  • This problem has been progressing since around 3 months after owning the quad. It seems like there is no other fix than replace the whole steering post. I will measure everything and compare it to the new shaft once it comes in. Anyone else out there having the same problem?!? Maybe a Polaris tech can chime in!

    I have a 2021 Polaris 850 HO and I’m starting to get side to side play maybe a centimeter worth but that was within 10 hours of me riding. Just did all the fluids it’s at 24 hours. I suspect I’ll have a similar issue

    Ive got a 2018 850 with no power steering just like yours, and I have yet to have this issue. Praying that I don’t!! Mine only has about 200 miles on it. My main issue with mine is how abrupt the CVT belt engagement is. Other than that, just some minor build quality issues.

    I have a 20 base model 850 and have had loose steering since new. Handlebars dont pull up but has alot of slop, like loose tie rod ends. Ive replace all the ends with EPI and it didnt tighten it up at all. Its the only thing I dislike about my machine.

    Me and the wife have 2021 sportsman 1000s, love them, we are ROUGH on them, she has just at 3k miles, I am at about 2400, finally started to get a shimmy / death wobble at 60+ mph on mine, found a lot of loose stuff, 2 wheel bearings, tie rods, and this steering shaft post. Given how many times its been driven through deep water, stuck in water, rolled, used to push cars round the shops lot / snow blade ect, I aint even mad. The wifes did eat a power steering unit while still under warranty, seems like it may have a bad fan intermittantly and some other small stuff but I mean realistically how many people put 3k miles on at in just over a year?

    The guy that bought a machine without powersteering concerned about it having problems and ends up having issues with the steering non power steering model.

    Yeah I just bought a 2017 Polaris sportsman 850 and I’m noticing the same problem. Any solutions that you could recommend. Thanks

      I would recommend just replacing the steering stem. I did it and it solved the issue, no more play. As a first effort see if the bolts on the plate are loose first. I doubt they will be but it’s worth looking at first.

    How did you seat the new bearing back into place on the diff? I'm at that stage now and not sure if you need a press or if it goes back into place just from the bolts being tightened.

    • @therealmuddawg
      @therealmuddawg  Рік тому

      I tightened it back in using equal pressure with both the bolts

    Hey man I’m having the same issue. It looked like the flange was a little warped and wasn’t holding that bearing on the shaft tight. Any updates on if it happened to you again? Possibly what caused it? It looked like I am going to have to move the fuel tank to remove the shaft…

    • @therealmuddawg
      @therealmuddawg  4 роки тому

      What do you mean by clutch? Like the primary clutch, secondary clutch, or the belt? There is no way you should have to replace your clutch like that

    So guess the dealer wouldn't warranty it? What was their reason?

  • @ediwaldosanchez7268
    @ediwaldosanchez7268 4 роки тому

    Why was the warranty denied? Also Now that you have owned the sportsman 850 would you recommend it or not?

    • @therealmuddawg
      @therealmuddawg  4 роки тому

      It was out of warranty by the time the problem happened. Yes I would recommend it but I would get the sp the next time.

    Any chance you can shim it? Any play in the bearing itself?

    • @therealmuddawg
      @therealmuddawg  4 роки тому +1

      No play in the bearing. And even if I tried to shim it I don’t think it’s possible and I wouldn’t do it even if I could because it’s not meant to be there. I like to keep everything as factory as possible
