At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

I love how the years go by, the line of family members to greet Suleiman grows longer.
Pargali was actually a fool.. he knew how the Sultan felt about Hurrem.. still he chose Mahidevran's side and went against the sultan.

He chose Mustafa, not Mahidevran. He always loved Mustafa and wanted him to become the next sultan. But he was good to Mehmet too- and would have protected hom as well.
@@TeosDiary Not true, when Suleiman was ill he told Mahidevran he would see Mustafa on the throne, it wasn't his decision to make who would inherit. He might have been good to Mehmet, but he also used Mehmet against Hurrem.

@@tymirahunt5498 you are correct, I was speaking about Pargali, he chose the wrong prince and Sultana to hitch himself to. If Mehmed had lived I have no doubt he would have made a great Sultan.
I think Suleiman knew Mahidevran was behind it all along, but when he saw Sumbul dragging Gulsah away from Ibrahim's rooms/office, that was the final nail in the coffin, so to speak. No one else in Topkapi hated Hurrem that much, aside from her. In reality, that would have been the end of her, but dramatic license kept her around for another three seasons. LOL
That's because irl Mahidevran didn't attempt to anyone's life. All she did was to beat her up (provoked by her, not out of an emotional outburst like the drama shows!)- and she was sent away. That's it- all Mahidevran actually did. If she did any poisoning, obviously- she would've beeb executed.
I think that Sumbul halted Gulsah when he saw Suleiman watching them so he would get a good look and put two and two together. :)

I think it's sad Mahidevran acts the way she is... she took the spot of someone before her, before Suleyman became sultan... he actually had children with the one before Mahidevran, but they all died young. This is the true history, not just this show.

She didn't exactly take anyone's spot- she got a "lucky shot" with Suleyman and he liked her. He was having multiple women, not just one- including Ayse. If Ayse got pregnant- she would have also been a rival to all of them, but Ayse was respectful toward Mahidevran and talked nicely about her, so I think she would've accepted her better.
This show got me into the history books to find out what really happened. Some of it is true.

Funny think is in real life Suliman shut down the harem. He lived only for her. This was made for tv. They did a good job. But I believe men can be faithful. I think we all know a few.

Very true. Once he spent his first night with her, that was it. Aside from Mustafa who was being raised by his mother, every other living child he had was with Hurrem. And she was his primary advisor as well, sitting in on divans behind a screen. At night, they would discuss what had gone on and make decisions together. Very modern.

I felt for Mahidevran as well, it has to be hard to see the man you love fall for someone else. However, the Sultan never let her side until she sent poison to his table and poisoned pregnant Hurrem. So to be honest Mahidevran brought it on herself.
Poor women, these things all happend because of one man who can't love a one woman...
He was a sultan with a harem and , irl, it was a rule- only 1 child/ woman. So that was not the problem, but how he handled it- was.

Just like he let Hurrevil be after poisoning/ killing so many people, being disrespectful to everyone, breaking all the rules, manipulating him into freeing and marrying her, listening to divan etc. Everyone deserves "forgiveness", not only Hurrevil😉

Not gonna lie, I always thought (in the show) that this was the at the heart of Sulieman’s distrust of mahidevran and Ibrahim. Knowing what Mahidevran did and that Ibrahim was willing to protect her- it kinda showed Sulieman how much his life meant to them

If this were the other way around, hurrem would have been excited, child taken after being born and given to mahideveran to raise. It really passes me off that she gets away with it every time. (It wouldn't be a good drama any other way tho lol)
Honestly, I think it would still be a good drama if it was more realistic and more fair. But they manipulated it in such a way that Hurrem seems like an indestructible super-woman, while, irl, she actually had a lot of suport- including Valide and Mahidevran was never really a threat (apart from Mustafa who was only a threat cause he was the oldest surviving son). The drama low-key denigrates a lot of people just to make Hurrem look like the ultimate hero...

Honestly Mahidevran, could have been figuring out a backup plan if it didn’t work out instead of sitting in your room praying for hurrem to die. Pretty stupid plan in the beginning seeming as she could have poisoned Suleiman. And really, relying on gulsha?!? She’s like an egg ready to crack, just as dumb as that plan.
Isn’t it odd that the Sultan can behead and kill people, but when someone vomits, he’s like “ oh gross!!”😂😂😂
The biggest mistake people made was forgetting Suilieman had people all over the place watching them and how intellegent he was. No matter what all the pieace did the Sultan still won the game. He was the only one who truely had power. Everyone ese only had the power he let them.

Mahi problems are those she herself created she was belittling harem every chance she got she poisoned her, belittled and demeaned her, lied about her, had her kidnapped, beat her no wonder hurrem turned out the way she did any less mahi would have all but assured her death.
I like this show its fine. But from the start sulieman knew ibrahim was folling the valide and mahdevran orders better than the sultan. The vrry same sultan that gave him his position. Why didn't suleiman deal with all of them in one fair swoop. Maybe even get rid of majdevran since after this "incident" she gets much worse.

mahidivran in this episode wanted to get rid of the sultan not only hurram , cause if he ate , her son is the only hier and she could have gotten rid of hurram easily afterwards, cause according to their laws the sultan must get rid of her male brothers, historically she was involved in Mehmet death as well as gulfan kids , it was the same way chickenpox. hurram historically confranted her when Mehmet died ( they were calling him the future sultan), and she said i have more princes . i read this in a book called History of Ottomans part el kanony .

Your favourite killed a lot of other people- including Ibrahim and Mustafa's babies, a lot of women too. She also wanted to kill Nazenin when she got pregnant and did, actually killed her after she gave birth- and was ready to kill the child too if it was a boy- because a fortune teller hinted her that the kid will be the next sultan. In one sense they were all right, they created the monster with all their cruelness towards her, she reached out her hand to Valide even to Ibrahim, but they chose to try and destroy her. I will never blame her for trying and succeeding in surviving.
