Sometimes, you just blow my pea-pickin' mind. I love that you're always pushing the envelope. The other benefit of keeping that hardneck garlic in the ground - is the shorter shelf life. So rather than harvesting and letting it go bad, ergo useless, leave it - and regrow. Also - haven't done justice to Tuck. What a heart dog, garden guardian hero. I LOVE seeing him. Thanks JP.

The longer you grow the same garlic in progressive yrs the more acclimated it becomes, just like saving seed. Same for bunching onions. It's common sense not rocket science. Yes I've been growing plants 50+ yrs . Mulch well, fertilize properly and water well in the spring and early summer.

Covered the bed with a layer of compost and a layer of wood chips, and just eft them to their own. Four months and a couple good snowstorms later, I've got about 40 garlic plants coming up.
Maybe I'll pick up some good seed garlic this year, but for now I'm just tickled to be getting some decent results for my efforts. And yes, I live in a northern area, so the softneck garlic from the store was perfect at this stage.

Awesome video! Watching this now in March, but I feel like I followed your guidelines already last November when we planted our first ever garlic. Covering it with leaves, using fertilized soil and all that.. I really hope that we get something out of it. We've had -23 degrees Celcius (-10F) this winter and I hope that hasn't hurt the cloves. Normally we don't have that cold, but of course the weather hit extremes when we started our garden 😂😋

Hey there! I have 2 quick questions, but first I wanted to share that I love your videos! I've been watching them for over a year now. I love they way you convey the information you are providing to your viewers. You deliver it in a way that is straight forward and avoids confusion for the viewer. Some channels that do similar content seem to leave holes in the information they are providing, which leaves the viewers with more questions. So thank you for being thorough! Also, Tuck is so adorable, and I love that he makes appearances in all of your videos! Such a cutie! My first question is, when planting cloves in the fall for a harvest the following late spring or early summer, is it necessary to water them throughout the winter at all (and if so, how often),, or do you not water them? If you have shared this info, somehow I missed it, and I'm sure that if I want to have it succeed, I need to do this the right way. My second question is, can the fall planting of cloves be achieved in a raised bed or will that cause them to get and stay too cold during the winter, and kill them? Thank you!

James can you please explain what month of the season you are talking about in your videos for people in other parts of the world. if you say late November early December, I've then got to go and find out which part of which season it is in jersey to work out when that time of the year it will be in Australia, thanks mate, I really appreciate and love your videos, I'm always telling my friends and family what you and Tuck are up to ❤

Walmart & Publix jacked up the price of garlic to nearly $6.00 per lb.. So, this is a great way to save a lot!

So, I had to do this with my garlic. I thought I'd gotten all my garlic out of the ground but I had so many sprouting. I transplanted about 75 and then had 18 music and 30 purple glazer that I'd purchased to start this season.

Hi James, your videos have helped me and inspired me to start gardening more intensively than I ever have, and I have been loving it! I so much appreciate your clear delivery and enthusiasm! I am in zone 6a, and I'm hoping you will answer a question for me. I have never used row cover or greenhouse plastic before, but I have put up hoops on 2 of my raised beds and am ready to continue growing as long as possible. I am growing kale, arugula, cold-hardy lettuces, tat soi, spinach, mizuna and mache. But I cannot find any guidelines on when row cover is appropriate and when I should switch to plastic cover! Do I go by temperatures, and if so what temperatures? If not by temperatures, then how do I know which to use when? Right now one has insect netting on it and the other is uncovered. Help, please!! I would so much appreciate it! And many thanks to Tuck too - he is the inspiration for my newest dog, a sweet little terrier who is also Guardian of the Garden! xoxoxo Jemm

❤❤❤ I love growing garlic and I’ve been growing it for about 15 years….so of course I had to watch this video. You are right….the price of seed garlic is getting crazy! I do like variety but I’m going o stick with what I originally bought at the Garlic Farm. Last year I started adding fertilizer at planting and the bulbs were considerably larger. Of course the season factors into the equation and I have good soil so I never really thought I needed to add much but why not improve if you can? I love experimenting so I may try your method next year. The bulb you have growing in your soil looks very close to the surface…was the bulb initially buried 3-4 inches deep and you removed all top growth until it resprouted? Or did you pull the bulb and replant it near surface? Thanks for sharing. ❤
