I know a lot of serious classical music fans look down on Liberace, but I don’t care. His recordings are a treasure and they have their own special, campy place in my heart. There is room enough in this world to fit Emil Gilels, Walter Gieseking, and Liberace together. If anything, his work with medleys such as this are an indication of how much people actually cared about classical music at all back then.
isnt it interesting how parents never change. compared to what went on only 10-20 years later this was already tame, not to mention what we have today. if your mom didnt like lee, i wonder what she thought of the beatles or elvis. she probably thought he is the great subverter himself. and every parent does that with their kids idols or beloved music. i guess it has to do with ones own aging process.
