I thought that it was impossible for him to reach 700 halfway through the season. Then he started hitting like it was 2005 out of nowhere. What a fantastic moment.
I think the Albert self-hug was a sign of wanting to hug the LA fans. He said himself that his time on the Dodgers reinvigorated his love for the game a bit.
The hugs he gave out on the Dodgers became a bit of a meme last year. Everyone in LA loves Tio Albert. We know he's a Cardinal first, but it was awesome to have him even for a year.
Watched this game live, the atmosphere for every at bat that Albert was absolutely insane, nothing that I’ve ever experienced before. You could hear from the crack of the bat that it was going to be a homer, the crowd went absolutely nuts, I’ve never heard a crowd that loud in my life. Even at an away game, Dodgers fans were cheering because they just witnessed baseball history.
Reminds me when we were watching Albert Belle, as Indians fans, after he was traded to the White Sox and playing the Indians for the first time. Every at bat was tense.
I played in a college golf tournament with his son in Las Vegas. I wasn’t keeping his score and he introduced himself as AJ not Albert Pujols Jr. so I thought nothing more of it. It was a cold and windy day and I saw his parents were following him around which isn’t weird so again I thought nothing of it. They were both dressed to the teeth because of the temp so it was hard to recognize him. Long story short I was just talking with this guy for the whole day. He helped us find golf balls and went in front of us to watch them down. Super down to earth guy and I had no idea it was the man himself till my coach told me after the round. Best collegiate experience I ever had.
Pujol's wife backed into my uncle's friend's car, she apparently was super apologetic about the whole thing, despite most of the damage being done to her car
I'm not a Cards fan but I cried watching it lol. It was just a beautiful moment, especially after how rough the last 10 years of his career have been for him.
Yes, that was special. As it should be. The fact he did it in Dodgers Stadium was special to us Dodgers fan. Albert was here a short time but he was loved by his teammates and fans.
You totally missed Dave Roberts reaction where he started cheering and then remembered he was the manager for the dodgers so he stops abruptly and tries to play it off.
I’m so happy to have followed this man from his rookie year onward. Thanks for the legendary moments dude. I’m a Mets fan from queens but it’s been an honor watching him on and off the field. LONG LIVE ALBERT!
Grew up watching Pujols as he's one of my first baseball memories. Was really looking out for his 700th. Saw his 699th. Got ready for work, had MLB loaded on my phone and all to watch at work, got there and saw I had missed it while I was getting ready. Can't describe how bummed I was during the whole shift and next day. That all said, congrats to Pujols for 700 and those who saw the home run!
@@icepick859 I mean "don't give a single shit" is a bit of hyperbole. I don't follow it or know players or stats or anything, and I don't seek it out. But if there's a game on I'll probably pay attention, and I do really enjoy an exciting, close game. I'd rather watch my team lose a 5-4 nail biter than win a 20-1 blowout. Probably why I enjoy jomboy so much, it's just a bunch of the exciting and quirky bits condensed into a short video.
Dude, I probably watch your videos more than I do actual baseball games (I’m more of a hockey guy), and this was expertly done. I bet Albert will eventually see this and get a good chuckle at all you pointed out. Good work.
Waino and Yadi cared about his success as much as he did. Love seeing players come in together and leave together. Too bad Pujols couldn't wait for one more year but understand. Thx for the memories!
Jimmy I know you get bombarded by Mariners fans all the time but I really do think it'd be cool if you did a breakdown of their walk off homerun to get into the playoffs!
your attention to the small details in the background... like the kid getting caught in the sweatshirt during one of the biggest moments of recent baseball for individual feats... man I love it.
I am the Cardinals fan a few feet behind where 699 landed. Ask me anything. To start, the whole outfield stood up for his first three at bats. The walkway where 699 landed (which is supposed to be free of standees) was crowded from people from who knows where. It was an electric atmosphere. Los Angeles really loves him. It was special to see.
I don't even watch baseball but the way you describe things is hilarious. I see this was a pretty good historical moment so that's awesome. But I'm still cracking up about the high fives and the kid being stuck in the shirt 🤣

So glad to catch your take! Sadly those of us in LA missed this because Apple TV got the rights to broadcast this game over the Dodgers Spectrum channel. Tío Albert will always be family!
Only thing marring the night is the Apple TV+ scrubs got to make the calls rather than the broadcasters who have been with the team for 25 years. MLB should be ashamed that happened
I’m not trying to take away from his 700th home run but Jomboy has a point here. Us as righty’s need to maybe sometimes start throwing out left handed high fives. It really isn’t fair..Jomboy is making the world a better place.
I don't even watch baseball but this video just made a grown man cry. To think about all the sacrifices that lefties (sorry, "left-handed persons") have to suffer every single day... it's just so heartbreaking.
Was at this game! Something told me he was going to get #700 that night. Sure enough, when it happened I took that moment to appreciate and witness baseball history go down!
Omg thank you @Jomboy for pointing out Wainwright not doing double high fives. Was laughing histarically after Pujos and Beltre did. Great vid as always
Great job, the only thing you missed was Dave Roberts' reaction to it in the dodgers dugout (i think it was just on social media maybe and not the broadcast) because he absolutely looked like he started to cheer for a moment before remembering it was still his pitcher out there.
Fun fact: Hank Aaron's last homerun at Dodgers Stadium landed in about the same place as Pujols' #700. There used to be a plaque out there but I've heard it's been moved to the Top Deck.
You have some potentials if they can stay healthy. Harper, Trout, and Machado are around half way and 29-31 years old. Devers is about 1/4 of the way there at 25. Trout was on track for the all-time record until the COVID season and last year's injury. I believe we'll see it sooner with the universal dh in play. Fewer chances for injury.
You should've thrown in Doc's reaction of Pujols 700, he cheered and then immediately remembered Pujols is batting for the Cardinals and got serious again.
I’m 27 but damn I remember growing up watching Pujols play for the cardinals all the time even tried out his batting stance a few times. In 6th or 7th grade I did some math and had him reaching Bonds if he could continue hitting 30-35 hr’s for 15 more years. La máquina got close what a legend. Thanks for the memories Mr. Pujols! We getting old 😢
Thank you for appreciating that Lefties have it rough when it comes to high fives. Handshakes too. I’ve messed them both up so many times because of my lack of coordination in my right.
The double high five failure seemed to get more attention than Pujols hitting 700 which is exactly how I like my breakdowns.
