- Hi Everyone,
I'm feeling lucky here, so let's see if you agree.
I got myself an amazing mystery bucket of rocks from Michigan. I think you'll be blown away like I was but you'll have to watch to find out.
In this video I explain a bit more about myself and how I came to get these rocks. I'm breaking up my chatting within the reveal segments so I don't lose you all at the beginning with all my words.
I mentioned in the video to check out another UA-camr, Michigan Rocks 👇
/ @michiganrocks
I think he's the go to guy for rocks from the Great Lakes region. He's also a good guy in general.
This will set me up for multiple videos to come where I Cut, Carve, and Polish many of these amazing pieces.
Until then, please enjoy.
Thanks for your time.
Fred
We do have awesome rocks in Michigan. It was fun watching your excitement.
@@melodyfaith7712 Yes you do, and how could I help it? I watch others doing the Michigan hounding thing and all I keep thinking in that clear lake water is...I want to go snorkeling for stuff.
I'm happy to know you were entertained. Thanks.
Michigan Rocks is good - there are so many out there now ..... when i first began my own 'addiction' to begin doing this and due to my housebound situation i am moving very slowly towards my own channel and goal but my love of rocks and other outdoor interests like mudlarking fossil hunting etc too - I am now watching many of you around the earth having so many wonderful experiences and sharing what you are learning - saving me alot of time as its the best way to learn whilst you cant get out - i have tried the 'formal learning' channels but i have a much greater enjoyment watching real life peoples experiences and they are basically a version of me too ! Much love and many thanks for your channel too !
@@Mummaearth I understand and agree. I have more fun and the terminology sticks when I hear a word while someone is inspecting a rock in a real world way.
I feel blessed that I'm one of those for you. Learning from textbook style channels is harder for me although I do enjoy a couple channels due to the visuals and style.
I may do a "Why you should start your rockhounding channel now?" video.
You and a few others have mentioned wanting to start your own channel. I just started less than 4 months ago and having a blast. Of course there's a learning curve and personal emotional reasons I'd been waiting for over 10 years to start a channel but imagine where I might be had I started way back then with a Treasure Hunting Picker channel for my eBay business. So maybe I do a little video of motivation and explanation of how I'm doing it and with what equipment.
What do you think?
Want to see something like that?
Super fun video Fred! Great to see you fan girl over the Michigan rocks!
Yep... I'm a rock groupie 🥰
😮 This bucket is priceless!! How freaking cool are ALL of those?!? I could see your hands trembling with excitement ☺️ I would've been the same with all that! Excited and IMpatiently waiting for the follow-up videos. Hope you're feeling better nowadays. Take care! Oh and I thought about your shirts the other day when I put one of my hoodies on. It has a sloth with a rock ⛏️ and it says slow down I see a rock. 😄
I think I felt like I was shaking but I didn't notice it in playback. Funny you caught that.
I am feeling better and published a hounding video yesterday.
I have one that says... Stop the car, I see a rock (with tire breaking marks on the pavement) 😁
@@LezBeRockin73 Lez we gotta get him involved in the discords and get more of the community subbed up.
Dude, you're way too cool. I appreciate the push and the support. Let's go. I've actually had my biggest week of subs so far. On the 7th which was my wedding anniversary I woke to 98. Today I have 126...so 28 in 6 days. That's good for me and very motivating.
I bow to you sir...I'm not worthy 😁. Thx
I've been told I need Instagram, discord, and Facebook for promotion. I'm good at some stuff but not getting myself out there. 12 years of eBay and I've never made a logo or banner. I now know how to do that so I need to share the love with my business...but you can see what I'm saying. I'm 50 years old and UA-cam is my first account with any sort of social media aspect to it. I'm so old school.
@@just-one-more-rock bud I am 53 and same here. You have one up on me with ebay though. I haven’t ever sold anything. I may in the future once I get the equipment I want. Specifically a cab machine at least. Have a bunch of stuff I want.
Fred, looks like you have your work to do. That will be fun to see your creativity with those rocks. You did well!
Thanks Dutch. Always good to see your comments. I'll do my best. I'll watch some videos to see what others are doing with rocks like these since I'm not familiar with them. I've got a couple ideas though 😉.
Enjoyed your teachings, a newbie ..Hi from Vancouver Island!
@@janinereibin9250 Hello my Vancouver Island newbie. Great to have you. I don't think I do to much teaching but I do have fun showing you all rocks. Thanks for watching...and commenting.
Your video came up as a suggestion (probably since I watch Agate Dad). Love your energy! Look forward to seeing some cuts :)
@@briannahile2417 Aren't I lucky the suggestion found you. Glad you like it. Hope to get something done soon from the bucket. Thanks for watching.
You're gonna love cutting the fossil soup rocks you were pulling from the bottom of the bucket. They're always surprising as to what you'll find inside, like fossil snowflakes. Check out Agate Dad's cutting video on them.
@@RickSmith-kp3sy Okay thanks. I was thinking those should just get free form polish in their shape but I can cut some. I'll check out AgateDad cutting his. Glad to have a reference. I'll go over how many I have and maybe I'll do both.
At 6:33, that fossil is called cladapora. Very nice when polished! Thats a good haul for $60!❤
@@MariaKamenos-nk6pc Hey, thanks for that info. Cladapora was written on the plastic bag they were in but other things were written so I didn't know which was which. I appreciate that.
It was a great haul. I'm working on editing a fossil cut video from that bucket...some of the ones in the bag that was written "coral cutters".
I don't know this material that much but I was so happy with the results...but mostly after they were polished. The details pop when polished. Can't wait to let you all see it. If not tonight, then by tomorrow.
I'm real excited to get at that cladapora now. I just published a cut and polish video of some of those fossils. Another viewer just commented that I had cut a cladapora and it may have been my favorite. Now I'm going crazy wondering what this big one holds.
Check out the one I cut if interested.

Omg you sooo scored!!!! Sweet!!! Get to work Fred!!! Lol
@Grandmasrockin That's what I do in life so I'm pretty good at finding things. Many times they find me. Sometimes when you talk people listen...so I talk a lot 🤣.
I know right, I've got a lot of fun ahead of me.
watch michigan rocks on how to polish for fossils. he knows how to do it
@@billywhitehorn6397 Yes, thanks. I mentioned him in the video as the go to guy for everything Michigan rocks related, as well as added a link in my description for him.
I've watched lots of history videos but will go over his library again to look for specifics since I now have some.
I appreciate the advice.
I think I may start a quick Petoskey stone project now. Maybe a day or two and I'll publish it.
I would love to have gotten that bucket! Wow. I love the lightning stones. I don’t have any.
@@JnVrockhounding I'm feeling pretty lucky about it and especially right now. AgateDad posted a video this morning cutting some big ones. That motivated me to cut a dozen small ones of mine. Hope I can get that video published within the next 24 hours. Some nice pieces to be seen.
I don't know where you're from but for me to have gotten my hands on these way out here in Oregon is just nuts. Good luck if you're on the hunt.
@@just-one-more-rock I live in south central Kentucky on the border of Tennessee. There is absolutely nothing in my county. I have to drive a couple of hours to find anything. Still there are no septarians anywhere close.
@@JnVrockhounding I'm sorry about that. I wouldn't even have this channel if things were that far away from me. I always have so much going on in life that I've always tried to keep my trips within an hour each way. Less time on the road, more hounding. That said, that was before UA-cam, so now I'll be venturing out further... especially if the channel does well in a year or so. The more I go out and the farther I go and the more I use my equipment and the more rocks I buy like these Michigan ones and Thundereggs...the more it costs me. Believe me I'm no rich man, far from it, as you can see by the equipment and set up I have so I have to find a balance unless some day monetized or I sell some of my rocks and projects to pay for my adventures.
I may start doing just that through my eBay store and if I do maybe I can set aside a couple of these for you if you want to buy a couple. I'm very much a people pleaser and always want to get people what they want. Blessing and a curse 😁
@@JnVrockhounding Oh and not sorry about where you live...just that there's no rocks around you. Sounds scary 😬
Those fossil rocks with tons of fossils are Pack Stones, they will take a nice polish.
@@smithdog4770 I'm looking forward to it. A few people have mentioned they polish well...but I have heard them called 3 different things at this point 🙂
So the ones with all the specs on them are death plates containing a bunch crinoid stems. The big thing you said was a coral first, is I think an agate. The little clam thing is a brachiopod fossil.
@@wenditaylor9708 Great, thanks. I'll watch my video again and connect your comments to the piece. I'm learning a lot as I go, thanks to you all adding comments. I appreciate you.
on the collection of fossils... they are called death plates
@@billywhitehorn6397 Death plates? Love it...sounds like a metal band name.
Would that also be the same pieces someone else called "fossil soup"?
@@billywhitehorn6397 Okay I do love it. Now I'm picturing myself and my buddy Mike from the Clatsop County agate hunting vid, starting our band when we're 80.
Sitting on the front porch in our rocking chairs ripping on some tunes.
Death Plates...We may be old...but we still rock 🤣
Those rocks with the little fossils is fossil soup n they polish very well
@@kingdonta9707 Perfect, thanks. I'm hoping to get to them soon. So many ideas and projects stacking up. I'm blessed to be buried by them. Forever content 😄
@@just-one-more-rock I know the feeling. I have totes and totes of rock I have plans for.
@@kingdonta9707 Good luck with those. You starting a channel so we all get to see what you're finding?
@@just-one-more-rock I keep saying I am, but "procrastination is the hob goblin of the mind.
@@kingdonta9707 I get it. I wanted to start a "picker" channel about 10 years ago, following me as I bought stuff for my eBay business. Now it's a rock hounding channel when I wasn't even ready for it.
I'll explain more later. Less than 4 months into my first published video and I've heard multiple times how others want to start a channel.
I think I'm going to do a little motivational, but reality check on what it takes to just do it. See if it's right. If I bump one person into starting a channel then I'll feel very accomplished.
I think those full ones are called fossil soups? repeating what i learn is an ongoing issue but i know if i ever see these stones - i will would be over the moon !
@@Mummaearth Thanks, I think I've heard that term.
Mmmm...🎶soup is good food🎶 🤣
do not cut potoscky stone. you'll ruin the fossil
@@billywhitehorn6397 Ok, I'll consider that. I did have an idea for one but that would require cutting. Food for thought. Thanks for all the advice.
@@just-one-more-rockpolishing Petoskey stones makes them really nice!
@@just-one-more-rocksome of the Petoskey stones had more silica in them and those usually tend to have more putting so you shouldn't polish those ones
@ChelsXDD Thanks. I'm finding that out now. Working on a "Polishing Petoskey" video and I love what is starting to show up. Still have more polishing to do before that video will be ready. Not sure when because I have about 5 projects in the works at the same time right now but soon.
@ChelsXDD I appreciate all the advice. I imagine you'll all watch me make some mistakes as I learn the material but I'll take all suggestions and apply them when I can or when I remember. Thanks
Super fun video Fred! Great to see you fan girl over the Michigan rocks!
@@independencestnola It was fun for me as well. Amazing rocks I came into, as if delivered right to my door from Michigan. I doubt I'll ever make it there so it's so different than what I'm used to. I think working with them is going to have me out of my mind.
