- Laying under your legs or under a table or chair can protect your service dog from getting stepped on, rolled over, approached by children and other dogs, tripping others etc. Your personal space can provide an effective barrier to personal space invaders as well as give your assistance dog the needed space to relax while on duty or at rest. This is also the first step to train a service dog to lay in cramped spaces on transportation providers.

You are not only really effective at teaching dogs but also showing us how you do it. Thanks very much :D
You are welcome!
I used a treat lure and just say “out” as my release cue. It’s so cute when my SDiT checks in with me from under my chair😂❤️
After all these years, still it is a wonderfull video.
Thank you--this is the best demo of training this behavior I have seen! Your videos have helped me so much, and Lorenz, my service dog, is gaining confidence and consistency.
Thank you so much!! I have been diagnosed with PTSD and have been owner training since all of our money goes to my meds, and your videos help so much!

Oh wow, I didn't know you did online classes! I really appreciate your help, Donna.
Thank you for this. This will also help at food establishments
loved how you taught us how to keep your dog in the down position !! Very helpful video, exactly the type of help I've been searching so hard for :)
thanks :^) i’m training my service dog because we can’t afford to get a pre-trained one. we have about 4 months before school starts and this is the last thing he needs to learn
Great! I love to get my dog to sit or lie down in between my legs during times when I have to wait for someone when I bring her out for walks in the shopping mall so that people would not accidentally step on her. On several occasions, as she is a small chihuahua, people did not notice her and almost stepped on her which shocks her at times as she is looking at other places and did not realise that.
You have super practical videos., well done and thanks!
Hi Donny. I've really been enjoying your videos. I have a service dog, and I was wondering if you would consider making a video (s) on how to train a service dog to wake you up from a nightmare. it would really help me, and a lot of people I'm sure.
It's exactly the same same as the anxiety alert. The cue is you moving around in your bed and the alert behavior is the dog jumping on you, licking you or whatever behavior you want. Look for my video on that topic.
Donna Hill thank you very much
your amazing
Your channel is amazing
Glad you are enjoying it!
do you have a video about how to teach a release cue? I looked through your videos and couldn't fine one, I have taught mine to touch my fingers but not how to follow hand ques, do you have one like that?
I am not sure I understand the question. I use "Break" in place of the marker as a release cue if that's what you mean. For following hand cues, you can use a nose target and then shape the dog to follow it for short distances then add distance.
hi. i am wondering about the dog laying full on their side once in position.
my guy is so relaxed that he will flop eventually.
do we want our service dogs in a on the tummy position. or is it ok that he relaxs. he is still fully attentive to when i release. move, reward or signal.
thankyou.
+Slug Blume On his side is fine. We want them to be relaxed as they may be there for awhile.
thanks donna. and do you ask them not to groom and clean their junk while they are there working?
