in baseball the 2nd baseman is known as the 4 position. Hence a 6-4-3 double play... is the SS -->2nd --> 1st. the 4 hole is the area between the setup of the 2nd baseman and the set up of the 1st baseman
What's the point of first touching the bag with the left foot, before switching to the right (for a right-handed first baseman)? Is this supposed to just set up a more balanced rotation to face the chest to the thrower?
I think it forces you to stay facing the play and/or home plate. If you go straight to the bag with your right foot (as he did once in the video) you might turn your back to the ball.
This guy has great baseball language and can talk a great talk, but coming from a first baseman that has had a coach who played for the Detroit tigers(the major league team not their minor league team) u never want to go for the bag first... it is so much easier to field the ball then tag the bag because... NOT EVERY THROW IS GOING TO BE AT UR CHEST AND THAS WHAT HE IS TRAINING THE TEENAGERS AND KIDS.... he is setting these kids up to fail
But then a hit up the line you will never get, plus a faster runner and he's safe every time because you're running to the base longer, not very smart.
Mystical Murray not necessarily true. You can't have a lazy player doing this and if you teach your players how to play angles they could get to a shot up the line. in most cases if the coach or player notices a RHB is late to the ball they will/should make an adjustment similar to playing a lefty batter. Players aren't robots they have to be taught and have to think as well.
You talked about the 4 hole I'm new so my question is how many holes are there and where are they located between the bases?
