- Welcome back to day 2 and 3 of the BWCA backpacking trip yall! The fish were snapping and we were able to scratch a good meal out of a few. Nothing better then a little campfire catch and cook with the boys. Really wish these bugs would leave though, probably the worst ive ever seen while camping. #catchandcook #backpacking #camping #bwca

Yeah buddy boy does that bring back memories wilderness outfitters was our outfitter that was 25 years ago and looks the same out there we had the same problem lots of bugs and we were there for two weeks Love the channel keep up the great work always looking forward to the next video that was the best trip I ever was on

Awesome Part 2 Murda Murray! I remember last year saying you should go up there. It's cool to see you experiencing the whole shebang with Portaging & what not. Sometimes it sucks. Especially if it's humid. Lol.
All the mosquito’s, welcome to MN north country. I don’t imagine you guy’s took any head nets with. I always get a chuckle when watching other camping videos of people cooking outside or other things. When your in this you don’t want stuff that takes long to fix or they’ll eat you alive. Or find a breezy point. Think I would have taken a northern. Clean it right and no bones and out of that good clean water you would of had just as good eating as walleyes.

Agree with others on the thermocell. You threw back the best tasting fish, Pike, I'd eat that over walleye or bass any day of the week. I get 5 boneless fillets off of one pike. Leave a lot of meat, but get a lot too. None the less, enjoyed your video, have wanted to do one of those trips for a long time.

I swear by those thermacell for early season bow hubting as the bugs can be terrible and cant use spray while hunting so the thermacell is awesome. I have one for my deck at home too. The mosquitoes are terrible this year. Loved the vids from BWCA. Cant wait for the next one. Should do a day canoe trip video on the Crow Wing River right around your home area.

Yeah the MN state bird (mosquito) are so bad this time of year up there. Key time is early spring or fall. If not then bug nets are great or just some good old fashioned mud lol no joke. I’m headed up for a trip in September. Love the vids man
Thermocells and a secondary fire built behind you smothered in pine bows to smoke the crap out of camp. Work's everytime..

Should consider flavoring up some butter and oil with thyme and garlic for a sautee after seasoning the filets with Old Bay in alternative to breading and frying. A good person to look at for some good ways to cook fish is Deermeatfordinner, I think people in your area could gain a lot of recipe ideas from 2 world class spear fishers too in Kimi Werner and Ryan Myers who both have shown some good fish recipes on their channel. I remember being young and wanting the fry all the time but wait till you get the true flavor bombs that hit all the notes and you'll change your tune.
Lesson learnt with the mozzies. Next trip bring a flamethrower.

And for the bugs you should try Mosquito TNT candle works great, and BugMud spray. The invasive bugs we got in Iowa from the Derocia storm are atrocious and those two things have made my fishing and camping alot better.
You should try the BWCA after the black fly hatch,you can’t even eat without a head mosquito net..they fly in you mouth..love the BWCA

Only bad thing about youre little tent is in the rain the center sags and pools water in the middle and drips on ya all night unless you go around it all the time and tighten the fly straps

I left after one day of fishing near the BWCA last week, worst bug situation I have ever experienced. I caught a 38” and 36” pike and the bite was on but I couldn’t take it at camp. Crazy how they cleared after dark but this is special crop this year. Great slay on the smallies boys.

If you like reading books you should read the lonely lands. It is about a portage in northern Saskatchewan in the year 1954. It’s crazy how wild the north was back than and even now.

We had to mix our fish with astronaut food dried up mush in a bag but it worked and so did the 151 rum That really helped with the fire every time we would spit in it it was like a fireball I think we only caught two walleyes and dozens of small mouth

Murry were is your thermacell at?? I got one given to me and they definitely work good in my area for sure!! They definitely take a little bit of time to get there radius out and working to there full potential!! I never baught one because I thought that they would be a bust!! Now have trying one I’m thinking about getting a couple more to be able to put around the area I might be in with really bad bugs!!! You should definitely give them a try and let me no how they work for you???? Awesome video buddy and remember keep up all the hard work buddy!!!!
I'm really surprised you guys didn't have the mosquito net head gear. When I did a 10 day 90mile canoe trip in Manitoba, floatplane only access. It was amazing. But the bugs were also basically unbearable. But once I put on the head/face net, and my mesh turkey hunting gloves it wasn't too bad at all anymore.
But it was so bad, you could lay in your tent, and gear that high pitched buzzing sound filling the forest. Usually you can only hear that mosquito whine when one is right up in your ear....but there it literally filled the air at times.
When we'd go to bed at night, we'd spend an hour smashing mosquitoes in the tent before we could fall asleep.
Next time throw a bunch of greenery on the fire it will create alot of white smoke and normally keeps bug at bay

I always look for a windy sight just for bugs. Peninsulas etc.
i can handle almost anything but those bugs would have had me canoeing back to the truck
