Hard to even find any 4-way signals or even 8" signal heads any longer in Michigan, they all but disappeared in the 80's, mostly gone to box style intersections or they have hung new clusters of 2 to 4 independent signals, all 12" heads that are just strapped together if they are still in use crossways over intersections. However, even then, they are slowly replacing them even on 'Michigan boulevards' with box style independent signal assemblies. Lots easier to see if you are the front 1st or 2nd car at a light with the box style hung over the opposite sides of the intersection. Even the interesting and complex 3M units are long gone. But in the wind, sometimes those 3M lenses got impossible to see at times, but they had some really cool looking signal heads. I came across a vid that I unfortunately didn't sub to or save itself that showed how complex it was to aim the 3M's correctly. Vid was taken probably in the late 70's to early 80's. Still trying to search that one out again. However, I love the nostalgia. Especially the 4-way lights.
There are still two 4-way traffic signals in Michigan. One is a Crouse-Hinds type M in Croswell, and the other is a Sargent Sowell in East Tawas, but it's in permanent flash mode. There are quite a few 4-way beacon signals left in Michigan, almost all are in the lower peninsula.
As a self proclaimed "Traffic Signal Purist", they destroyed these signals with the LED upgrade. Replace them with newer LEDs instead. Signal collectors would kill for 2 CH signals in original condition.
The new led bulbs don't require replacing the reflectors or lens so this will create better appearance in fact most newer stoplights are going back to traditional reflectors and colored lenses.
Now that they have LED bulbs, maybe they can just switch out the bulbs instead of installing LED units, just so they can still have those "smiley" lenses in them.
Wow... four way signal heads. That's some small town vibe right there.
It's nice not seeing these fixtures going to scrap. The led change makes the light look great. Even with those colored lenses
I really want those smiley lenses

Isn’t Michigan slowly moving towards mast-arm signal mounting?
ik its a necropost, but I stumbled upon this and wanted to also let you know there is also one in Genesee (between dort hwy and Mt. Morris Rd.

I wish I had such a signal in my collection :(
where is part 2?
I believe there changing all the traffic lights in to LEDs to save on energy cost.
Wow those are old! What did you do with them? I personally want to get my hands on a 12-8-8 signal.
Nice video 👍. Did they fix these traffic lights? Replace them or get rid of them?
If it isn't broke...don't fix it!!!
Me da mejor contijo UA-cam 😁😆😁😄😃😀
what city and state is this intersection?
I believe is somewhere in North Carolina maybe.

I wish that they would do that
