitar. Except for the fact I liked the pickups in the 60s better. So, I bought the 60s. Then i gutted it and put in a set of Pearly Gates!!!
I like the 1990's early 2000's Gibson Les Paul Classic especially the ones that have ABR-1 Tune-o-Matic bridges. Even though those 1990's early 2000 weight like a freakin' boat anchor they were pretty awesome.
Every year is great with no exception for a Tokai Les Paul clone. Better than the original and you don’t have to replace the pick ups to make it the guitar of the week!
Everyone has an opinion after owning several over the years I found I prefer the natural Gibson's more than the finished ones I know you can sand the neck down but the sg special Les Paul special and the Les Paul jr are my favorites
I’ve purchased and tried so many Gibson LP’s as well as SG’s and I can say without any uncertainty that the necks will indeed vary from model to model. In most cases it’s pretty slight but they are there. So if you’re really meticulous about the profile just keep trying them out until you find the right one. Sometimes it’s not the year either since they vary obviously.
I have a 1994 Classic Premium Plus in rare Cinnamon Burst. I put Seth Lover pickups, 50’s wiring & Sperzel locking tuners on it. Just didn’t like the hot ceramics that it came with.
Always a good habit to check pickup height on new guitars. My own personal preference is having my pickups low. Almost flush with the mounting ring. Little bit higher on the treble side due to size of strings 😊
You're wrong about the original pickups: Les Paul Classic 2008 has 490R and 500T pickups and they're the hottest humbuckers put in by Gibson on any LP in order to have the maximum output.....I wouldn't change those with anything else tho. 😅
You'd be hard pressed to say LPs from 2019 to present arent really very good. There is good and bad within every year. Just come clickbait. Actually I dont even think Phil says 2008 was the last good year but I may have missed it.
If I ever buy a Gibson LP, it would be one like yours. But I have to recognize it will only be to brag about it. I have an old single-cut ESP guitar, which I love.
Every year has great/good/mid/meh/bad Les Pauls. Nature of the beast
Love it. Gold Top has always been my favorite. Sounds great.

I have that 2005 Goldtop, that neck is smooth. Just a great playing and sounding axe!
Greetings! My prized Gibson is a 1998 DC Standard Plus in Black Pepper. Bone stock, weighs maybe 7 pounds, and covers all the bases I need. The NUX Atlantic is truly a man's pedal.

Those pickups sound fantastic.
I have a 2017 Traditional and love it. It's an excellent guitar.
The band I guitar teched for the guitar player had a 1960 classic from 1994 or 1995 and it was gigged hard on the road for many years.

Phil is an excellent guitarist. He needs to put out an album.

Great tone there Phil!
I’m loving the neck on my 2024 60s Standard. Now Phil has me thinking about a 2008 Classic.🤣
If you’re hunting classics go for early 90s. Other than that, nothing wrong with the Gibsons post 2019. Just try before you buy.
My 22 classic has the c shaped neck. It's in-between a 50s and 60s neck.
Sounds like he’s describing my ‘20 Standard.
Can't beat a Les Paul for Christmas 🎄🎁
I love the classic LPs. I've got a '92 burst that is my main guitar.
Where can I get a set of those pickups?
🤓Hey Phil, PIO caps, a .033uf for the bridge and a .015uf for the neck '50s wired with Mojo Tone low winds is how I have my '03 set up. That different cap will lessen that big jump between pickups. 🥳...
Love my 2020 Classic!
Love your video's, I'm looking at guitar advertised as a 2006 Gibson Les Paul Heritage that's for sale. What's the diff between a Heritage and a Classic?
What's the story on the multi colored Strat over your shoulder. I don't remember seeing that guitar before.
thats a steve vai jem universe ibanez...I think.

The anniversary paf’s are my favorite humbuckers
Beautiful lp

My LP is a 2010, I think, and it is fan-fkn-TAS-tic!!!!!
I bet it is! Video title is clickbait, just like all other UA-camrs' titles.
How do these necks compare to the PRS pattern regular? For me, that is the perfect neck carve.
I just got a mint 2018 Classic gold top with p90s. the tone is awesome the neck is awesome but the fret work was lacking and its going to get pleked in the next week so the action can get where it needs to be. Who is Steve Morris?
Sounds good
Every year is great with no exception for a Tokai Les Paul clone. Better than the original and you don’t have to replace the pick ups to make it the guitar of the week!
Why not try some Lindey Fralin P90s in it?
Everyone has an opinion after owning several over the years I found I prefer the natural Gibson's more than the finished ones I know you can sand the neck down but the sg special Les Paul special and the Les Paul jr are my favorites
that neck looks extremely wide is that an optical illusion ?
Post 2019 are better for custom shops from my experience.
What’s the difference between???

I always wonder whether the bridge pickup on a Les Paul is too close to the bridge. Maybe that's why it can sound too thin or brittle.
Always a good habit to check pickup height on new guitars. My own personal preference is having my pickups low. Almost flush with the mounting ring. Little bit higher on the treble side due to size of strings 😊
My 2000 is awesome

This was used and had 57 classics
Would not hsve thstn probelm of dropped min humbucker bridge or get gold top les 2 mini humuckers
You'd be hard pressed to say LPs from 2019 to present arent really very good. There is good and bad within every year. Just come clickbait. Actually I dont even think Phil says 2008 was the last good year but I may have missed it.
I just got a brand new 50s Standard. Most amaxing guitar I've ever played-so much fun and spunds amazing.
Blimey.
If I ever buy a Gibson LP, it would be one like yours.
But I have to recognize it will only be to brag about it. I have an old single-cut ESP guitar, which I love.
No way on the classic.
That's your best sounding guitar yet.
Through an Engl and all the other excellent gear, yeah, it sounds great. How couldn't it? And Steve's last name is Morse, not Morris.
