Once I discovered them, PT redefined the standard by which I judge music. There is so much of my record collection than I no longer listen to because I now feel it doesn't come up to scratch.
This guitar solo is so intens , never heard something like this before . It is not the speed but the intensity and the note progression that makes it unique. Chapeau!!
One of my fave PT songs, very poignant, especially now that I will be turning 60 this summer. It seems surreal to me to be OLD now, part of me searching inside for all the younger former iterations of myself and missing more and more those who have left this plane before me-- my only son 6 years ago at only 31 years old, my parents, my grandparents, beloved pets, even my fave musical artists and actors and authors. When I was 20, 30, even 40, I still felt I had all this expanse of earthly time left to me to figure things out; now at 60 and with health issues I think with a sort of startled awareness that I might have only 10-15 years left, 20 if I hang in there but will I even have a life of value at 80 if my health is gone? So this song fills me with nostalgia but reminds me I have to live in each moment, in the now, because no one of ANY age is promised tomorrow.
I'm 28 and feel the same way despite being so young. As far as I know, life is short and nothing really matters, I try to focus and enjoy every day but society tries to put everyone down and make us focus on spending and trying to retain something that is already gone. I really hope that you can live a healthy life and keep enjoying PT with their new stuff.
@@arturoalmeida16 Sometimes the concept of truth of impermanence can seem terrifying when there is something we desperately want to hold on to or fear losing forever; but sometimes knowing everything is always changing and flowing can almost be a comfort. I see things I would hope never to happen again indeed reoccur, mostly due to our basic nature and how our brains are wired, and those negative events can fill me with a sense of despair and make life seem to agree with the aphorism 'the more things change, the more they stay the same.' But in the great cosmic sweep of existence even these contingencies of being human will surely pass away in some distant future, should humankind survive that long. Sometimes all I can do is just close my eyes and BREATHE till everything in and around me becomes still and for an instant or maybe some plane out of time nothing matters__ but in a good way, not a nihilistic way. If that even makes any sense to anyone but me, ha.
And this week, seeing them live again in Amsterdam Ziggo Dome , after so many years, I realized....Time Flies, but SW's music has been a contant friend and companion since I first heard and saw Stupid Dream in 2000. It was a heartwarming, nostalgic gathering with an enthousiastic, greatful crowd. And the good news: the show has been recorded on camera!
The live version of "I Drive the Hearse" (from Octane Twisted) is such a good song. Filled with great vocals and guitars and meaningful lyrics! I definitely recommend it.
Yes, this song is very much a tribute to Pink Floyd. They are really wearing their inspiration on their sleeves in this one, album version is even longer it's great.
Brilliant description- a wake up call song - Believe me, the older you get the more this fundamental truth penetrates your soul. Your reaction made me a new subscriber. I look forward to your future reactions.
Hey BigBeat, I just stumbled upon your channel. You only just began, and already you're doing Porcupine Tree, one of my alltime favorite bands!? I watched all your Porc Tree reactions instantly; you've earned yourself a subscriber. I see in the reactions you already have a lot of really good PT suggestions; I'm not gonna add to those. Instead allow me to introduce you to some of Steven Wilson's solo-work. Steven Wilson is the singer and in most cases songwriter of the band, and he has some solo-albums that are just as good as the PT catalogue. He's a godlike sound producer too btw, so his lives always are awesome and have top notch audio quality. Therefore I'd like to suggest Steven Wilson - Luminol Live. Luminol, The Watchmaker, Remainder the Black Dog, these are all insane songs live. Luminol tho, that one's my favorite. The only song I wouldn't recommend the live version over the studio version, is Steven Wilson - Home Invasion/Regret#9. It's a must listen too tho, sooner or later this suggestion will come up since it's an insanely good song and solo. But take your time. It took me over a year to get through the entire PT and SW-solo discographies, and it was well worth it. Have fun on your journey man, this is such top-notch amazing music, this is indeed the stuff some people live for as you once said.
Great to meet another who is humbled at the feet of Steven Wilson - share your awe. Try Cheating the Polygraph, Start of Something Beautiful live at Tilburg, and Hatesong live from Chicago - all beyond genius. Steven Wilson is without question the most talented writer/composer and producer of our time - cannot go from day to day without his music - and Porcupine Tree must be the best group of masters of their instruments ever to have performed.
Great reaction, You need to check out “hatesong” live version, it it a piece of art, also” cheating the polygraph” live is a great watch, these guys are just the best at what they do, and even better live.. I’m enjoying your journey! 😁
Steven Wilson is a musical genius. He has three bands: Porcupine Tree, Blackfield and his own "Steven Wilson" stuff. EVERY song is great. He can't make something terrible. I love his early backfield stuff. The greatest music of our time is from his personal band (steven wilson) --> The raven that refused to sing, drive home, routine (watch the official video on all three of those) and then watch live Luminol, the watch maker, index and harmony korine. Also live from Porcupine Tree -> Hatesong, Dark Matter, Anestisize, and so many others are just masterpieces. He literally can do a bad song. From Black field, live from NY concert is out there, try Pain, Once, Cloudy Now, 1000 people, Some Day, the hole in me, all awesome.
Routine by Steven Wilson (the official animated music video) will destroy you. Especially now. The whole of Octane Twisted is insane. I was at that show. Best present my wife ever.
Steven Wilson is the singer and has solo stuff. Gavin Harrison is the drummer and is now with the band Pineapple Thief. AlSO great music. Check out some of Stevens stuff. Luminol live in Mexico City Porcupine Tree is back together again too .Check out the song Harridan
This song really takes me to a special place. I’m really hoping we get this song live in LA. I’m really enjoying your Chanel. Can I recommend The band Rush for you to start reacting to? If you love PT you will more than likely enjoy this amazing power trio! Cheers!
Ah yes PT, one of the best bands in the world that few people have heard of, Steven Wilson is imho one of the best musicians out there, let’s not even start with Gavin Harrison, best modern day drummer
Porcupine Tree, well three of them have reformed with an an album out in June and a tour later this year. Check out a new track from the new album called Harridan
I saw rush on their R40 tour and I saw Roger waters in 2017. I'll be seeing him again this summer in Ohio. I am not too familiar with tool, so we will be doing some of that on the channel for sure!!
Sometimes the phrase "musical genius" is thrown around too frequently, but I think Steven Wilson is easily in that category (along with the likes of David Bowie, Frank Zappa, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Stevie Wonder, Ray Davies, etc.)
You think you understand, but you cannot possibly understand. Enough time has not flown by you yet, carrying you along with it like a tumbleweed in a gale. First, your body begins to fail you, and the physical pleasures of a lithe and strong young stature become things which will then exist for you only in your memories. And your world becomes smaller, closing in on you. Even that will eventually be denied to you as you memories get jumbled together, get fuzzy along the edges, and then fade away completely, and you gradually lose the ability to focus on doing something or retrieve a story in your memory. Instead, memories flood your mind at random, unbidden, to fill the void created by the loss of the ability to work or think efficiently. Some make sense, like the aroma of a youthful lover, or the feel of her arms around you. Some don't, like a vision of some ruins you once visited. Or maybe that does make sense, for your body and mind are now in ruins. Eventually all those memories, the sensible ones, and the strange ones, will fade away completely, and your world will get continuously smaller as they gradually become lost to you. The lovers you had during your life, or the ones you rejected, will be the last of the memories to disappear from your mind. The best that you can do is take whatever comes to you (and make the best of it).
Once I discovered them, PT redefined the standard by which I judge music. There is so much of my record collection than I no longer listen to because I now feel it doesn't come up to scratch.

Derek trucks is one of the best guitarist alive. Arguably the best slide guitarist ever.
Also Derek Trucks “Chevrolet” in studio

Great point. I agree 100%. Thanks for the comment and welcome to the channel
Have you done Trains or Russia on Ice by PT, both are fantastic.
Not yet. I'll add them to the list. Thanks a million for the request!!
It's like Star Trek, "Sokath, his eyes uncovered". This level of music is why the older generations hate todays crap. Freakin boy band idiocy.
