- 2024 YZ125 jetting issues persist. Today I’m going to show you a simpler way of changing out your pilot jet on your YZ 125 in under 15 mins. #yz125 #yamaha #motorcycle #diy #dirtbike #yzfamily #jetting #dirtbike
Awesome video Ben I’m glad I’m not the only one that can not touch the ground riding a full size bike. Some very nice tricks you can do. Hopefully sometime would love to see a farther and son riding video up in the bush doing some trail riding would be great to see
We definitely will have some trail riding videos 😄 We are doing a review video for Hyper Gogo electric bikes this week for next weekend. We really appreciate your comment and suggestion-we will definitely put up some videos like that! And who says short people can’t ride?! 😂
I’m still on the original plug in my 24 yz125 lol, never fouled a single plug and just dropped my pilot jet and played with the air screw and she’s perfect. Sounds like somewhere along the way someone messed with your stock jetting before it was sold to you. I wouldn’t not recommend letting it idle till it’s warm that’s a sure fire way to foul a plug. Just fire it up and take off if it stalls fire it up again and take off, you warm them up by riding it slow for a few minutes and good to go. Also look at the plug that’ll tell you all you need to know about how rich or lean it is. Good luck bud
What pilot size did you drop it down to? What mixing oil do you use, and what’s your gas/oil ration?
@@BensOutdoorBoys I’m at almost 4,500 feet elevation and I dropped to a 58 from the stock 62. I’ve used many kinds of oil brands from Honda, yamalube, klotz, and maxima oils all worked just fine didn’t have any affects on the spark plug. I run the factory recommend 32:1 ratio with only 91 octane fuel. It’s still a tad rich up top but Im not racing it’s just for fun so don’t need it perfect. I also played with the air screw till she sounded good now it can idle for about 2-3 minutes straight before you hear it load up with fuel but never dies or fouls plugs so good enough for me lol. When I look at the exhaust tip after a ride it’s got a tad bit of wet oil but nothing that’s gunna hurt the engine and my plug is turning a nice lite brown with no wet oil on or around the base. Hope this helps a bit.
It does help! Thank you! 👍🏻
@@BensOutdoorBoys no problem, my problem was the bike would start no problem but if you turned it off for a minute or two it wouldn’t restart to much fuel and it basically flooded itself out. I haven’t touched the main I prefer my 2 strokes to be on the richer side to prevent any serious damage. A wise man once told me a fat engine can be rebuilt, a lean engine can’t always be rebuilt. Use your best judgment the bike at the end sounded good and preformed great unless you plan to race. I’d check the plug after a ride a see what it looks like that is the tale tale sign of how it’s burning after all that’s the last place the fuel mix goes before it’s burned up so why not trust the plug. Also I haven’t touched the needle clip from its stock place being at the very top of the needle so lean.
Thank you again for all the info!
You should definitely try running 40:1, sometimes 32:1 is too rich if your not in high rpms at all times and have the correct tune. I've found that 40:1 is perfect for all riding and I haven't fouled a plug on my Banshee in over a year.
and also I only use Castrol 927, its the best premix
I had a ton of people recommend that oil. I bought some and I’m going to go back to stock jetting and give it a shot ✅ thank you for your comment ✊🏻✊🏻
That bike is the cleanest one ❤❤
I absolutely love the bike! Thank you so much.
good wheelie at the start holy
Thank you! I love riding wheelies!! 🥳😎
@ hell yea man. you guys should post a lil more too like maybe twice a week but if saturday is the only day available im still watching👍
@browncok2 That’s super encouraging!!!! Thank you so much! We could do 2 videos a week but UA-cam recommends 1 long video and 3 shorts a week. We were thinking about doing a bonus one for Christmas. 😎👍🏻😃
@@BensOutdoorBoys hell yea sounds good i enjoy the shorts too 🔥
@browncok2 Awesome 😎 🇺🇸🇺🇸✊🏻😎
I love the bike
It’s a sick bike for sure 👍🏻 I think we have finally fixed the jetting issues 🎉 haven’t fouled a spark plug yet ✊🏻✊🏻😎
The dealer you bought it from should have used correct jetting .😮
Definitely 💯 I’m super pumped with all the great advice that I’ve been getting and we are getting close to have it running amazing again. Thank you for your comment 😄✊🏻😎
My brothers brand new 2024 yz125 needed to be rejetted to. He got the jd jetting kit.
@Bassslayer0 I’m surprise that Yamaha keeps sending them out when they know there is a problem with them.
Sick vid
@@truckerrae Awesome 😎 thank you so much!!! 🇺🇸😎
Check the air filter maybe check for constant spark and the top end piston could be the problem sometimes the piston is faulty
That’s a great idea! We rode today and it’s definitely better but still will load up pretty easily. 👍🏻✊🏻
Tips stay on the pipe every now and then clear it out also and do 32:1 or 40:1 mix
Thanks for the tips! I think I’m going to try the 40:1 mix and see if that works
@@BensOutdoorBoys 40:1 is good👌
@@goggleboy6325 Thanks 👍🏻
Would fuel injected be less of a head ache?
@@mikieemiike3979 Fuel Injection is amazing but unfortunately the Yamaha 125 doesn’t off it. I’m learning towards a SmartCarb… do you have any experience with them? Thank you and have a great day! ✊🏻✊🏻😎
Spend the extra coin on a smart carb. I have one on my 23 YZ, never fouled a plug. I always hear people talking about it with these bikes, but I haven't had a single issue. I'm all stock with the exception of the carburetor, so that's gotta say something.
So you get any bog with the smart carb? It’s definitely better but coming off a jump and hard back on the gas it will have a slight bog… very frustrating for sure. Thanks for the tip 👍🏻✊🏻
@ the smart carb was on the bike when I bought it and had a nasty bog to it. I ended up swapping the metering rod out for one that is more rich. The difference is holy cow! 🐄
This little sucker is bog proof now. I tell you I get zero bog, ZERO.
The only down thing I have to say about these carbs is their pricey.
@allidoisme5892 Thank you for the info!! That sounds amazing 🤩 I love the bike but definitely frustrated with the jetting. Thank again 😃👍🏻😎
You should get a procircuit system it’ll help you get more power out of every gear
@@zanehughes1154 Pro circuits are my favorite! This winter we will be installing new ones on both bikes! My son can’t wait! He’s hoping for some Christmas money from the grandparents 😆👍🏻✊🏻
@@BensOutdoorBoysyup I’ve always loved pro circuit paired with a jd jet kit and it’ll be a new bike😂
Totally!! 💯 definitely getting both when we do! That combo has never let me down! Thanks you for your suggestion ✊🏻✊🏻😎
Too much oil pre mix if u dont rail the bikd to the limit u dont need too much oil. I use 40:1 on my ktm sx85 and she has no problem.Hope this helps❤
Thank you for the tip 👍🏻✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻
can you make a video showing the clutch work you need to do to pop a wheelie
@@danielsarkanen3232 Yes, I definitely can and will!! Thank you for the suggestion! ✊🏻😎
I want to know more about the mic, who makes them do you a a model number. Thanks for sharing the info.
DJI Mic (2 TX + 1 RX + Charging... www.amazon.com/dp/B09GYD55JF?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
They are super cool and so easy to use. You would love them. Plug the receiver into your iPhone turn the receiver on and your mics and start videoing. It’s that easy! 😃😃 thanks Luis for your comment and thanks for all your help last week on the phone!
@@BensOutdoorBoys Thank you Ben. Who makes the mics. I could not find them in Amazon. Name and model #. Thanks.
DJI MIC I paid $249 Model#B09GYD55JF
Hopefully that helps. The amazing link didn’t work… 🤔
I have a tc85 and blow/fowl plugs but I changed my jets and I stopped put the Iridium. In it and used a regler plug and I stopped falling the plugs
Interesting! That’s good to know! Thank you for your comment!
I would take it back to the dealership if it’s having issues that would be so annoying especially sense u bought it from a dealership! And only 20 mins of ride time!!! Oh boy would I be upset!
It was definitely disappointing for sure. I took it back to them and they had it for a week. When I picked it up they said it was jetted wrong from the factory. Took it home and ten minutes later same thing. When I took the carburetor apart to work on it myself, it had the factory jetting in it so I don’t think they did anything. It’s definitely better but still need to tweak it. 🙏🏻✊🏻✊🏻
One day you should let Michale ride it
That’s the plan. I’m hoping if the channel takes off we will buy a YZ85 also. It would be super cool to have all the sizes up to the YZ125. ✊🏻😎🇺🇸
Wait, what?? I thought it was a brand new bike. And they messed around with the jetting before selling it to you??
It’s brand new! I might have 4 hours on it! It was so bad I took it back to the dealership and they had it for a week. They said the jetting was wrong and they had fixed it. I took it home started it up and 5mins later fouled another plug. I opened up the carburetor and found that the factory setting were spot on and have been tinkering with it ever since. It’s better but still unreliable and I’m packing a spare plug and wrench with me. It’s been super frustrating.
I wasnt able to watch the full video cause the kiddos but what mixture are you using? I use castrol 927 and forever I did 32:1 now I run 40:1 and man what a difference especially if you putt alot and then hammer down. After 20yrs of 2 smokes definitely suggest the 927 pre mix.
I’m running 32:1 with yamalube. 1 gallon race gas 3 gallons pump gas. It’s definitely been super frustrating but we are getting close. Still doesn’t run like my 2002 YZ250 but getting there. I had several people recommend a Smartcarb? So you know anything about them? Might put one on when I add a pipe and silencer. Thanks for the help and have a wonderful day! ✊🏻✊🏻😎
@@BensOutdoorBoys that carburetor you have on there is a great carb. Dont buy one of those. Yama lube is horrible for fouling plugs. I have a 2003 yz250. I absolutely highly suggest running the castrol 927 40:1 pre mix with just premium pump gass. If I had your bike I would do this also "only" go down 1 size on the pilot jet keep the main jet stock. And if your needle clip was at the 2nd position up from factory go to the very top grove. Also what was the factory air screw setting at. this is important to know so I can help ya. Personally its a bit sketchy how much you went down on the pilot. Dont buy one of those expesive carbs. Over the yrs ive became a jetting nerd lol. Worst case scenario absolutely buy a JD jet kit from there website. They ask you what bike you have what elevation and riding style. Big thing also they give you a different needle to lean out the low to mid range if necessary.
I’m definitely going to try Castrol 927! I have the stock needle and it on the first clip position. I’m definitely slightly nervous about the pilot size and I feel like it might have lost power. I’m not fowling spark plugs anymore so that’s good. Definitely really enjoying getting back in a two stroke again and riding with my son who is on a YZ65 😎✊🏻 thank you for your detailed comment I really appreciate it 😄😎
Also my elevation here is between 200 and 1200 feet and I’m 2 3/4 out on the air screw.
@@BensOutdoorBoys ok I'd definitely switch to the oil I recommended and all the settings and jets and start with your air screw 1 1/2 turns out no more then 2 1/2 turns out if its still to rich absolutely get that JD jet kit. I'm at the same elevation and there is no way you should need to go down more then one size on the pilot and if you go all the way up with the needle clip and its still rich its going to be the needle your gonna change. The JD kit comes with step by step instructions. It makes jetting simple and definitely run 40:1. Also when you use the 927 and 40:1 drain all the yama lube gas out of your bike so it's only the 927 and 40:1 pre mix with the settings and jets I recommended in my reply up top. This is very important to get your base line start.
Get a lectron carb or smart carb way better i have lectron carb the h series an it was 560 an my bike runs amazing good no more jetting problems i have apex head an i told lectron about my bike yz125 2003 an apex head the more u tell them better they set up ur carb they send u i love mine i never foled a plug on lectron carb
I’ve heard a lot of good things about those lectron carbs. I’m going to try one more tip I got from another UA-cam subscriber, and if it doesn’t work out might get one of those.
First
(Im 10 and im getting a pitbike soon :))
That’s awesome dude!! I’ll never forget getting my first dirt bike! Best day of my life! Congratulations 🎊🎉 ✊🏻✊🏻😎
@@BensOutdoorBoys thank you
@@BensOutdoorBoys also I love ur vids :)
You ROCK!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much! ✊🏻😎✊🏻😎
No problem 😀
sooooo… i also have a 24 yz 125 that fouled plugs like hell. what i did was change my spark plug from a br9 to a br8es opened my air screw .5 of a turn and she’s barking now. hopefully this could help
This video turned out awesome! So many people like you commented with great advice! Thank you very much! 👍🏻😎
I had the same problem but what worked for me was my oil mix i was using yamalube oil mix but now im using castor oil mix and i havent had any more problems
You are the second person that said the same thing! What fuel mixture do you run? We are running 32:1
Thanks for the comment 👍🏻😎
Would you say it is hard to do jetting as a beginner?
Yes and no 🤪 There is a ton of videos out on how to do it. Some people really know what they are doing and some don’t. I’m probably in the middle and I’m not very mechanical. I have done a handful of Banshees, 250R and a couple motorcycles. So for me 1 to 10, 10 being the easiest, for me it’s a 7. Hope that helps and thanks for the comment ✊🏻😎
I’m 13 an i ride a Crf250x and it’s been not wanting to warm up, start, and it takes like 15 mins of wheelies to warm up. I think it’s just carb issues since i sometimes ride in sand but what do you think?
I had a 2009 CRF250 and absolutely loved that bike but I had the same issues. I would have to roll start that bike and if I shut it off and it sat for 30 mins forget about kicking it over to start it. It could be the valves need adjusting or like you said sand in the carb.
@ Yeah i think im gonna try and get it in the shop mines a 2006
That sounds good! 2006 to 2009 was the same motor.
@@BensOutdoorBoys it has like ASV lever, pro taper bars, new top end, aftermarket pipe, and aftermarket plastic and i think i’m gonna sell it since i just got a yz450
That YZ450 is awesome with the fuel injection. That’s a big bike! Hang on!
Do you mix your gas with oil?
Yes 👍🏻
@@BensOutdoorBoys ok cause sometimes don’t know how that can be the problem and mess up the jetting
When the bikes come from the factory they are all built the same way and depending on your location and your style of riding you might need to change the jetting so you don’t burn up the engine or in my case its running super rich causing me to foul spark plugs, like crazy. Hopefully that kinda explains it a little better 🤔 Thank you again for your comment ✊🏻😎
how tall are you ?
5’5” with my shoes on 😂😆
hey go from a BR spark plug to a ES spark plug thats what I did and it never plugs
Im definitely going to try those plugs! Thank you for the advice 😄👍🏻😎
ps… if u let the bike sit while warming out ur most likely going to cake your spark plug
Back in 1999 or so we all warmed up our bikes before taking off. So you not have to do that anymore because of synthetic oil? Thanks for the tip ✊🏻😎👍🏻
Too rich I ran 50/1 now 40/1 runs like a champ
Thank you for the comment 👍🏻
We just installed JD jetting kit with a full FMF and the mixing oil is a full synthetic. Now we are running 40-1 and your right 😎👍🏻 runs amazing 🤩 so freaking happy we did this ✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻
Why is your 2 stroke smoking soo much mine is not doing that
Because it’s super fat meaning it’s getting way to much fuel
I’m working to lean it out. It’s definitely running super rich.
hi
