    Always nice to see some old school football/soccer gaming action never played this one myself speaking on 1986 world cup it was the first time Canada qualified. This game for its time looks alright nice share mate 😊😊

      Cheers buddy yeah it's probably one of those that back in the day I'd have played a lot and got the hang of it, but when you've gotten used to the great new game it makes these ones a little harder to persevere with. Canada have a couple of top class players right now so maybe 2026 with some home games will be great times

    Remember this on the speccy; perhaps the first computer football title I ever played and I loved it. Always helps when the ball sticks to the players’ feet haha.
    Have a great weekend.

      Cheers Ed, I definitely had the other Italy 90 game which I played a lot - I never got to grips with Kick Off and it's non-sticky balls 😂😅

    I was 4 or 5 during that World Cup so vaguely remember it but I recall loads of neighbours an communities in Dublin going crazy whenever Ireland got a half decent result haha, well played Richard the USA robbed you there, a phantom goals and only half a match played, that ref was mad on his whistle as well.😂 Nice video buddy.🕹⚽️🌍🍀

      Ah yeah Irelands first world cup I think - and a quarter final place. I think it was Pat Bonner in goal saving penalties by just standing still, but that might have been 92 🤔👴 This isn't one of the best footy games, but it'd probably be ok after a bit of practice.

      Aye beaten 1 nill by the hosts in the quarters I believe, so many Irish footy fans get very nostalgic for that era. Personally I really enjoy watching international football but in my lifetime Ireland have been mostly painful to watch, wish we stuck with Stephen Kenny(despite the poor results) an let him slowly but surely get us playing some decent positive football. Alas it wasn't meant to be and reckon we will be very poor for a good while to come.⚽️🌍🍀

      @@Pjvenom1985 you've had some great players over the years mate, I'm sure it'll swing round again. I remember England not qualifying for major tournaments and it was hard to take. Also the Capello period where we got results but sent the crowd to sleep at the same time 🥱

      Definitely had some great players an went for that hard to beat long ball style, like you say during your Capello period even though Ireland got results back then I found it painful to watch as that negative play just isn't not my cup on tae.☕️ But hopefully we'll get back to some half decent performances soon.🤞 You guys have been dangerous for a good while now just can't get over the line silverware wise unfortunately.⚽️🌍🏆🍀

    Talking of Mexico 86, you should try Peter Shilton’s Handball Maradona

    Not sure what to make of this, I mean its a near 35 year old game and football games have come so far since then. Mind you it was only 3 years after th8s we got the first FIFA game so things were already quickly moving. Track down Italy 1990 (the US Gold one), think it may be a bit more playable than this. I revisited Microprose Soccer in the last 2 years, its not aged brilliantly. Emlyn Hughes is the one to go to snd see how that plays, that for me was the kimg of C64 footie games back then 😊👍🐻

      Honestly mate I thought this and the US Gold game were the same until I loaded it up. There's quite a lot of ambition in this, but I didn't enjoy it too much - I think it's because as you said the footy games moved on at a rapid pace really - SWOS on the Amiga was a real favourite and then FIFA on the SNES etc. I remember liking Emlyn Hughes and the Peter Beardsley one back in the day. I might just play them all on one vid to get them out of the way 😂

    Not the greatest mate but with a bit of practice it might be decent. Roger Millar was class to watch and it was a great tournament mate 🙂👍

    • @retrotap
      @retrotap  27 днів тому +1

      Yeah he was great mate, his little dance when he scored and he looked older than my grandad but still banged 'em in. You're right about the game, needs more practice to get used to it.

      😂 yeah I probably ought to play more matches before I condemn it to the bin but it didn't grab me much. I'm finding most of the old footy games pretty bad so far tbh.

  • @retroimportgamer513
    @retroimportgamer513 28 днів тому +3

    Well you played this for longer than I could have done🤣
    Looks fairly terrible but not sure any footie game from this era has aged well at all, don't think these kind of things is where the micros shine, was good at the time as there was nothing better but not aged anything like as well as a single screen game for instance 👍

    • @retrotap
      @retrotap  28 днів тому +1

      Honestly mate Ive always loved football games and have sought them out on every system I've had but every time I revisit them on the older systems I'm disappointed. You're right about the classic arcade style games, they still feel and play great for the most part.

  • @Tetlee
    @Tetlee 26 днів тому +1

    This doesn't look bad at all Richard, although bloomin tough to score a goal by the looks of things.
    I actually have this, came bundled with my Speccy that I bought a few years ago but I stored it away somewhere as was pretty sure it'd be crap😂(from what I've read the Speccy port really was).

    • @retrotap
      @retrotap  26 днів тому +1

      Yeah I didn't click with it really mate but maybe if I persevered and got the knack it'd be a good footy game - problem I'm finding is wanting to spend the time getting to grips with them when there are footy games that are sooooo much better on most of the later systems.
      Having said that I've still got a load of footy games on the C64 to work through 😅

    • @retrotap

      I agree mate it's not the best footy game - might be better if you sink some hours into it to get good but I'm not going to do that 😅 Ah Gullit - what a player he was, that Dutch team that won the 88 euros were amazing.
