- The Brooklyn Nets had a very promising team with a trio of Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant & James Harden. They all excelled with the ball in their hands & complimented each other beautifully. Sean Marks, the general manager of the Nets, had assembled this super team after building a strong & exuberant culture full of promising young players all led by the tutelage of Kenny Atkinson.
But as soon as KD & Kyrie were signed to Brooklyn, clashing dynamics would soon show itself between the eccentric stars & the Nets brass. Joe Tsai & Kyrie Irving did not have a great relationship. It was said that Steve Nash was hired at the behest of the star players' request. Harden was traded to the Nets at the behest of the star players' request. But a combination of bad injury luck & drama-filled controversies would cloud the Nets super teams' hopes of winning a NBA title.
Soon after, the stars were traded to different teams. But the front office did a poor job of picking up the pieces of the mess they inherited. With a lackluster roster set to lose this year's lottery pick because of the Harden trade, the Brooklyn Nets' future is doomed to repeat itself like it did after the Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett & Jason Terry trade in 2013. No control of their destiny, with the hopes of repeating history all over again.

This isn't what happened at all. Harden freak injury, and Kyrie breaking his ankle getting his landing space taken by Giannis. Either of these don't happen and they win that series and likely the championship. It's not like the formula's they used to play basketball didn't result in won games.

Losing Jarett Allen was devastating for the team. They lost their defensive presence and depth in that trade. Harden then left them dry with no draft picks and the team collapsed
@vulcanraven9701 my thoughts exactly. JA is one of the best paint protectors in the league right now. They definitely dropped the ball when they chose satisfying KD and Kyrie over the teams needs.
Ben Simmons is the smartest player in the NBA. He literally has a super max contract and doesn’t have to work. Getting paid to not work. He’s the highest paid disability benefits in the country.

The Brooklyn Nets are the exact representation of what happens when you give up too much to win now. And, the fact that they did it twice and the same results are happening shows to me that they were better off in New Jersey anyway or they should have at least kept most of the 2018-19 roster. This entire franchise now feels so plastic and I don't think the franchise is going to recover from this for a long while.
the young squad they managed to scrape together is very very hopeful. like honestly league wide every team looks like they’ll be in good shape. even the Pistons, they just got off to a bad start and the attention shifted to them so everyone played harder against them to not be the ones to lose. i just feel like the future is bright for NBA basketball, opinions are subjective tho.
The Celtics are a juggernaut largely due to the Nets poor decision making.

You need chemistry and most importantly, consistency. When things get tough in the playoffs if you don’t have a group that trusts each other and is playing for each other, things will break down. It’s happened so many times now you’d think executives would finally get it.

Kyrie one of my favorite players. My favorite moment from him as a nets was stepping on the Celtics logo.
Following the Nets version of “The Process” from beginning to end I just kept thinking.. this is the biggest sh** show I’ve ever seen in sports.
I feel most bad for Kenny Atkinson in all this. Those stars fucked with his career for no reason. I think he's in a good spot now though. After a few years learning from kerr, he should get a good head coaching job again. I'd like him for the bucks or clippers

As a Nets fan it’s honestly heartbreaking how we fumbled so badly. When you have three stars like Harden KD and Kyrie you do everything you can to keep them but instead they let their egos get the better of them
Just imagine, you guys could have had Tatum and Brown. Although, I doubt Nets management would have been as slick as Danny Ainge when it comes to the draft. Danny did miss on one of the Brooklyn picks but I suspect Brooklyn management would have missed on all of them.
The key word you said though was could. Could is not would. Fans treat it like that though. Every gm drafts good talent, but that doesn’t mean every gm can and will draft legendary talent whether picking high or low. Some organizations have a knack for history repeating itself when it comes to drafting top scoring talent. While some luck is involved, it’s also about how an organization infrastructure is built from the depth of developmental team to how badly the organization as a whole will go to any length to make certain it happens
The problem is the Nets are not willing to sell their kidney to do what it takes to be a 50+ win team. That’s why the Nets don’t have the capability to develop guys to develop into elite status that can simply take over a game completely. They have to buy their players and rely exclusively on talent to win over 50 games. Now you will say “most teams are like that” which to me is a very weak argument because almost every team in the league has won over 50 games more than the Nets. That’s a reflection of much more than simply just a bad gm or owner.
When it comes to player development, the organization is never going to do whatever it takes to be better than a 45-49 win team and history mostly proves it outside of 1 season.
The team gave those 3 way too much pull and leniency.
