My understanding is that one-shot/few-shot learning is a way to allow a LLM to express chain-of-thought ability (your prompt example is expressed as cot in words)

Few shot is only show what is question and what is answer. Chain of thought is more like guide what step you need to do to get to answer. Chain of thoughts is subset of few short learing technique

ChatGPT really struggles to reverse the characters in a string. You can try to give a prompt to first generate the chain of thought. "Give me a chain-of-thought explanation for how to reverse the characters in a sentence." You can then ask it to apply the method to reverse the characters in the following sentence: The blue dinosaur jumped over the monkey.
You see it still has trouble paying attention.
