Don't forget the times when you called other roles but they instalock that role and feed later.. then they blame you.. then spam vgs and f6 at 10 Dang i just summarized my 1 year experience with smite
honestly at this point I just pick offensive Guardians or Ganesha unless I’m going for worshippers. It’s fun to pick up a Bacchus or Kumbha just to end up doing the most work on your team
I've been playing Guam Yu support for a while and it has been working very well, I find having a Neith or any carry that has a decent amount of CC helps, the ultimate helps to engage and disengage from fights as well as being a surprise amount of CC in your kit, the slow from your dash and the heal from your 2 makes Guan Yu a very strange but fun support in the current meta
I don't know how long you've been playing but I think he was actually like the best support for a little stretch in season 3 while still being a good solo pick and now absolutely no one touches him
dyndo101 I only picked Smite up last year, I didn't play a lot of conquest back then, but I do remember seeing him in that roll in the past, and it seems like no one thinks of him, you're absolutely right he works well in both rolls, I like playing him now especially where many people are playing guardians in solo, in which case I can rotate into solo if they are feeding and vice versa, but the last game I played I didn't die once as Guan Yu and was almost as fed as my Carry
what makes a good support?.. selflessness and awareness.. now as far as what gods to use?.. anyone with a decent CC, or is somewhat tanky, or has some heals, can be a good support.. nox, fenrir, most warriors, ofcourse all guardians.. almost any god can be used for almost anyrole (ofcourse there are exceptions).. it all depends on whether the player knows what he or she is doing and knows how to utilize the kit to its maximum potential for said role...
One passive on a support I want: any ability / basic attack which passes through this god deals a % less to allies. Body blocking is so important but with so many abilities going through gods it just makes it better for you to try and body block :(
The thing is most basics and alot of abilities stop on the first target so body blocking does come in handy if you know what the enemy has :D Also fat loki does have 5% damage reduction aura
To me, being a good support is being able to save your teammates when they get in to stupid teamfights that they shouldn't have started... Which I never do, cuz they started it and they themselves should settle it. I would help, if the fight is actually worth something. Edit: didn't know that this was about what gods need to be a good support... Lots of lockdown, I guess?
sean choy I do not have many characters as I am new but when I play with my friends I make sure to cut off anyone chasing them while they are low, or I freeze them.
Support is there to make sure he and the team remains alive. Most of the time the support job is to PEEL for his team using his CC. It is NOT to frontline and hope the rest of the team in the back is doing fine, that's the solo laners job. Yeah you're building tanky most of the times playing the support role and that's because if someone gets in the backline to kill the carries SOMEONE has to be able to take the aggro to allow the carries to disengage.
A lot of supports have better engages than warriors though so really your team should look like adc and mid behind the support while the jungle and solo try to dive backline while your support tries to setup your carries from the front of their team
jean-sébastien dubé EXACTLY! My god dude somebody has said it! You just cannot have a warrior peeling your backline. It just doesn't work because most guardians have that instant CC that shuts down assasins like kali, thana and like almost all of them. This way you can burn their beads of force them to ult if said ult is an escape like thana
@Lee McDonald Sylvanus blink ult is some of the best setup in the game. Bacchus setup is more just around the damage he brings his flop is okay but still way worse than a big Sylv ult
I love support but i also love playing very unconvenient like support style with scylla, awlix baset serquet warriors like chac etc heck even hunter though i do try to match what my yeam needs maybe im just a weird player but ever since i played league of legends. ive alway been support even with high damage champs/gods like the gods i named above. id say only role u cant play every god on is jungle cause clear matters alot does this make me weird i do try my best thinking what my team needs and where im needed
One of the other things which is becoming more important is the mobility of a god when working as a support. It's the one big crux that keeps Sylvanus is check as he isn't able to get in or out easily outside of blink or walking it
I initially started playing guardians because i wasn't great so the extra tank really helped. now? I love playing support. one of the most fun things for me is picking khepri and letting my buddy who mains assasins dive crazy hard to get a kill under tower and dropping a rez on him to bring him back to safety. if i can make your job harder and my team's job easier then good i've done my job. i measure my effectiveness in assists not in kills. though my ganesha does have 35 kills : ) I really enjoy seeing the enemy team stack up and execute a plan only to jump in the middle and knock that plan out of wack. before the tweek kuzenbo's ult was amazing at that. pushing them around while knocking them up got people so out of position now it's just an inconvenience.
What makes a good support is a smart player. Some gods definitely work better than others without a doubt, but it doesn't matter if the player doesn't know how to use them or if they don't have at the very least a basic understanding of strategy.
Pietro Portone Exactly. I definitely consider building and counter building as part of strategy and knowing how to use whichever god you prefer. Not much more discouraging than seeing a blatantly terrible build.
Sometimes it can be fun to basically not have a support at all, instead having a 2nd jungler that happens to start in duo lane. This is basically what you end up doing if you were to try playing an assassin "support" that can't afford to build tanky (like Bakasura).
Thank you. Think lot people need to know what crow control do, disarm, silence. Got to long rank games and warrior or guardian don't do their job disarming the enemy team or pushing forward .
Funny that you should mention isis in the support role, I tried her out in the solo lane and my team shit on me needless to say I carried, could you do a video on what makes a god viable in the solo lane?
How to support 1- max the size of your minimap 2- ward 3- be kind 4- have leadership for objetives 5- be smart to guide the team 6- "i dont care about getting kills for me" attitude 7- love the geb 8- understand rick and morty references 9- dont care about teammates bming you 10- watch dukesloth
To me, IMHO, a good support has to excel in both crowd control, and then either tankiness or just general damage mitigation (heals, shields, defensive auras). Early game, their whole point is to keep your squishy ally alive because they will always over-estimate their abilities and skill and get into trouble. I main support, and not exactly by choice. Usually I go with Guardians, but I occasionally throw Aphrodite or a Warrior in there. Chang'e is NOT a strong support, and is extremely reliant on her heal and aura items to even be remotely effective. You also pretty much HAVE to build Gem of Isolation to make up for her weak-sauce crowd control (only on her ult). That said, Lotus Crown is probably more useful on her than on any other God.
Yeah I’ve done things like Raijin Support because of how much cc he’s got, Serqet Support works but you have to be really good with the passive procs and the madness ability, Susano Support wouldn’t work because, like Mr. Sloth said, two cc abilities but ones a knock up that’s on his ult and the other one is a really good pull(that would be good on an actual Support character, Hi-Rez plz)
I was playing as support but a guy was on mic (this is ranked mind you) and he was the carry, he criticized me for multiple things some that weren't that big, this caused me to be afraid of every move I make, he got mad at me for farming both mid and left lane but he insisted solo was meant for one god vs one god, this caused me to be multiple levels behind. I felt like I was dazed.. I haven't played ranked ever since
What we need is a guardian with a max health self heal. 5% for 4 seconds sounds fair, since antiheal is not difficult to acquire. Just something to replace Hades, since people insist on the foolishness of building him bruiser or mage. Been thinking Seth would make a good opportunity for it.
youve forgot 2 important tasks or abilities ... 1. ability to initiate 2. ability to intercept sometimes an interceptor is much more of use ... if enemy team plays offensive xd to assassin kind chars .. then those are great ... if the enemy moretheless trust in escape and damage tactics ... then once theyre ahead you need to have a char who can hold them on position or even repositionates them thats why ymir and ganesha may are great guardians ... or suck theyre great at interception but initiation is bad other way round xing tien for example thats why susano is such a capable assasin ... he is not pressed to kill himself ... its enough if he brings enemy weak spotts ( mages and assassins) in range of gods which may shut them down if those targets arent covered anymore its of course about attributes ... but for tactics its more about roles gods can be used in and for that you cant categorize gods by tank mage assassin hunter or warrior but by those 2 up ... and for therer are so much gods .... its always luck to create a god conter team :)
No Nike? Team buff in passive, a knock up (the leap), an hp5 passive in an ability, and a silence with the third hit of rend (with PoA up). Is she a good support?
DHG Serpentine it isn't a silence, it's a disarm. She isn't really viable unfortunately. Her only lock down outside of her ult (which is just a slow) is her knock up which also means sacrificing her escape.
I think she's a decent support, she lacks a little bit in the hard CC department as she's so hardcountered by sprint. If that wasn't the case, she'd be a lot more viable there.
Scylla was the first support I ever played. Isis was the second. Isis passive + heartward + sovereignty = everyone on your team is xing tian with Gaia.
so explain to me this: Ymir has a stun, 2 slows and an area modifier and is considered a tank, while Loki has a stun, a slow, a dmg mitigation, a speed buff and an area modifier and is considered a bad tank? why tho? xD
Kay N Because loki cannot frontline, even if you build a Loki full tank it will not matter because on how you play loki overall. Basically leaving your team exposed to attacks leaving the warrior as the real frontliner but then you know what happens? The jungler dives the backline and that's gameover right there. You may use your ult on the carry or mage but then what? Exactly nothing. Either your team will luckily follow up but at the cost of probably one teammate or you just get rolled over because they see loki behind and since you would want to be a semi front liner you build him tanky so no damage. See where this is going? Loki support just doesnt work. Loki is already not that effective during teamfights with a full power pen build. Just imagine with full tank.
I realize I stopped playing support with my Smite partner because he is very aggro and plays in front of me so that leaves me in other roles but when I play without him I play support
Support role is to be a sponge and annoying, nonetheless support the team in every aspect. The support should at the end of every game have accomplished :Most damage mitigation, most assists, most wards place, and maybe most healing
Lucas Strickland I've tried it and it's actually pretty good as long as you land your abilities very often. Play safe in the early and spam the ring bounce. Once you have some defense his CC abilities become amazing set up
Tbh, even scylla has a better lock down kit then Hades, Considering She has her 1, that can Root 3 oponents, her 2 that removes protections and her 3 works like a mini ward, at the cost of your escape... Hades brings early game pressure and decent heal to close teammates, other then that, his 2 is annoying, but not really powerfull enough to be picked over even Isis!
His ult has potential to be good but if you have a leap you don't even have to beads to avoid it unlike an ares ult for example which still ends with the whole enemy team in one nice neat circle
I was so sad watching the game play and how geb is a huge counter to fenrir interrupt the 3 and pretty much negated his ult with the cleanse but I didnt see that :/
For all geb players wait for the fenfir to start his 3 and use your 2 and bait the fenfir ult if you can let your teammate get hit with the fenrir ult and you can almost instantly cleanse him without even getting displaced in anyway
Nico Rodriguez depends on the teammates and comp. If you aren't too confident in your carry Khepri is very helpful but in a team fight he isn't as good as say Geb or Ganesha.
I personally never think of bacchus as damage like ares yea ymir yea but the only time bacchus really ever hurts me is when I see he's building like a mage anyways so I don't see where people are coming from with that
good support need reliable cc imo, i saw some assassin taking support role and do well just because they have cc, like thor, fenrir other skills that encourages defensive or offensive playstyle like buffs or debuffs make them stronger, but the cc is the main point for me
Also, still like Neith support. Heal, strong aoe root, slow even an attack speed slow. Couple in a global stjn that's not too bad now is it! Your level 1 gives you a strong push potential which can help snowball your late game hunter into a lead.
Video title should read " Basic understanding of abilities in Smite" This has little to do with support gods except your constant mention of the word support. Duke - you don't even rank do you?
“What makes a good support” A player who isnt kill hungry and actually cares and makes sure his team is healthy while also not feeding their brains out. I run into so many people who play warriors and gaurdians who tower dive and kill steal and all the get is 1 item done. the team cant do anything if the support has all the gold. Oh yeah you know it would of been nice for you mage or adc to finish their stacks or stacking item so they can get more power but no. you have a support or all tank warrior with 10 kills and only has Breastplate and void stone. And everyone else on the team has like 2-3 deaths because they are behind
In my opinion that's something wrong with the game... And they kind of address that with Ganesh. It's like you want people to play these tanks and not get kills so anyone else can get gold, however the tank kits are some of them anyway very deadly so basically... Pull punches? Not minions but the kills themselves. I think if the Ganesh passive was just unilaterally applied to all Guardians in the conquest we would have more Guardians because no one is getting gimped when they get kills. They are straight-up not on the same scale like in MMOs
This video is a bit streched out, could have been much shorter, for example;

Nice video Duke!
The Mercanari lmao best comment 10/10. You need the pin.
Would've made sure to make the OHM last 20 minutes
Yeah you surely play support if you pick Ganesha - fail.
My most roles played is support. Why? Because all of the classes get insta locked leaving me with guardian in every match.
Don't forget the times when you called other roles but they instalock that role and feed later.. then they blame you.. then spam vgs and f6 at 10
Dang i just summarized my 1 year experience with smite
Gwgitu77
Same here. Fkin 2015
One of the many reasons I hate conquest
I’m a support main because most people I play with are mechanically decent, but suck at macro. 😒
honestly at this point I just pick offensive Guardians or Ganesha unless I’m going for worshippers. It’s fun to pick up a Bacchus or Kumbha just to end up doing the most work on your team
You've made a certain Khepri main very happy today.
who is that khepri main?
Khepri all day
Recently I got called out for being a bad support for being 1/4/16 with Ganesha. Average Smite game in a nutshell.
Jakob Jan Kamminga Well yea you had 1 kill how could you do this
Support isnt about your stats its about the stats of the team are important nice if ya just died 4 times but how much did the carry died xD
ok but what did you do in the game, did you defend your team and support them
Always excited for great ideas and discussion, especially when it comes to Support. This video's going to be a good one!
I've been playing Guam Yu support for a while and it has been working very well, I find having a Neith or any carry that has a decent amount of CC helps, the ultimate helps to engage and disengage from fights as well as being a surprise amount of CC in your kit, the slow from your dash and the heal from your 2 makes Guan Yu a very strange but fun support in the current meta

sean choy I do not have many characters as I am new but when I play with my friends I make sure to cut off anyone chasing them while they are low, or I freeze them.
Always love your reviews for different topics. Always informational and I enjoy them.
Well I just play ymir and blow my opponents up.
Edward Fontaine Ymir go boom💥

Doesn't Khumbakarna deserve a spot or at least a mention in the revive portion of the video? (His passive)
Good video :) would have been nice to have a few example of why specific God's kits work for support. But good video
What makes a good support is a smart player. Some gods definitely work better than others without a doubt, but it doesn't matter if the player doesn't know how to use them or if they don't have at the very least a basic understanding of strategy.
B1G Mike Also building. There is no " official " build for supports. Its not like hunters which remains the same.
Pietro Portone Exactly. I definitely consider building and counter building as part of strategy and knowing how to use whichever god you prefer. Not much more discouraging than seeing a blatantly terrible build.
Why wasn’t Fenrir Sup mentioned. Thats my Favorite non guardian support
Sometimes it can be fun to basically not have a support at all, instead having a 2nd jungler that happens to start in duo lane. This is basically what you end up doing if you were to try playing an assassin "support" that can't afford to build tanky (like Bakasura).
Do you have a video on how true damage works on items and Gods?
Ignores all protections but not damage mitigation.
Thank you. Think lot people need to know what crow control do, disarm, silence. Got to long rank games and warrior or guardian don't do their job disarming the enemy team or pushing forward .
Duke can you make a vid on whatever happened to vamana?
Funny that you should mention isis in the support role, I tried her out in the solo lane and my team shit on me needless to say I carried, could you do a video on what makes a god viable in the solo lane?
Being tanky and being able to frontline.
The best crowd Control is death. So you should Pick a Guardian who has got some aoe death in his kit
How to support
1- max the size of your minimap
2- ward
3- be kind
4- have leadership for objetives
5- be smart to guide the team
6- "i dont care about getting kills for me" attitude
7- love the geb
8- understand rick and morty references
9- dont care about teammates bming you
10- watch dukesloth
agree with 2,3,4,5,6,7,10 i main support but cant play geb xD his rollout is so tricky
How to support
1-play loki
FroggyGaming how to support:
1. Sylvanus
2. All team protection items
3. Max heal
4. Stare at your carry in case he gets attacked, then Ult
5. Win
How to be anybody else:
1.Play badly
2.Blame the support if you die/lose
To me, IMHO, a good support has to excel in both crowd control, and then either tankiness or just general damage mitigation (heals, shields, defensive auras). Early game, their whole point is to keep your squishy ally alive because they will always over-estimate their abilities and skill and get into trouble. I main support, and not exactly by choice. 5:20 What about Cabrakan :(
Hey, u mentioned janus relatively often, do u think he is viable?
Peel,
Frontline Pressure,
Ability to counter initiate,
Tankiness,
CC,
Versatility
cabraken needs more love in the right hands he is a monster.
Not really.
Absolutely! He can be very annoying and with a well coordinated team he can be very dangerous.
DukeSloth how do i know what is a good build on certain gods?
Experience.
was ares jungle or solo?
I was playing as support but a guy was on mic (this is ranked mind you) and he was the carry, he criticized me for multiple things some that weren't that big, this caused me to be afraid of every move I make, he got mad at me for farming both mid and left lane but he insisted solo was meant for one god vs one god, this caused me to be multiple levels behind. I felt like I was dazed.. I haven't played ranked ever since

Just something to replace Hades, since people insist on the foolishness of building him bruiser or mage.
Been thinking Seth would make a good opportunity for it.
Hades hasn't been played as a support for like 2 years now it's time to move on
dyndo101
I'm sorry, but I still play Hades support. Tall to me later, though.
youve forgot 2 important tasks or abilities ...
1. ability to initiate
2. ability to intercept
sometimes an interceptor is much more of use ... if enemy team plays offensive xd to assassin kind chars ..
then those are great ...
if the enemy moretheless trust in escape and damage tactics ... then once theyre ahead you need to have a char who can hold them on position or even repositionates them
thats why ymir and ganesha may are great guardians ... or suck
theyre great at interception
but initiation is bad
other way round xing tien for example
thats why susano is such a capable assasin ... he is not pressed to kill himself ... its enough if he brings enemy weak spotts ( mages and assassins) in range of gods which may shut them down if those targets arent covered anymore
its of course about attributes ... but for tactics its more about roles gods can be used in
and for that you cant categorize gods by tank mage assassin hunter or warrior
but by those 2 up ...
and for therer are so much gods .... its always luck to create a god conter team :)
No Nike? Team buff in passive, a knock up (the leap), an hp5 passive in an ability, and a silence with the third hit of rend (with PoA up). Is she a good support?

Just mention a mercury as jungler woulde he be overpowered as son nike got 1 passiv quest xD
I knew I was not too far from using Isis support, I just have to wait until a Ravana jung comes around or some shit like that.
Yeah bro, when I get back, ares damage build, cheers
Also at age 19 I think I need to schedule an appointment with my doctor early
Scylla was the first support I ever played. Isis was the second.
Isis passive + heartward + sovereignty = everyone on your team is xing tian with Gaia.
so explain to me this: Ymir has a stun, 2 slows and an area modifier and is considered a tank, while Loki has a stun, a slow, a dmg mitigation, a speed buff and an area modifier and is considered a bad tank? why tho? xD
Kay N probably because loki only has single target cc and ymir can stun more enemies at the time for example
Kay N Because loki cannot frontline, even if you build a Loki full tank it will not matter because on how you play loki overall. What do you think about playing Discordia Support? Have you tried it yet?
I realize I stopped playing support with my Smite partner because he is very aggro and plays in front of me so that leaves me in other roles but when I play without him I play support
Druid Stone seems like it should have been a tier 2 Geb skin, not an exclusive one.
Support role is to be a sponge and annoying, nonetheless support the team in every aspect. The support should at the end of every game have accomplished :Most damage mitigation, most assists, most wards place, and maybe most healing
Main geb when you support he’s so calm to play literally no skill required really
Thoughts on Ne Zha? Anyone? Just curious.
Lucas Strickland I've tried it and it's actually pretty good as long as you land your abilities very often. Play safe in the early and spam the ring bounce. Once you have some defense his CC abilities become amazing set up
His 3 can stun targets or peel for your team but that's all he has. Could work in pubs, not gonna work in ranked.
jean-sebastian dube and his ult is a damaging banish that allows for easy follow up from every god in the game same reason kumbha ult is good
4:36 three years later we get Heimdallr lmao
I started playing Ganesh around 3 weeks ago I'm good rank 9 and I have 32 kills and over 1000 assists XD
Hades is the best mage support, build him tanky and he’s got everything you need
He used to be a guardian until Hirez realised noone built him as a guardian because he can't lock people down long/well enough to support. xD
I was so sad watching the game play and how geb is a huge counter to fenrir interrupt the 3 and pretty much negated his ult with the cleanse but I didnt see that :/
For all geb players wait for the fenfir to start his 3 and use your 2 and bait the fenfir ult if you can let your teammate get hit with the fenrir ult and you can almost instantly cleanse him without even getting displaced in anyway
best tanky support?
Nico Rodriguez depends on the teammates and comp. If you aren't too confident in your carry Khepri is very helpful but in a team fight he isn't as good as say Geb or Ganesha.
So what you're saying is chiron support is a thing >B)
Great stuff
A good suppoort can one shot the enemy carries then run back to thier carry to before thier support/assasain kills your carry.
"Damagy" - dukesloth 2017
brb trying Janus support
these video is like Geb - it's rock !
Sobek is the best i dont know what there is to discuss
This man must hate Ymir didn't even mention him in area denial or damage.
I personally never think of bacchus as damage like ares yea ymir yea but the only time bacchus really ever hurts me is when I see he's building like a mage anyways so I don't see where people are coming from with that
I came early but im at the park fuuuuuuuu

good support need reliable cc imo, i saw some assassin taking support role and do well just because they have cc, like thor, fenrir
other skills that encourages defensive or offensive playstyle like buffs or debuffs make them stronger, but the cc is the main point for me
I miss season 4.
Also, still like Neith support. Heal, strong aoe root, slow even an attack speed slow. Couple in a global stjn that's not too bad now is it! Your level 1 gives you a strong push potential which can help snowball your late game hunter into a lead.
I still remember playing early Season 3 with Vox as a hun batz Fenrir duo lane. 3 kills in fewer minutes was something which blew my mind was possible
How tf did y’all steely claim it
ANY GANESHA MAINS HERE
Any other sylvanus mains out there
When you play ne zha support.
All about the lock down, that nasty cc instant cc the worst kind
Ymir #1 guardian
Definitely!
Securing kills for the whole team obviously!
hades support bb
Video title should read " Basic understanding of abilities in Smite" This has little to do with support gods except your constant mention of the word support. Duke - you don't even rank do you?
Loki support is viable
MAXIMUM DPS
Loki isn't a good support? You gotta be kidding

Just build void stone poly soul reaver and mystical mail
Why support when you can just build damage?
First lol xd
“What makes a good support”
A player who isnt kill hungry and actually cares and makes sure his team is healthy while also not feeding their brains out.
