It does help to work with a teacher or a group of people. Many of the books written for beginners are a good place to start.

It's generally a reverse earth pentacle. it has to do with the elements and the points of the pentagram.

I haven't used a pentagram for this. I prefer a circle. When I have been on the astral I have used an earth pentagram for banishing.

If it's cursed you will most likely notice. Cleanse it thoroughly and then consecrate it.
