I don't get the people urging you to play faster and more optimized. Your commentary and play style are very enjoyable and quite fitting to the relaxed speed of this game. It is something I really appreciate after a busy and often hectic day.
yeah. Like no offense but if what people want is perfect optimization and speed running Watch another youtuber. That's not Reto's style and His style is why I watch this channel
Please, continue this series! Regarding the backtracking, I think a complete ability to backtrack would defeat the purpose of going back to the same section multiple times. Also, a big part of the roguelike genre is that one can't have everything, one has to choose carefully what to do. When one door opens, another one closes.
Y'know, smthn I've noticed before but still love: all our goblins look completely different now, while the enemies are all small spider, big spider, small man, big man. Also 10:40 he's just standing there. Menacingly!
The fight is just so good. The "too slow" comments probably don't understand that turn-based fights are supposed to be tactical. Like, think first, speed later
@Retromation from devs regarding getting surprise "That's a good question. To have a chance at surprising them, you must collide with the enemy while it is facing away from the goblin's path. The surprise is based on chances; if the enemies are surprised at the start of the battle, otherwise, the battle begins normally. Additionally, there's a certain shrine bonus and trait available in-game to support this feature. It's best to see this in-game itself and see for yourself how these would synergize with your strategies." basically if you start the battle while the enemy is facing away from you then you get a % chance for surprise. The % can be modified by shrines and other factors. They did not give me base % information perhaps because they want us to experiment without knowing the full details. I do know that when the animation was still in the game then the % was 50 for surprise if you snuck up on them while they were facing away so something in that ballpark is likely though they very well may have changed it in their balance testing and could be significantly different now.
@@BetaJim22 There definitely are some changes I'd like to see. That initiative order and the targeting is misleading as all hell, since it doesn't factor in someones effective speed
@@westarrr agreed. The game is far from perfect and could use a lot of polish specifically with clear documentation of mechanics and controls in game etc. I hope there'll be one in game at release but won't know until that happens
That first slime fight has "Phantom Limb" energy: "what are you doing over there?" "I'm wringing my hands! ...menacingly." well stop it. No one can see that."
Actually, bringing one stinker of a goblin as a sacrifice might be good bc all the other goblins get a 50% damage buff when the sacrifice dies, so it could be really good vs bosses at the end. Babysit them until the boss then let them die intentionally and kablam you get a mega round of insane damage and some soul points.
The most likely way the stats inheritance works is like this: e.g. stats peon 1 are 3-4-5 and peon 2 are 3-6-6. Combining them would give the possible options of each stat getting a 50-50 chance from either parent. So in this case, the first stat must be 3, as both parents have that at 3. Second stat could be 4 or 5, and the third stat could be 5 or 6. So, basically you want to try to get for 6-6-6 peons with 4 good genes. Choose wisely and may the odds be in your favour!
I am late to the series and new to your channel... After devouring Inscription, this has been my next favorite. Fantastic game and I your videos are so cozy!
In the Discord it's been stated that for breeding both dominant and recessive genes are tracked. Stats, appearance, and traits of the goblin parents DO matter and to a lesser extent the grandparent's stats, appearance, and traits could as well etc. The possible outcomes displayed when you breed them reflect that. It's possible that the feature changed some since specific remarks on dominant and recessive genes were mentioned but it appears to me that it still works that way.
In regards to breeding: You can see how the stats matter on the sample spawns, like genetics, it usually takes 1-2 of the parents Body/Mind/Spirit and then combines that with the the other parents inherited Stat. So usually i would prioritize breeding Goblins with high total Stat counts (above 12, then increasing the more you breed). As you can't really level Goblins outside of equipment, that's probably how the game let's you scale into the late game. So i'd try to get a variety of good Quirks into my pool (retired Goblins can breed too), and then just breed for Stat lines that synergize with those Quirks.
On your longer battles, consider that turn order and seconds are not the same. A battle can take 15-20 seconds, so do vs and armour up skills will help you over ok get battles. Since you intercept, armour up should really help Enjoying this series
Did not expect the trap to work this way. I was more so leaning towards it being like a "dummy" in the player's queue order that would tank an atk & dmg the attacker. This or a stationary trap in the Enemy's queue order that would activate once an enemy passed it by. Maybe it's designed this way to activate through bleed ticks? Though unsure if bleed ticks count as attacks.
On ep 1 you snuck when the narrator mentioned it & there was a sleeping enemy in view (@24:55). It doesn't appear to be a class specific skill (since you only had peons and raiders) so I'm also curious how it's activated. Would be silly if you require a run-specific bonus that allows it or if they went through the trouble of animating it just to humor that narration. I also don't imagine you pressed any particular key to activate it since you weren't even told to do so, it just happened.
Maybe if the enemy is walking with their back turned to the goblins instead of just in place you get a increased chance of a surprise attack? Or maybe its just random 🤷♂️
My theory with the percentage of completion is that it changes as you go back to the zone so the more times you revisited you get closer to 100% completion
I'm pretty sure that in the tutorial they tell you that you can only go back if you've picked a path (up or down) They don't do a great job of explaining that though, and the narrator saying "they can no longer turn back" doesn't help
I'm thinking the ambush mechanic probably works during the short timespan when the enemy turns around, and if you take too long running up to it it doesn't work
Observational ambush theory. There's a window of opportunity during and after the enemy moves away that triggers an ambush. If they've been still for to long it may not occur even if they are facing away. The faster longer distance runners (wolves) seem to have a less frequency and slower shorter moving enemies (zombies) have more frequency of triggers.
When you tried back tracking, an enemy was still on the screen. i doubt theyd let you run away from a fight. see if you can turn back after they are beaten
Have you tried taking a look at the other spells for the mages? Sticky hoodoo is kinda just taking up a slot since its not very useful in most situations.
So breeding doesn't seem to combine/average out stats, it just seems like a chance to get the same stat as one of the parents, which I guess technically means the base cap is 6 for stats? Unless there are Goblins you can find with a base stat of 7+. I do feel like at least by equipment standards it takes seemingly forever before you get actually good weapons, the only time we've seen good weapons are temporary ones during a mission. I have to assume upgrading the shop eventually gives better items, maybe it's only at certain intervals, like maybe at Shop 4 you start seeing higher tier weapons.
When you finish a path can you backtrack to the begining and go down the other? I only ask as you attempted to go back before defeating the wolf and in most games it locks you in the area until you’ve beaten the enemy
I think the stats have a 50/50 chance of coming from either parent, ie if you breed a 2 and a 5, they either get a 2 or a 5 in that stat. Same for their traits
It is a bit hard to tell but I believe the traps only have the chance to go off when the enemy they are set on attacks. Edit: upon the second use I agree it is when you attack them.
How about a cleaning mission where you get rid of unwanted goblins? That way they won't take place in retirement and you farm souls. Furthermore you get to keep high stats goblins and fan favorite in bank.
Hey retro, just wanted to say that you should play in your own pace/style and dont pay any attention to those toxic remarks, if you try and please those backseaters you're just gonna have a bad time bcs they will always find something to nag about. Stay true to your playstile bcs that makes you you and keeps your community true...
I think the trap also depends on playstile, I don’t wanna criticise because you aren’t doing anything wrong but I think there are some people who enjoy playing long fights / drawing fights out so it works better for those players:)

I think they’re what’s called ‘the vocal minority’
I'm honestly waiting for one of the goblins to be named "Ball masher" at this point. If that happens you have to pick him no matter what
Balmangler is close 😂
paused my binge of SpellRogue to watch this when I noticed it dropped

You play the game like a normal person just enjoying the game! Thank you, love the pacing of this!!

If there's any changes from this version and release I honestly wouldn't even mind a 2nd run of the series a little after release!

Man I love this channel, you show off games that very few other channels check out. Keep up the good work!
I'm excited for this game to come out, and loving the series!! Thanks for bringing it up my attention!
This is the first time I have ever binged a series before it’s even released!
Really love the series, hope it can keep going for a bit
New ep just dropped
Just binged all the previous videos. This needs to be a long running series!
I could've sworn when the tutorial for breeding popup, it tells you that stats matters.
It did say smthn like pay attention to their mind, body, spirit. It didn't really say much else tho, nothing about traits idt.

Im enjoying the series. Hopefully the devs put in some of the QoL changes you've mentioned
So glad to see this series still going, loving the goblins, and the rng names are hilarious 🤣

I really liked the demo of this one, but I feel the most important system will be the ability to breed new goblins.

would it make sense to breed for stats first? i.e. a goblin with 6 3 6 and one with 3 6 3 to shoot for a max stat goblin
Keep the goblins coming!

About the backtracking: you cannot backtrack after a 'split' in the path. You can backtrack as far as just after the last split.

keep up the good fight, this game watching is making me happy ;3
you can see on the map, if there was small ❌back of you Goblin symbol that mean you can't go back. But if no ❌ that mean you can go back.
I think surprise has to do with seeing and line of sight. So if the opponent doesn’t see so it is surprised.
I think you get better wares in the campground shop if you upgrade the armory
