I'm 60 and remember Ray Stevens songs "The Streak" and "Guitarzan" as a kid. He is so funny. Glad he's still performing and speaking the truth.

i will never forget back in the day when the streak was new and on the radio, my dad had just finished his shower as the song came on, my poor eyes have never been the same since that day....lol
I was a metal head back then, but my mom made me listen to country. Secretly I enjoyed Ray and a few others - lol.
He did a great performance years ago at the Georgia national fair in perry, ga. Gave it all he had contrary to other popular singers who treated their fans with less than their best performance. He gave 150%.

I listened to him on the local top 40 station in Mobile. They played Ahab the Arab. It was funny then and still is. This was around 1960 or 61 when I got my first transistor radio. He even did a promo for the station.

I think some don't realize amongst Ray's many hits he also sung the theme song to the movie Cannonball Run (you hear it right in the beginning of the film when the lambo is out running the cops)

I had no idea Ray Stevens was still active. Keep in mind that his first hit was in August 1961 (Jeremiah Peabody's Poly Unsaturated Quick Dissolving Fast Acting Pleasant Tasting Green And Purple Pills) and Ahab The Arab was his first major hit June 1962. This August (2024), that will be 63 years being active making and performing songs! Gitarzan was a big hit in April 1969 (I wasn't even a year old yet) and The Streak (April 1974) was a very memorable hit from the summer before I started first grade (Don't Look, Ethyl!). "Where The Sun Don't Shine" was a strange hit from 1982 that is rarely heard (I'll even rent a U-Haul to haul you all in...), but I remember the original recording of "Shriner's Convention" from 1980 before he rerecorded it removing the line "Whadda ya mean? It don't make no difference if she were sent over by the Knights of Columbus!" . "It's Me Again, Margaret" is one I just just heard again the other day. It's from 1983 and even though phone booths are a thing of the past, it's extremely funny. "Mississippi Squirrel Revival" is another favorite. He hit both charts (pop and country) and had such a wide variety of hits. Oh, I almost forgot about "The Dooright Family" from 1978 (Hush Mama, Virgil!). Such a great lifetime of songs.
