  • Most kids walked out of the arena at the National Western Stock Show Monday night with a mouthful of dirt and a handful of wool.
    Not 7-year-old Quinn Adams.
Her sheep just strolled out into the arena without a hurry in the world, drawing laughs and cheers from the audience.
“Too many kids are at home with screens in their face,” said Quinn Adams' dad, Kurtis Adams, of Frederick.
To prepare for the ride, mom pretended to be a bucking sheep in the front room.
    All the practice paid off.
Judges gave Quinn Adams a score of 80 and her 5-year-old sister, Layna Adams, a 75.
For their parents, the mutton bustin’ event is about passing along the farm culture.
“It’s more to get them acclimated with the lifestyle,” Kurtis Adams said.
Each kid - whether their sheep charged out of the chute or not - took home a medal for mutton bustin' at this year's show.
