I had a high school girlfriend for 5 years (plus one year after of on and off), and when we broke up, this song fucked me up. Because it was one of the first songs she ever introduced to me as freshmen. It was unbearably painful to hear while dealing with severe depression. A few years later after we ended, I got the courage to listen to it again. Instead of crying sad tears, they were happy tears. I had to let go and accept that it was meant to be, but I can always hold onto and revisit those memories whenever I chose to, without getting fucked up again. This song is a definite example of life being bittersweet. I love it.
