No doubt. Most modern recordings are glued using an underlying synth of sorts. This would be a fun way to use the guitar for this effect without having to roll off the attack.
@@guitarguitaruk Agreed!! As a Fripp fan this nifty little things gives me the exact vibe I hoped from it. One of the best $100 Ive ever spent. Its a must have if youre an amiant musician for sure
Great video, I got one about 20 years ago, when it came with the cassette with the tutorials. I still love it, even if for just banging out a Big Country tune from time to time.
Thanks for the kind words. I can't remember the chords as it's been a while... Goes back and forth between E and B then maybe C or G. Glad you enjoyed 🤘
Thanks for the demo! I just picked one up to help me keep playing while recovering from shoulder surgery. I think it will work. And your outro tune was fantastically smooth and sweet!
To sound like a Didgeridoo you can with your left hand take the vibrato bar and bring the bar down far enough so the 6th string is an octave or more lower. Take your right hand with the Ebow and put it over the 6th string near the neck pickup. With the help of a wah wah you should get the Didgeridoo sound. Echo & reverb helps too. For taste a slight overdrive too. Ever so gently slide the Ebow over the pickup while lifting & lowering the vibrato bar a few cents and the wah almost all heel to mid sweep motion. Nothing to it. Thanks * mute the 1st thru 5th strings so no extra noise is heard.
I bouth one of these YEARS ago once I found out how the late great Stuart Adamson produced his 'bagpipe' sound on his Gibson LP. The most distinctive trakc he used it on was 'Lost Patrol' The intro is an awesomely sustained note that feeds into the drum intro riff. Have a listen sometime he was MASTER with the Ebow. Ive always wondered if the Egde uses one for the intro to 'with or without you' - that sustain is INSANE!
Love my Ebow. Nice take on it. Always trying to learn knew tricks with it. Also, I see you're a Morley guy as well... Yes! And sounds incredible. Who could ask for anything more!
Plug guitar in and set it clean as poss, then put some music on your phone and place it on top of the pickup thats on and hear the sound through the amp. Nowt ti do with E-boy but it got me thinking thanks.
An ebo is a wonderful piece of cake. It enables you to be able to improvise and explore a whole new world moving the ebow in different different ways. You can kind of imitate a viling bow and other things. It's it's awesome what you can do lifting depot away from the strings, putting it back down, moving over the pickups, moving away, skin string, skipping. Oh my gosh finger scrapes with ebo
Cool vide and thanks for inspiring as always! Do you ever use the Ebow on acoustic guitars? Latley I've been trying out a more acoustic setup at Martin Baltser and wonder if you have any ideas for that?
It does isolate single strings, just be mindful of muting the others. It'll depend on the output of any pickups you use. I used this on a set of EMG's and there are some searingly hotspots - but there are sweet spots on all pickups so just have fun with it and find out what sounds and works best for you 🤘
I just received a guitar that I purchased in a goodwill auction and one of these was I'm the case. I had no idea what it was, but I'm happy to find out that they go for around $75 in used condition.
@@guitarguitaruk thank you very much for responding. P. S. I apologize for not commenting on how cool your video was. My daughter wants me to make some scary music for her college film project and I think this will work instead of buying an actual bow. Hopefully the E or A string can play some low sustained sounds. Thanks again. Nice music you’ve created.
Now I know what to add to what I call the ‘Paul Stevens guitar ‘ which he (a musician I worked with long ago!) ‘bequeathed’ to me (when he moved on entirely years lago to the:l the classical world) -‘weaned’ on Shadows instrumentals (anyone remember those?) he taught himself to do ‘wicked’ things with the tremolo arm - and when he decided in the end to put it through a ‘copicat’ (does anyone remember THOSE??) - well let’s just say that Jimi Hendrix ‘All Along The Watchtower’ never sounded quite the same as did our rendering - with Paul Stevens on guitar!! I still have the INSTRUMENT… now I know how to do real justice to my former fellow musician and do honour to his memory!!
There is also some sampling done on that recording - where the ebow guitar was sampled into a synth and a melody was added to the mix alongside the ebow guitar line. Take a look at the video for "I Don't Know How I Don't Know Why" by The Church - you can see Peter playing the Ebow in that.
i cant play the e above e below the the others i can, but not that easy like ypu. i need to put it on the strings and after seconds i hardly hear the sound. could it be the batterie maybe. i mean i never changed it. or could is it broke?
Sometimes you just have to try different parts of the pickup or strings. Changing the batteries can help wonders too. Maybe try different amp settings and/or pedals too to bring out. Hope it sorts itself out :)
It's called "Arran needs to make an eBow demo chords". Just joking, it's literally just arpeggiated notes from E minor, G major, D Major then a nice bridging chord (forgotten the name) in D#/Eb. Let the eBow do the work :)
Interesting that there's no mention of this effect being used by numerous great guitarists including Brian May and Phil Keaggy. Personally I think I'd rather do the Steve Vai, Neal Schon thing and use a sustainiac switch built into the guitar.
I just got one after seeing this video and it takes like 10 seconds to have the string to start to ring no matter where I put it. Anyway, the only place where the sound ever sounds is being over the 24th fret. You can just do chords sweeping and I'm like, what the hell is wrong with mine?
If I got one I absolutely guarantee that it would get as much use as an ice cream or bread maker. A couple of weeks of it being the best thing in the world, then gathering dust .... I'd love to have one for a week though. :)

I'm not a guitar player and know nothing about gear and stuff, but if i understand correctly ebow basically just makes the sounds.. longer? Isn't it uncomfortable/awkward to play with that thing in your hand? Wouldn't some reverb pedals(?)give the same effects?
An EBow and a Looper pedal are absolutely made for each other - think awesome ambient drones or massive harmonies...
It's absolutely addictive as well - especially when you start recording these and layering them! Oh my! :D
plus a reverb and chase bliss mood would be a match made in heaven
No doubt. Most modern recordings are glued using an underlying synth of sorts. This would be a fun way to use the guitar for this effect without having to roll off the attack.

Question: Could this ebow be used to record in something like Logic pro?
100%! The signal from the ebow comes straight from the guitar, so any amp plug-in will work with the E-Bow

Hi, just a question... Can you used it on a classica electrical guitar? (a guitar with no pick up but just a hole to plug it in the amplifier)
