Hello, you have my hair...lol. I too am someone who has had (and still do) have addictions. I am currently working on the Thrifting. I have cut down a lot and only go to one Store on one day of the week, not three or four store, three or four times a week...lol. I have so many, many beautiful things, but I don't want them anymore, I want to divest as much as possible. I love that you listen to your body and reflect upon your experiences, that's the way to thrive. I love the insights you have gained about the addictive nature of 'seeking' (what I call 'hunting and gathering'). All power to you in your journey.
Goodwill/ Thrift junkie here. Just moved to a home half the size of the house we were living in. Had to downsize my clothes and ended up taking 8 !! Big black lawn bags full of clothes to our local charity thrift store. I was stunned. Kind of grossed me out, tbh. Still have a bit more downsizing to do , but the progress feels SO GOOD! I feel so much lighter in so many ways.
@redotter4608 Thank you so much for sharing this experience! I am relieved that I am not the only one that gets that grossed out feeling when I evaluate my own consumption and that I am not alone in loving the feeling of lightening!
I find that instead of using shopping replace it with something else that offers the same thing but is healthy, I like to find things in nature like new plants (sometimes rocks even) to get grounded energy (even find places to get away and be still in nature) but it's fun when I find something I haven't seen before and I take it home and use it for an alter, craft, keepsake etc... cost me nothing and is healthy and can be used to look up and understand more about the nature that sustains us. The opposite to consuming is creating. So crafting and being creative I find helps me balance. Focus on what you do want more than what you don't want. Positive > negative to stick to something successfully. Replacing something that didn't work for me with a substitute/alternative solution works best for me.
@somename152 Thank you for this comment, I resonate so much with what you said. When it is the warm months and we can comfortably spend our days outside, my daughter and I are in the mountains building fairy houses for hours out of each week. The result is that I think of little else and I feel so whole! I love that you said creativity is the opposite of consumption! I always emphasize creativity and contributing beauty to the environment, to my clients recovering from addiction. For me, I recognize that when I am sewing, styling, and upcycling, I feel less pulled towards desire for a new acquisition.
Ooooh, i loved this video and appreciate you sharing! You are incredibly reflective, and similar in personality and mannerisms of expression as myself. :) My gut intuition when you mention seeking and anticipation is that there is a resistance yo presence and acceptance happening. It might help you to stop and mediatate/mindfully walk if the consumption/search for consumption is compulsive or anxiety inducing. Check in with your body and notice any tension or noteworthy sensations. What might be going on? Anyways, I haven't listened to the entire video yet, but want to express my own mirroring of you and affirmation of your validity in that I have experinced similar situations and tendencies which point to what may be similar "still healing" parts of myself. May you rest and be whole as you continue to uncover and discover truth, and may you seek nothing but instead already posses pure presence and joy in this moment. 🌸🧡
@zionnoel Thank you so much for such a kind and thoughtful comment. I can tell we are kindred spirits because your very sound and wise advice sounded like something that I would say to a client! Thank you for reminding me to practice what I preach❤️ blessings!
Your outfit was so cute today! Thank you for sharing your morning with us. I enjoyed hearing you share your experiences, many of which resonated with me. I struggle with media and UA-cam as well (sadly, many do.). I've noticed that it all cycles back to dopamine, and the craving to seek out that "high" even at the cost of your own time and control. I found that when I quit things like Social Media or UA-cam, I become more impulsive in other areas, and vice versa. Allow yourself to ebb and flow as long as you're moving forward. Wishing you best of luck on your journey - subscribed!
@kaitlinbarron6529 Thank you so much for your comment and for your wise advice! I relate so much to the experience of that part of myself that seeks, turning to the next thing when one thing is removed! So much that I think I will discuss this in a video soon. Thank you again❤️
It’s fun listening to you analyze these things. I’m curious if you know where your need to search comes from? And what are you feeling when you’re doing it or wanting to do it?
@wildeevolution thank you! Have you read "Dopamine Nation"? She does a brilliant job of breaking down the way a reward pattern becomes habituated in the brain. And for me there have been a lot of different behaviors and substances over the years that have become crutches, so I've worked repeatedly on the underlying feeling states and can basically sum it up as Existential anxiety. Something that is temporarily alleviated by pleasure, but sustainably alleviated only by spiritual and social connection.
New subscriber from the 🇬🇧 such a great chat ❤
