Just started a Master's program in Bioinformatics that left us with 0 lectures/actual courses for our first semester. This video series gives me the much needed motivation to get further into this field. Thank you so much for uploading!
Glad it was helpful! Bioinformatics is a very fun topic to work in / on. In my opinion it will only become more important due to the large amounts of biological data being collected currently.
A very big thanks for making these lectures available on you tube. I am really enjoying the lectures. The recordings are of high quality too. Massive!!! 💪
Your channel is a treasure, Thanks for all this knowledge, could you please add a newsletter to your personal website where we can subscribe and hear about new bioinformatics content you create in the future?
Thanks for the compliment. I normally try to schedule live streams a week or so in advance, and I announce them before on twitter. I would rather not maintain an email list, but I might in the future.
Thanks, and I'll continue to make more. Currently working on part 3 of the RNA Sequencing lectures, after that we'll have a poll again for another topic to do a deeper dive into.
Sir, I am really glad that I discovered this channel today (26th Oct. 2022) I had a first degree in botany and wish to venture into bioinformatics and has been wondering how to start. Please sir I need your guidance. Thanks
To start off with bioinformatics learn a programming language, e.g. follow the programming in R lecture series on my channel. Get familiar with bioinformatics tools through the lectures in this playlist. There are assignments for both courses, and if you have any specific questions feel free to drop a comment under the video.
Do you think bioinformatics can be a baseline for something like computational neuroscience? I know neuroinformatics is a thing but there are very few institutions that bother to offer that as a focus.
Yep, it's just labels being put on things. For all fields (neuroinformatics & computational neuro) you just need to code and be an expert in neuro biology. General bioinformatics will give you a basis in both fields (coding & biology), after which you can specialize yourself more into the neurobiology field.
Hey, I am a pharmacy student from Egypt. I find this course really interesting, still at the beginning but hoping to continue. Where can I send the solved assignments to test if i comprehend the content or not. I hope you find my comment.
You comment is found The assignments, input data, and answers can be downloaded from my website: dannyarends.nl/bioinfo/ . I don't normally check the answers but just provide example answers so people can compare theirs to mine. If you have any issues with downloading them, just send me an email (my email address is on the about page) and I can send them to you in a single zip-file. Danny
hello dear friend what is your suggest about someone who has very littile information abou bioinformatic ? Your playlists can help me if i focuse on them ? i graduated from college , biology department , can i make meself learn bioinformatic only with a pomputer ? friend
I think my playlist and the assignments are a good starting point to figure out what you want to do in bioinformatics. It's a big field and you'll need to specialize in a certain topic to be employable. Together with the R course my channel will give you the basic skills to branch out into a topic that interests you. You're going to need a computer and a good understanding of biology, as well as building a network of people that can help you and can complement your skills. Good luck, and thanks for leaving a comment
You're welcome, there are some minor issue with my web server / web site. Should be online now :) Just noticed you asked for the bioinformatics course, those are here: dannyarends.nl/bioinfo/
Hey Idris, phylogenetic trees and the theory behind them are discussed during lecture 5 (Protein homology and phylogeny). In the R course (lecture 4 - plots plots plots) we go into more detail how to create them using the R language. Also during the monkey pox genetics livestream phylogenetic trees are created from multiple sequence alignments.

Thank you for making this content available for everyone!
You're welcome, and thanks for taking the time to comment, it really helps improve visibility on UA-cam.
From South Korea, thanks for lecture !
You're welcome, glad it was helpful!
I'm very excited for the rest of the lecture series! Thanks for this, I've been very interested in pursuing bioinformatics for some time now!
You're welcome, I hope you'll enjoy the lectures and learning about bioinformatics.
just started bioinformatics and was looking for resources thank you for all of this
You're welcome, enjoy learning about the wonderful world of bioinformatics

Very nice of you Dear Sir. Sir, we need more videos like this on bioinformatics and especially the practical part of bioinformatics
Thanks, and I'll continue to make more. Currently working on part 3 of the RNA Sequencing lectures, after that we'll have a poll again for another topic to do a deeper dive into.
This is awesome content, I was looking for resources to start learning...thank you and have a great day!
Thanks for the feedback, happy you're enjoying the lectures
