I recently made the decision to invest in a high end chair. I work and game at my computer so I end up spending a LOT of time at my desk. I don't have back pain or anything, but wanted a premium product that would last a long time. Like with everything I spend a considerable amount of money on, I did a lot of research before making a decision. Read and watched pretty much opinion I could to try and get a well rounded perspective. I ended up trying to decide between the gaming Embody and the Haworth Fern. I purchased a fully loaded Fern online, the backrest was amazing, I got the digital knit and it was incredibly comfortable. The deal breaker for me was the seat. I'm a large person, I'm 6'2 and 240 pounds, to be comfortable in the seat I needed the seat pan adjusted all the way out, which left a huge gap between the back of the seat and the bottom of the backrest. This led to tailbone pain after a couple hours of sitting.
I returned it and learned from my mistake, don't buy it until you try it. I drove 2 hours to a HM retailer to try out my 2nd choice, the Embody. When I went to the showroom the person there was very helpful and had me try out both versions of the embody. I sat in the gaming Embody and listened to their sales pitch (even though I knew everything about the chair already lol) and found it to be comfortable, and the seat depth felt good. I figured, I drove all this way, might as well sit in all the HM chairs while I have a chance. Then I sat in a size C Aeron and man... It wasn't even on my radar walking in there, heard a lot about it being a rigid and unforgiving and forcing you to sit in a good posture. But it was instantly the most comfortable chair I've ever sat it. I spent 2 hours in the store just going back and forth between the Aeron and Embody. I was *trying* to convince myself I liked the Embody more, because I like its visual design. But every time I got up from the Aeron I missed it and just wanted to go back. I ended up going with my gut and am now typing this from atop my aluminum base, leather armrest, size C, full loaded Aeron, and I couldn't be happier.
Ultimately I'd say everyone's body is different and you *cannot* be sure unless you test the chair thoroughly for yourself. If you absolutely cannot make it to a brick and mortar location, make sure you buy from a brand with a solid return policy and can afford the time it takes for a refund to go through.

Thanks for this. I am exactly in the same boat, I am just waiting for the HM store to have it back on display to try it.

Anytime someone asks me about HM chairs all I say is “Go sit in an Aeron. If you can get comfortable then that you can dial in any HM chair.” The reason I say this is because about two years ago my company got Aeorns for the office. And for the first two months, I hated it. I couldn't get comfortable no matter what I did. But after I while it clicked and now the Aeron is my favorite chair. Even with an Embody at home I still prefer Aeron.
But it really does depend on your needs if you are strictly tasking get the aeron on don't look back. If you are gaming, watching movies, or anything like that consider something with a higher back. Because in those cases you will probably be reclining. And no matter how good the Aeron is the major downside is the top of the backrest will dig into you shoulders if you are taller the 5’6 to 5’8 when you recline.

Not gonna lie the same thing happened to me- I’m 5’10 250 and have a design within reach ten minutes from my job. I went in dead set on trying out an embody, believing it was FOR SURE the right chair for me. The sales rep could see I did my research…smiled at me, and suggested I try an Aeron RM size C.
When I sat in that REMASTERED Aeron size C the work stopped and I felt like I could pass out right then and there-
I drive 3 hours round trip to get my hands on an embody and 4 hours round trip to get an aeron RM SIZE C… I’m 5’10 so fern w/ lumbar and atlas headrest adapter doesn’t present the same seat issues it does for you…but I have a an Aeron RM C as my daily driver, a fern digital knit with lumbar and atlas adapter as one WFH and a gesture with OEM headrest as my other WFH. In a pinch, for the right price I’d sell my Aeron RM… but i sold an embody with atlas headrest and then 3 ferns without any regrets. My aeron would be the only sale that would hurt me…literally and figuratively.
I picked it up for $500- like new fully loaded…plus atlas mesh headrest for another $150-
I’ve compromised on fern resales, keeping my best one, and gesture won’t get the resale return of the fern and aeron…but my lord is the aeron is so superior it would take a cool G to get me out of it at min, and that’s only bc I’ve sat in my fern and gesture long enough to know they’d suffice as daily drivers if needed.
Aeron is still king for me…and it runs cooler than any other chair- the caveat is that it needs to match you at the A,B,or C size…. Lastly, it’s worth mentioning that the Aeron RM size C in particular tends to be the config that is game changer for those who fit it. I’d bet that for those 5’10-6’ the fern aeron rm c and gesture will all work at 230 plus…for those btwn 5’10 and 6’1 the embody is a wild card depending on weight and body structure, and at 210 or lower all four plus leap v2 and Zody v2 with lumbar are in the mix.
But again yo your point, the Aeron rm size C hits different, and is far and away the best chair I own. And I’ve effectively tried them all.

It should be mandatory for Aeron reviews to talk about Posturefit SL vs the old pad-style lumbar support. Posturefit SL is more expensive and inferior. I think this should always be mentioned as it seems all Aeron reviews use the inferior Posturefit SL.

I've had the Aeron for over a year now and I'm really happy with it.
I think I much prefer the pelvic, lumbar and sacral support it has when compared to the Embody.
The recline motion still feels as satisfying as it did the first time I sat in it.
The forward tilt mechanism is amazing for FPS games like Warzone 2 and PUBG.
Overall, the chair has held up excellently and it more or less looks brand new.

Don't know why not many mention how Herman Miller chairs have OBSESSION putting a lot of pressure under your thighs. Embody is literally like sitting on double layer of plastic when retracting the seat. Aeron cuts of circulation to legs completely.

@@notoriety7473 Nah. The problem with Embody is the retractable part of the seat cuz if you want to make the seat shorter the plastics overlap creating 1 hard pressure point. It's like you are squatting while having plastic bar digging in back of your thigh. The comfortable "pixels" only exist in butt area.
All the way out its mostly fine cuz it's 1 layer so it's softer.
Seems like HM didn't know how to make the seat shorter without having to move it like standard office chairs so their solution was this.
I want to sit on flat surface not uneven. I squat in gym not while sitting.
