"No bacon in my sandwich, if you please". Hmm...an acknowledgement to Morrissey being a vegan, I wonder? At any rate, great version of this tune. I love the whole vibe and feel of it. Very fun and lively. Been a Smiths/Morrissey fan since i discovered them (late) in 1986. Obviously Mr. Bragg is a fan as well. Dig it! Thank you, Billy! Well done, sir.

i think the thing is, i love his voice, but bragg doeesn't have a convientially "good" voice, unlike Morrissey. I do agree, I enjoyed his political spin on it as well as his tongue in cheek "no bacon in my sandwich if you please".
@@tendercomrade2330 I loved him up until the Don't try this at home album (1991) - I really struggled after that which is a shame as that album is in my top ten.
Well, the music wasn’t bad, it’s just that the vocals sound utterly horrific - like some drunkard in the pub on a Friday night! Now, I’m not saying Billy can’t sing a decent song, you only have to listen to “A New England” to see that, I’m just saying that this was unlistenable
I think that's what I mean by the Billy charm He's never been renowned for a great, conventional singing voice But I just love that he has the balls to sing a song by a singer who is so different to him

They shared many a stage in the 80's. Johnny Marr plays on and co-wrote a handful of songs will Bragg as well.
Thought that line made the song Billy's. Tough thing to do on a Smiths cover, huh?
@bigbadbillb Morrissey was a vegetarian at the time, not a vegan.
Goodbye goodnight to NATO. A lot of political stuff inside his songs.
bill + wiggy + cara tivey
Love this! And the lass on piano killed it!
Can’t believe I’ve never discovered this before!
I just said the same thing! What a fuckin legend!!!
why do people compare it to morrissey's version? it sounds good enough and sounds like his song. good cover
Because the Smiths version is better than this redo. that having been said Bragg does a great rendition of the Smith's - Jeane
Because Morrissey wrote the original lol
Billy Bragg opened for the Smiths when we saw them!
I bet he was a fun roll in the hay....
Seen him cover Panic too - tended to add the town he was gigging in - so saw Panic on the streets of Portsmouth
Never knew he covered this!!! 😜🤘
AS much as Love Billy and as much as I loath Morressey, the original is much better.
Great version..
FAB :)
well meaning tedium
Goodbye tomatoe
Dig it
Piel de gallina
Silence is nice !? Hmmm !
genuine question....does bill still believe we should take down NATO?
0:11 Spelled Morrissey's name incorrectly
at least they're not calling him Paul! ua-cam.com/video/_4dBzQOarEQ/v-deo.html (go to 19 seconds)
That's fking hilarious. Worst thing? I've seen that more than once and never even noticed!
Yeah but Morrissey can't spell 'cemetery'
Moz noted this atrocity
wow

That was terrible and I like him normally
Absolutely fantastic

Braggy is like a god. A man of the people. He did once receive a $1M advance. Nice to see virtue rewarded.
He also advocates medical apartheid
Not that nice really

Ghastly. He sounds like a drunk Paul Weller (even worse, actually) and butchers the chorus with his merciless grunts.
