I use tea as the base instead of just hot water and its a vibe 😎

Hmm... I'm not sure about that recipe. I guarantee this one will taste much better:
- 2 oz Jack Daniels
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar (or molases)
- 1 pat of butter
- some piping hot water.
Fill glass with the hot water and stir well until butter is melted and sugar is dissolved.
These are a lifesaver when you are trying to get over a bad cold!
They also have pre-mixed hot toddy mixers but that's no fun....
They’re good for a sore throat if you use hot sweet tea or coffee instead of water.

My recipe as told to me by my grandma was a cup of hot tea, a shot of whiskey, a tbsp of lemon juice, and a tbsp of honey. I always used wild turkey 101, because as Grandma said that'll definitely make you gobble and cause you to sweat out that cold! When I feel like being festive about it I make what I call Appalachian hot tottie. Moonshine, honey, lemon juice, coffee instead of tea, Irish cream, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice on top as garnish.
You gotta use warm/hot apple cider. That really does it. It's perfect for fall and winter and honestly kinda addictive. I also add ginger and cinnamon to mine

Hit the nail on the head.... its basically a cold remedy. The alcohol is to help you sleep, the lemon juice ( and some recipes call for honey) help with sore throat and cough.
Tea instead of water is the move.
You need to use Irish whiskey or some Scotch, not bourdon. Jameson works well.
A few Cloves.
Sugar or honey is fine. But has to be real honey.
REAL lemon juice, not that artificial stuff.
Hot water.
Warms you up on a cold day or when you have a cold/flu.
Idk if it's just a Scottish dad thing but the way I've always been told to make it is, a shot of whiskey, lemonade, a crushed up paracetamol and lemon juice

A hot toddy is basically medicinal. It's definitely not for a good time and is meant to be soothing. My grandmother used to make me a hot buttered rum when I couldn't sleep.
My Maw Maw used those ingredients but instead of water she used hot tea and she also added a peppermint stick.
2 oz Whiskey
1 Tablespoon Brown Sugar
4 oz Hot Water, like as hot as coffee
Couple of dashes Angostura
Lemon peel and/or cinnamon stick garnish
No lemon juice

Meemaw drank these when she had a sore throat. Looking back, meemaw’s throat was always sore!
If you make it cold and put some ginger juice instead of water it becomes a very nice drink
tequila, agave syrup, black lemon bitters, and a bit of lemon... top with warm apple cider and freshly grated nutmeg
Or swap scotch and allspice dram for tequila and bitters

I usually used spiced rum and double the amount of liquor used.
Like you said, I make these when I'm sick - they got me through Covid. 16oz bottle of water nuked in the microwave, 4oz bourbon of choice, 2-3 tbsp honey and real lemon juice (not the concentrate crap) - tweak to your preferred taste.
¾ cup hot water
2 ounces whiskey
3 teaspoons honey, to taste
2 teaspoons lemon juice, to taste
dash cinnamon

That's the whole point. You use it when you're I'll. The lemon to help clear your sinuses/throat. The honey to help with the sore throat. The booze to help with all of them as well. You don't drink it for a good time unless you consider sleeping a good time.
My aunt adds a little black tea it definitely picks up the slack

Don’t add the hot water, microwave the bourbon. Trust me in this one it’s life altering.
I use 1.5 oz bourbon + 0.5 oz triple sec, then the honey, lemon juice, and hot water. More whiskey is better. The triple sec rounds it out.
I make mine with whisky, honey, herbal tea, and… theraflu. ;)

The best version of the hot toddy is if you use hot tea instead of water, especially if it's a spiced orange tea, throw in a little bit of cayenne powder and your throat will thank you!

Use HOT HOT water and dissolve the honey first. Steep an earl grey or English breakfast tea bag in it. Then squeeze one fresh lemon wedge and add more than an ounce of whiskey.
A good warm tea is best
I highly recommend a hot toddy when you're sick. In fact, that's all I have ever known it for is to help break up mucus in your throat and sinuses when you're sick.
