It's funny martin being on the cutting edge of technology was 50 years or so late to accept that the adjustable trussrod is the way to go. I love them, they are the best but it's just interesting.
I would never have guessed the ebony rod was offset. They were extremely mindful of what they were doing. I wish more details like that were commonplace!
My 45 D 18 is ebony. Mass street music reset it so I did not see the neck removed and whether it was off set or not. Local shop had a 45 D18 in for a reset and he showed it to me and it was metal. Mine has no grommets and the original plastic buttons and the tuners still work fine. Very light guitar for sure without the metal.

Interesting but it really does not matter if its off centered as long as its has not pores ...... that dovetail joint looked chipped though 🤣
The dovetail is chipped, yes. I have JUST started on the guitar. I'm going to fix it.
