Hi buddy!! Thank you for your amazing content! You and I have been at this a while,( much more you than I). While I was working at a flyshop, I could afford some amazing rigs. One of the things I love about you is that you know "life in the cheap lane", AND some finer products, such as the reel in this video. I was always a go to Sage fan, for rods. Love their warranty. As far as reels I would Love anything Abel puts out. ALL American made. I visited their facility when it was in Camarillo . Every screw, every component was made in America, by Americans. Cost was always an issue, because they are hilariously expensive. So, in the spirit of this question, For those on a budget; if you can find an old Super 8 it will live long after your gone, balance your rod and line and give you an amazing drag (if that's something you want) . I don't know the newer reels as well , but they continue to expand, and develop their technology. Did I say American Made? Love ya brother, and I remember the days when we could only afford the simplest of second hand gear. Yet here we are with better choices! Awesome, keep bringing ALL of the content you get ahold of. I listen to every word. We all do! You are amazing, I listen, I laugh, I learn, I watch for your content always. I hope you prosper in all of these amazing vids.
I have the same reel and use on my 12’6” 8wt and my 15, and 15’1 8 wt and balances all them great. I have over 20 vintage hardy reels assortment of mostly Perfects, five or six Bougle, a few St. George’s. The interesting thing is the tension is all different even on the same models and sizes. As an example, my 3.3/4 MKVI Bougle Has more drag than the number four Salmon. Also found that some of the older trout size perfect with the agate line guard also have strong drag systems. Old Hardies are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get to quote one of my favorite movies. Like a videos keep them coming
Hey buddy! Great vid as always and thank you! I just got a 4" Bougle; it's a brand new one so it doesn't say MKIV or anything on it, but does say made in England. Delayed Christmas gift from wifey. So, I took it for a spin right before getting Covid and caught a chromer hen about 6 lbs. What freaked me out just a little was: no exposed rim to palm it, and then of course no drag to speak of. So I kind of kept the line in the fingers of my rod hand to add drag, which kind of worked. I may try to pinch the inside of the spool if I get lucky and catch another one with this rod. I do love the reel though; it has mojo, and that's worth more than anything ! Keep up the great work!
You can get a stiff spring from Archuleta that will slow down the drag and make it sound like a machine gun, yes, fingers on the inside of the spool?!! Congrats on the Chrome!
Congrats on your new reel Tim! I’ve owned a wack of reels including the Hardy perfect 4” and 4 1/4”. Now I just use my Hardy Marquis salmon 2 and Orvis V clicker and a Cubalaya Fair Chase clicker, all are blue collar reels that just work for me. I would like to get my hands on a Sage 509 though.
Thanks buddy! I gotta check those reels out. I like my old J W Young made reels. Great blue Collar reels that I trust 100% This includes my Shakespeare Boulite and J W Young 1540…love my little Maxcatch 3/4 for trout Spey. So many others have flat let me down.
One day I'll give commentary on my perceptions regarding cutting back a beard and watching it grow back. I've done so, many times. But for now Sir allow me to thank you, to express my gratitude that you share this so very helpful information
Hardy perfects are absolutely amazing and beautiful…they are pricey but it’s an heirloom to be passed down. I have three and I want another or I was thinking of getting a Cascapedia.
Ok Tim ! Does this mean the max catch reel are out ? The Hardy reels are sweet for sure and the price reflects it. I have been eyeing the marquis with clock and rim control! Would be interested in your thoughts, in Flordia now and fishing the salt, back to the north west in December can’t wait to try this skagit thing out Thanks Dick🎣😎
Max catch is good if you’re on a budget for sure. JW Young for inexpensive used reels, I’ve had too much grief with other budget to mid priced reels. Love my Bouglets! Marquis might be cool. Though! Do your research and let me know what you learn!
Hardys are the shit! Bought several of them and will continue LOL I got a lot of bling bling disc drag reels but for now I am all in for those click check reels. Put my fly fishing to a total new level. It´s just more puristic.
@@LineSpeedJediTimRawlins I watch your channel for tips all the time. Been a 2 handed caster for 6 years. Twice a week on the Rogue. Trout spey is awesome too. Keep up the good work! TM (PS just put a 3.5 Bougle on my 11.3 trout spey with 270 grn)
All bouglé and perfect are made in alnwich ...all of them ..the cascapedia was made in koreafor à couple years but they re back in england...the rest of hardy are made in korea ...

Looking forward to it!
Hi Jedi, what would be your all-time favourite reel for a 16' Gaelforce with a long line?
Big Hardy perfect with Archuleta spring and round line guard. Best Budget reel? JW Young 1540 hands down!
Hardy perfects are absolutely amazing and beautiful…they are pricey but it’s an heirloom to be passed down. I have three and I want another or I was thinking of getting a Cascapedia.
Oooooo! Sounds like a plan!!!👍🏻

They're nice reels for sure
How about using whichever reel you can afford and like. 😊
Oh, I didn’t say I could afford it. 🤣But when it’s a priority, I have my ways!
Hardys are the shit! Bought several of them and will continue LOL

Love Bougle’
When you say multiplier, that could mean a few different things, can you be more specific?
It’s basically gears inside the real housing that make it reel in faster. Never used one but I like the idea.

🙏 Thanks! Will definitely check it out!
