Why are there 2 spellings Sharbel and Charbel? Also, great presentation. I think of Christ actually having 8 wounds, not 6. The 5 we know, the 6th wound of the shoulder from carrying the Cross (as you point out), the Crown of Thorns and the Scourging on his back (multiple wounds, but I will sum it up as the “back wounds”.) Some history suggests he was Scourged 39 times, as 4O often killed a man.

I beg your pardon… the original spelling as noted in the earliest prayers for his beatification is SHARBEL. It was not until after 1950’s that they use CHARBEL , as this is the French way to spell it. Both are acceptable. ( by the way I am Lebanese as well. Also, director of the new Saint SHARBEL Spiritual Life Center in Pittsburgh, PA, under the direction of The Eparchy of Brooklyn.
