Hi patrick, amazing video as usual. I wanted to ask since this works on all 13 models, why can’t it work on 12pro and max? The actual aperture is almost identical between the models and the 12pros have the Lidar too. Is this more of a software thing that apple can enable on the 12 pros but won’t due to destroying iPhone 13 sales? I really don’t understand how the 12 pros can’t do the same because the processors on them are still more than powerful enough to do this and handle all formats on the 13s. In fact that is why in tech specifications they are 99% similar with the 13s not having anything new at all except this “cinematic mode.” I can only think the actual sensors are larger which helps them but I still think that it’s possible on 12 pros. I think I’ve come to the conclusion that the only thing that defines ‘cinematic’ to me is the 180 degree shutter. Movies can be shot with natural or artificial light, shallow or deep depth of field, with pastel or contrasty colors, but if the shutter setting is off it doesn’t feel right. To me. Imho. There are exceptions. And all other disclaimers.
You’re mistaking shutter speed with frame rate. I could shoot 30fps at 180 and you’d wonder why it looks like a soap opera. A lot of film and television is also shooting off angle now too. Usually 172.
Pretty soon the only thing that will make you stand out as a short form content creator is shooting at night and not having it look like absolute shit. Only a nice full frame beast with a beautiful expensive fast lens can do that. Start shooting at NIGHT fight club style baby!!
Yes, and honestly looking at it - those edges on the martini glass are almost as fuzzy and halo-ish as the iPhone 13 cinematic footage. Hmm…It’s not as big of a difference as I thought it would be anyway. So this really is a game changer.

Virtual ND now!
5:30🤣
Et bientôt le mode anamorphic...
huh
fake bokeh is eternally distracting 🧐
I don’t even notice it anymore
Pretty soon the only thing that will make you stand out as a short form content creator is shooting at night and not having it look like absolute shit. Only a nice full frame beast with a beautiful expensive fast lens can do that.
Start shooting at NIGHT fight club style baby!!
Honestly even the 12 Pro max at night is better than a lot of my mirrorless.

lol i knew that casino royale poison drink was gonna make it into the video
It’s cuz I just ripped scenes from an essay on rack focus lmao
@@impatrickt i know the one :) when i think of rack focus it's casino royale along with that one from the graduate
Yes, and honestly looking at it - those edges on the martini glass are almost as fuzzy and halo-ish as the iPhone 13 cinematic footage. Hmm…It’s not as big of a difference as I thought it would be anyway. I was a little disappointed in the fuzzy halo in the iPhone cinematic mode - but the more rack focus shots I look at shot on $40k cameras, the more I realize…oh. It’s there too. So this really is a game changer.
@@lukemcquillan I don’t care about edge detection. critics pixel peep. audiences watch.
Or just buy a 400 dollar camera and not a 1100 dollar phone. *commencing smile*
Everyone needs a phone. $400 would be an additional expense.
@@impatrickt although if it comes down to need, you could just get a normal cheaper phone. All of the features basically add value too the phone and is (to me) considered extra expense. Everyone needs a phone but not everyone needs cinematic mode on their camera. That is just how I see it so take it with a grain of salt.
@@ryanthompson6617 camera market has been dying for a few years now. everything has plateaued. I wouldn’t recommend buying a camera to anyone that’s casual/everyday family etc. No point. I don’t even want to carry a camera everyday.
@@impatrickt true. I have been into photography and filming lately. Thank you again 🙏
I know they had to call it “cinematic mode” hahaha damn
Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 cinematic Video mode in 2019
Iphone, samsung copy from Sony
and Henry Ford invented the car but now VW makes SUV's
Young people "don't want to pick up an expensive camera", buys an up to £1549 iPhone instead 🤣🤣🤣
not sure where you live but the iPhone 13 is free here on any contract. most kids upgrade their phone every 2 years by default, in addition you need a phone. you dont need a camera which would be an additional expense. it's essentially always a great free camera with every phone if you have the right mindset.
@@impatrickt absolutely not wrong, I tend to buy phones outright and then get a sim only contract, I am getting a 13 pro, pretty much for the camera As well as the fact that as you say I need a new phone from my 6s plus 🤣. Love the video man, I'll stay tuned for the upcoming videos of the 13s 👍
👌👌👌📸
Apple can't make 4K Cinematic mode....yet. Now that's a failure to me in the era of 4K everywhere. Once again Apple save it for Iphone 14.
who cares
Unless you’ve a killer lighting set-up and mad editing skills your iPhone movie is still going to
Look like trash. (Every one of us who’s been duped into buying a GoPro after we’ve seen their promo videos)
Not the same at all. I’ve shot many videos with phones. Natural light. Just point and shoot that look wonderful.
You can say the same thing about a professional 50k RED camera. If you don’t have skill it’s not going to look great.
are we still going to get the shit reflections in the lenses at night. I hate apple.
Probably
Only 5% of iphone users use it in real.
Other wise 95% just use it for 1 or 2 times.
