The teacher beating the Wendigo with the kid is still more believable than the pregnant woman in labor fighting off the Jersey Devil in Lost Tapes (That one found footage Animal Planet series with all the cryptids)
From a certain perspective I find that somewhat fitting. The Jersey Devil can be interpreted as a symbol of miscarriages and child defects at birth. So for a pregnant woman to beat that symbol is a fascinating idea.
The execution was still dumb though.
@@SpiderkillersInc Yeah. It was just like three seconds of her clambering over with a stick, swinging at it like 3 times, and then the devil screaming and running away.
Yeah, but still what a disappointing ending. They hipped up the Wendigo so much and then it get defeated by a pipe and small switch blade.
The lost tapes series was hilarious the only scary one was the feral vampire things in the basement
@@SpiderkillersInc it can't tho? The woman sais she rather he next kid be a devil than a another kid so no and also it's a demon monster so still no
Halloween is the name of the franchise and the franchise is based around the holiday which is of Celtic (Gaelic to be precise) origin. And in Halloween 6 Michael Myers is revealed to be cursed by a Druidic cult which causes him to go psychotic. So technically you could review it as it has its connections to mythology.
Point taken
You should look at the original short story “The Quiet Boy” it’s here on UA-cam and it’s a lot more of a creepy vibe. Honestly I do get why they did the antler version. It’s easier to market and it is easier to make it scarier than the original design
The original design of the Wendigo is like a ghoul.
I am surprised no one has yet gone with the Ice Giant version of the Wendigo though.
@@leonardhollsten8145 they sorta did when it was an enemy in 70s X-men he was big enough to take on the hulk
I read that story a couple of times. It was so good. Definitely creepy AF
I think it was also trying to mention on environmental destruction. Like most of scenes show either defrostation, on the radio it mentioned how they’re gonna start mining again.
Hmm.... about Halloween Kills. Isn't the Bogeyman a mythical creature, seems like a decent cheat to talk about the movie. Aside from it being bad, I'm really curious to hear more of your thoughts.
He was called the boogeyman he has no connections to the mythology
No just no
@@gaybitgaming Well yeah sure, but I think it could be argued that Michael is a modern day depiction of the Bogeyman, based on modern day fears, a masked man breaking into your home. In fact I'd say it's intentional, Michael is not some serial killer, he isn't even a person. Sure we get all this from Loomis, but the narrative validates him, he kills without reason, and he can't be killed. But we know all that. The big thing is the victims are all sexually active teenagers(Judith Myers, Laurie's friends), while Laurie the good babysitter survives. Yeah these are all slasher tropes, but it does play into the Bogeyman myth. A monster in the woods or under your bed or in your closet(2018) who comes to punish misbehaving children. Or in this case, misbehaving teenagers. That's my case for it anyway.
@@coryraymond7517 thats more on the religious community views on none white Christian values in slashers. They would always kill the kids having sex usuallythe jocks cheerleaders or popular kids, the outspoken, poc, LGBTQ and weird kids your typical stoner foreign n anti religious or pagan characters. While the all American guy tall white respectful to women smart usually a working class and the last girl the white purity always a virginity survive and tell the tale. Michael isn't a boogie man cause he just wants to kill his sister n live in his house n be left alone people come to his house n mess with him. Michael is more of the urban legend cause there's proof in a sense he really is a serial killer n we can see him the boogeyman is a myth or wise tale something we pass on that happen long ago n we don't remember everything n we don't have proof
Hmm good point
I love mythology and I'm so glad that I found you
Honestly even if Halloween kills isn't myth related, I'd still watch your review of it. Because the way you review movies is really entertaining.
Okay so, I THINK I understand the "virus" thing.
So at the very beginning of the movie we actually follow the little brother into the mine after the dad is attacked. It's my speculation that the little brother may have been infected at the same time after the attack.
Later, we see that the Dad's math partner had half of him.in the mine and half in the woods nearby Lucas's home, perhaps the principal wasn't the first human he ate?
As for the little brother we actively see Lucas trying NOT to feed him meat by bringing him French fries and Reese's Pieces (maybe a nod to E.T. ?).
In the original short story, which I highly recommend listening to, it's only about an hour long audiobook, we get more detail of the inside of the house and it seems to have been some sort of dark, satanic ritual that had gone awry.
As for the rest of the movie I absolutely loved it!
It takes place in a small Oregon town, which doesn't exist, but is very similar to a LOT of small town that we have in Oregon like Klamath Falls or Drain where there's a lot of run-down areas, trains, abandoned businesses, and even meth labs
(Seriously the meth problem in Oregon is insane)
But also, of course the movie takes place in Oregon, we have tons of weird, creepy shit, and almost no movie Representation aside from The Goonies and maybe Short Circuit
Ravenous is all about wendigos. A great movie.
You should check out As Above, So Below. It's one of my favorite psychological horrors and everything the Blair Witch Project should've been.
Love your videos!
It also has a bit of Dante's Inferno influence rolled in there too especially in one scene.
Oh I’ve seen that movie. Had a pretty good time with it
I also love that movie but I feel like people don't talk about it much.
From the stories I heard from my grandmother the windigo is supposed to have the head of an owl anybody so slender You Can Count the bones is this a different type of Wendigo
the deer motif is largely a European interpretation. In Celtic myths, for example, Cernunnos is a god of hunting has antlers and sometimes leads a host of spirits on the Wild Hunt where everything is fair game, including humans. Since the wendigo is predatory in nature, it's an easy segue to see a European Wendigo as a physical manifestation as Cernunnos.
That is the coolest description of a wendigo I’ve ever heard
@@chadsmith8966 cool my grandma when I was little told me that if I did stop playing video game to go to bed at the Windigo or the Pukudgies would get me
@@stetonwalters574 a part of me is not surprised that the windigo would be used as boogey-man. Lol.
@@chadsmith8966 the modern interpretation ( the dear head) comes from the movie wendigo (2001)
Please do a discussion on the movie the ritual 2017, I believe it has a wendigo in it but some people in the movie call it Loki's child
It’s not a wendigo; it’s stated to be a jötunn. Completely different creature.
Interesting
I was super excited when the first trailer came out and instantly knew it was a wendigo but massively disappointed when it was pushed back due to covid and I was anxiously waiting for it to come out. I think that if you get hurt or blood on you from the Wendigo, you become the next vessel
Pretty sure it’s from a wound like a werewolf as well as of course the whole cannibalism is the way you turn without meeting one yourself it’s basically how the original is usually made then it creates more through bite or claws (so I looked it up you transform from your own personal greed or weakness which can include cannibalism it’s also said sometimes it’s an evil spirit possession you in your moment of weakness so when your starving is a prime time to be taken over in actual lore it seems there is no sorta infection so that’s something the movie came up with but in actual myth it’s not something you can become through injury you have to be personally possessed in your own moment of weakness which actually does work for the movie seeing as the father is definitely a prime candidate for possession with how his life is going and I’m sure he has some level of greed and the kid may be applicable because of his own personal mental state to do with his father and family matters maybe cause he’s weak but not greedy that’s why the kid turns slower than the father he has less greed and weakness but enough to still be taken over idk but it kinda works)
18:57 maybe she thought its animal blood? and that room would be the room where you skin the animal, take out the organs and drain the blood?
I Believe The Wechuge is where the Deer Skull Antlered Form originated from. In reality they are very similar being that being greedy turns you into one, and/or by commiting a Transgression to your spirit animal.
Good vid, mate! I DO love Native American mythology, even if it scares me half to death! Might want to get like a bandana or something to keep that hair out of your eyes, though.
The hair cannot be contained!
Thanks for the head up on Halloween kills
I saw a movie a while back called Dark Was The Night and there are Wendigo in that.
I don't know if you watched supernatural but I have a feeling it would be right up your alley my dude.
Planning to
@@shalkonon013 That was actually my exact plan
If you look at pictures of a leshy, it's a Slavic Forest guardian it looks very similar to the wendigo in that movie, a big thing with laissez is that they can have a deer skull over the top of their head
the modern interpretation ( the dear head) comes from the movie wendigo (2001)
I thought the movie was good until the end and they could have done a lot more. Pace out the climax more, have the old Sheriff help, the brother not be horrifically injured beforehand and a bunch more stuff.
Another thing that is different about the Wendigo from mythology is the heart. The heart in the mythology is made out of ice, while in the movie it's made out of fire. I wonder why they made this change. It doesn't really bother me that much with it, so they could have gone either way.
Ravenous is a movie based around the wendigo curse.
The boy was caring for the his brother and father, mabey if acting loving toward the monsters you won't get it. Thats my best explanation.
"It takes the face....off!" Oh you're cheeky. I got that one.
Perhaps they had greedy desires or something? I havnt seen the film but I might watch it later now but I will say I’m glad it’s a wendigo (what I thought it was when I saw the trailer)
7:40: A Guy Pearce movie from the ‘90s called Ravenous.
As for people being mad about it’s look: me, personally, I was first introduced to the concept of the Wendigo from the X-Men comics (actually I think it was the 1990s X-Men Arcade, first) where it was a big muscular, white Sasquatch-looking thing.
Nice video man, I love your content!
Thank you for the great info of Wendigo.
Maybe the Windigo virus is spread through damage done by the wendigo and maybe the little brother got it by the dad accidentally scratching him after he got the virus
The antlers and having a deer head would have been better on the Celtic god cernunnos
22:00 Is that plot armor though? Werent you saying this cop is the brother of the man that turned into the wendigo and has helped him multiple times? Maybe he didn't kill him because he still has some semblance of his humanity and he recognized his brother?
10 points for the Nicholas Cage reference.
I'd really like to hear what you have to say about Halloween kills. I went to watch it a while ago and had my issues with it as well. You don't even have to make a video just a small amount of things you could put in a reply if you'd want.
I’m reconsidering doing a video
I'd really enjoy more movie reviews from you, maybe consider making a second channel for movie reviews?
I’m trying to do reviews more often. Glad you like them!
Andrew: the wendigo.....
subtitles: the when to go.
A bit late for this comment but I recall an older 2000's movie with a Wendigo that I think was called "maneater."
Teachers call on those students to try to get them engaged.
To try to see if theyve been paying attention aswell as encouraging them to be more social and less shy.
Yes it feels terrible to be that kid
But the reason isnt to make them uncomfortable.
Its to just help them grow as people cause as people we rely on human interaction and such.
I see a fellow teacher. Exactly it's for engagement and as a way to tell them.
Now if we know for a fact this will cause them anxiety we will refrain from calling them but we will walk to them and see if they are alright and see if they need help.
But if they are shy we will try to call them and make sure they step out of their comfort zone.
Andrew if you need to ask questions about teaching feel free to ask me I'll be more than happy to answer (I used to shadow elementary teacher but I myself train adults and university students.)
This is a a personal preference but when I draw wendigo I use the deer headed wendigo but with a accurate wendigo underneath, I draw them wearing a deer pelt and a deer skull mask, so both wendigo in 1 design, if you disagree it's fine its just how I personally draw them.
I just watched the movie, wasn’t perfect but I enjoyed it, it has some serious plot holes and obvious moments like you mention. Best I could figure for the infection is pseudo vampire / werewolf rules , the father got attacked, the brother possibly got the fathers infected blood ok him after and the cop gets attacked… though so did the teacher do idk
Two words, my man; "Pet Cemetery"
Halloween kills may suck but the kills were quite good
True
Does anyone actually have a problem with this guy reviewing movies that aren't myth related? I mean I know that it doesn't suit the theme of the channel. But that doesn't mean that he can't start a movie review channel. If he wants to of course. I'd sub.
Maybe it's more like the windigo is a curse that passes on to the people that killed it.
And the people who interact with it get minor curses tagging them for hosts if it dies of natural causes like starvation or falling from him places.
So then eldest son wasn't invected because of his purity and kindness.
There was a film straight up called "Wendigo", ironically made by the same guy who made Until Dawn, which feels like an apology for the film since the film did the modern Wendigo take, only less undead looking. Admittedly I still need to see it, but I think it's more of a Psychological horror deal, so I don't know if we see the Wendigo beyond little carvings and the like. It was made in 2000 iirc
The windigo sounds like a metaphor for r addiction
i mean....i wouldnt call the fuzz for anything but i wouldnt open the door.
Brooo same i hate when teachers always tried calling on me that shit shuts off my brain fr i could know the answer but with all the attention on you just cant think straight
15:29 maybe lucas is not suitable for the wendigo to habitate in him since he is the opposite of greedy? unlike the father and little brother since daddy was dealing and kids are usually greedy
16:58 I'm pretty sure there were dead people in that mine where the teacher killed the wendigo, it was just hard to see since they were in the dark background, maybe the little brother had a snack off screen.
25:17 I like the Face Off reference.
25:26 Earlier in the movie, the Native American Sheriff states that the wendigo is weakest when it's well fed, and we see that it was almost finished eating a black bear by the time the teacher fights it. If that Wendigo was starving, then it wouldn't have been a contest.
Pet Sematary is centered around the windigo again it's the antler version
Couldn't you make the argument that the shape the being entity or Force that's controlling Michael Myers is somehow based or inspired by some mythological story
Hmm possibly
I'm thinking the Wendigo has to significantly wound an individual, and maybe it has to consciously choose to spread the curse.
I'm pretty sure the wendigo is in bet semetary. But I'm not 100 percent sure though. Great video though!
This movie sounds interesting I'll have to check it out. Quick question have you heard or seen the UA-cam shows hazbin hotel and helluva boss? If you seen them What do you think about it as a mythology fan.
Not yet but curious
@@TheMythologyGuy1 if you do check out both shows here on UA-cam I think I should warn you while both shows are good helluva boss can get dark sometimes especially at the end of helluva boss pilot and in helluva boss episode 1but other than that both shows are really good I highly recommend them.
There is another movie with the wendigo but I don’t remember the name
I always confuse the title this movie with the ritual, which is another mythological horror movie.
Have you talk about wendigo yet?
In a few videos yes
@@TheMythologyGuy1 ah ok
Wait what was the Chinese one?
The Original windago looks very much like a Ghoul from D&D but the antlered one already looks like a horrible monster and not a human ;p also it looks better for a monster to get larger cause it's the Windago curse everytime the creature eats it grows becoming bigger and no longer being satisfied from a meal so it has to kill more
One could argue that any series in the media is a modern day myth. For example superheroes and Halloween
I have been in the system, and I'd say uts a coin toss whether it's actually better or not
On the note of transmission in the movie, I thought it was being wounded by the wendigo that caused the infection. Meth dad was wounded fighting the original, he hurt his son, but it was minor so it was taking longer (then drags him into the room once he figures it out), then the dude at the end is also turning because he got impaled on its antlers during the final battle
Could you talk about arachne from greek mythology
I’ve done several Arachne videos actually
"they kinda just make it as though the wendigo is just a decease like you catch it if you're around a Wendigo for too long"
I doubt this is what the writers were thinking when making this film but that's actually a pretty clever knod to yet another way one became a Wendigo in native American beliefs. By being around one for too long. That's a pretty cool detail. intended or not.
Have you read Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan it is a good book series
Just an idea for a skit is the story of Abhimanyu from hindu mythology
Noted
The Wendigo was kinda mentioned in the Stephen King's Pet Sematary. Very loosely mentioned, like 4%.
Halloween kills was amazing
I know pet cemetery has a wendigo
Ayo my dad and I were like this(without the wendigo stuff obviously) edit he's not a dealer anymore
Hey thank you for your opinion on Halloween kills I didn't mind I quite liked it I'm so sorry that you hated I'm not going to talk bad about your channel your channel is quite amazing but I still like Halloween kills if you made it paid all you want I really don't mind but thank you for your opinion still
some animated review recommendations if you’re interested…

Guys I think the mythology guy did not like Halloween kills
I was thinking something similar
Now where did you get that idea?
There's a wendigo in Supernatural
A couple of times
Oh cool
I think you should put time stamps for people who want Spoilers
I’ll try to figure that out in the future
"Halloween Kills 2/10" Michael is the only reason it's not a 1 isn't it
When does he get into the spoilers?
7:30
Windigo
You should watch ''the ritual''
Yeah, really cool movie, but it's strange because ((spoiler)) the monster is basically a wendigo how ever people refer it to Loki's child,
@@Thor_allfather it's not a wendigo tho cause it looks nothing like a wendigo
Considering it
I think that it's cool that My Little Pony had Wendigos.
I hope Halloween ends restore the movie after kills
Uuuuuuuuh weeeeeeel
The Wendigo myth, I love it. But Del Toro is only the producer, not director
You flip your hair around a lot when you start getting worked up 😅
Its never a Wendigo.... lol
Halloween kills, gross
I enjoyed this flawed movie. Del Toro is always worth the watch.
I really wanted to hear what you had to say, but it’s very difficult to focus on your content when you’re so fidgety & meandering in your presentation. I had to stop watching.

It is okay, spoil the movie because it is bad movie. Totally worth it when the movie is not good.
Can't remember the name of the movie but there was a wendigo movie set in a winter cabin
Halloween Kills imo was better than Antlers. The reason why is CGI and Plot Armor. The cgi and plot Armor is so bad in Antlers.
I once heard that wendigos have 4 forms that they can take. One is the half deer like Form, one is the as you described it Nosferatu form, one is a human form were they have milky red eyes and one is a shadow form.
