Why is Stone of Fal not so good right now? The damage reduction is great against ults and heavy abilities, the protects, damage and CDR is useful too. Also, could you do a video on the different forms of Crowd Control, stuns, slows, cripples, roots etc and maybe how they stack and what takes priority and such?
Dunno how you managed to give a *good* overview on counter building in 10mins. IMO it's one of the most complicated concepts in the game, requires alot of item and god knowledge. GG
I've been playing smite for 3+ years and I'm usually the only one that counter builds against gods like Kali and Rama (when I'm not the only tank), so thank you for making this video 🙏
You had a pretty good play in the background footage near the end where you grabbed someone with Fenrir ult and carried them back to Kuku ult, but it was mostly cover by all the stuff on the screen.
I've been picking up Sovereignty in solo just in case my support doesn't. Team Comp and counter building you have well covered. Now for newer players benefit and maybe the hardest to explain is positioning. If you see your entire team retreat from a team fight and you rush in a 1v5.... that's poor positioning. If you are a mid laner mage and you rush in front of your tanks during a small team fight... that's poor positioning. Timing objectives, time markers to start thinking team fight vs laning, etc. Your position on the map compared to your team and time in the match.
I have found a use for Toxic Blade on Hunters. A number of good Hunter builds use Ichaival but if I need anti-heal I swap that for Toxic Blade, both have close to the same AS and Pen buffs.
One thing I always noticed. No matter how many build videos you watch it eventually all comes with experience and knowing what each items do. Just because see you a recommended build in a pro league doesn’t mean you can’t build your own way. Worst case scenarios you lose and your teams shit on you for not building correctly when you were just trying items out and see how they work. Explore the world of items, there’s a lot there and maybe some may work better then you may think.
Hi Duke could you make a video talking about when and when not to build damage on guardians? Because as a ymir solo main I almost always build spear of desolation after my first defense item which lets me one vs two the solo laner and jungler as well as give me really good late game damage while being super tanky.
I think the main issue would be if the god you're playing has naturally high scaling. Ymir, Cabrakan and Cerberus can use that. I think spear of Desolation is a great item since it has the CDR and Pen so you can switch genji and void stone for pestilence or heartward with the spear. I'll try it soon. Thanks
Damage items are good on gods with high scaling. Ymir and Bacchus are some of the best examples. Still, I find that full damage items sacrifice too much in way of tankiness. There are some really good hybrid items for supports, like Void Stone, Stone of Binding, etc.
Dakota Hawkins Ok so this might sound bad but I really get the spear to bully out the other solo laner thats why then go super tank items like bulwark for burst pestilence if needed. I always go pen boots if Im going solo. Then rarely I would use celestial legion helm which can be good but its a strange item. Then you know what ever else you would need in the match build.
Celestial Legion Helm would do _really_ well against most warriors as a second-slot item. Sure, it doesn't have much raw damage as a Deso Spear, but most warriors can't get through the protection stacks because they don't have the kits to do it; the only one I can think of offhand is Cu Chulainn, because of his AoE damage ticks. However, a more general-purpose damage/defense hybrid item, and an _extremely_ common item on guardian solos, is Void Stone. It's got some good magical protections, some health, some power, and a _20-prot reduction aura_ which is pretty much equal to Deso Spear's 20 flat pen. Since it's a defensive hybrid option, it synergizes a bit better with your beefy role of solo.
Another stealth counter item would be Oni Hunters Garb (it states how many enemies are nearby you). If you see nothing on the minimap and are out in the open, a Loki is probably around you
This helped a lot. I had a bakasura giving me trouble in solo lane while I was playing as cu cuchlain*(idk how to spell it) but my dumb self was trying to use mystical mail instead of trying to counter his basic attacks.
Daproperdocter Yeah get thorns, hide of nemean, witchblade, and midgardian. Bulwark also helps depending on the situation. But usually building HP counters most burst and auto attackers since you can eat more hits.
I was thinking the same thing, plus I have a gigantic question... what can you build on an ability based assassin (like Bastet) to counter health? Qins is useless in her :(
Brian Corrales Hodinka yeah ability assassins kinda got the short end in this area. My guess would be probably heart seeker just for the burst. Or you could buy sunder as a relic cause I believe that scales off of % health
I was considering to put it in, but different from many of the other options, it felt a bit misleading to me as those items aren't suitable for the entire classes/roles. I'd rather avoid encouraging Thor with Qin's Sais and often enough, just having more power counters how health very effectively.
hey duke , i know you're primarily a conquest player, would just love to see a bit more information about basic item building strategy. Even if it was just a small breakdown for each mode, as i am having trouble even playing more than a match or 2 at a time, IMO the matchmaking has never been so bad, it's never really been good. But i would say maybe 1/10 games i play seems to have even just 6-10 competent people, that arent just out of position the whole game or rushing Rod of Tuhuti, or building lifesteal like 5th item on their hunter in an assault match, as a veteran of smite, this stuff is just really effecting the enjoyment i take in playing SMITE lately.
Hello Duke, thanks for the lesson. How about showing some concrete applications? Like - show Tab screen mid game and talk about your thought process involved in picking your next item. What do you look for, what do you evaluate, what do you prioritise and why. I often end up in situation where I need to counter several things at the same time, so any help in proper choosing is welcome.
A video on underrated items would be nice. I have over 1000 hours in smite now and things can feel pretty stale. Looking at uncommon items could help bring some life back into the game for others like me.
Hey Duke I'd love if you made a video about the importance of CC reduction and diminishing returns in Smite (I know you've briefly touched the theme but I'd love a more in depth video)
Toxic blade is great for Izanami imo the only anti heal that's actually good on her since she only has 2 abilities that do damage since her 1 is a buff and considered a basic attack and one of the damage abilities is her ult. I haven't tested it but I also believe you get both stacks of toxic blade with one basic if it hits both ways but haven't tested that so not 100% sure if that's the case.
Notif squad!! Hey Duke, could you do a video on god counters (being more specifically geared towards ranked games since you can see who the enemy team is picking)? For example if the enemy team picks picks Mercury and AMC in jungle and ADC respectively and you're playing support, you might wanna pick Geb or Sylvanus to counter them. Also I have a question. If a Geb builds spectral armor, which passive reduces the crit damage first?
Everyone needs to see this👍🏿 there is so many times people can’t build correctly or don’t know how to counter build for a given match. I hate when warriors build breastplate into jotunn’s. It won’t help you survive at all. Or the enemy team has an AA assassin and AA warrior and my teammate build mystical mail instead of something more helpful like midgardian mail or nemean lion😡. Sorry for rant it just gets on my nerves.
I keep telling one of my friends to pay attention to that kind of stuff. He just blows me off saying things like, "it's okay, it's still good". Not that he builds poor items, just not always applicable. For instance, he got upset at me when I asked him why he built pestilence. He said they have too much healing and it's a good item. Until I pointed out they were guan yu, Hercules, and ravanna. You know, all warriors.
I have a real and headcracking question. How can hirez can balance the healing (and lifesteal) mechanics? If you see now almost or all the people build brawlers and divine ruin to counter all the healers but this items counter not only the healers, also can counter adcs and his main damage and sustain role so this items are hard to balance and also the prohealing items like root, could be op in some team comps. Recently aphro got a nerf and Baron is gonna take one nerf but the main problem on this gods are the healing mechanics, you need to buy antihealing, items making your build choises going in one way.
Any tips for PS4 players to help view enemies builds better than just memorizing the icons for items? Unlike PC we can’t scroll over items on the live team/score scream to see their status and passives/actives
Idk, i find antihealing really useful even if the enemy doesnt have a healer or any lifesteal, having that passive healing almost completely denied can really help preventing any god to escape with 1 hp, it increases damage after all And we all know the pain about the 1hp escapes
hey duke I dont know if you have covered it yet but talking about how penetration stacks would be interesting, learning it on my own is kinda weird and I feel like not everyone knows how it works. such as if you have executioner and crusher, which applies first, and then what if you have a team mate with void shield, or say all 3 and you have titans bane.
hachi all of your penetration gets factored in at the same time, with the exception of stacking pen like Executioner, which gets applied as you stack it along side all the other pen. The easiest way to explain pen is let's say they have 30 physical protections, and you have crusher that has 15 pen. They now only have 15 protections. One of his videos this week talked about it in much more depth, but that's the simple explanation.
From first to last applied, it goes: -%prot reduction (Executioner) -flat prot reduction (Void Shield) -%penetration (Titan's Bane) -flat penetration (The Crusher) He had a video a long while ago about it, but the logic is essentially built so that your %pen items are working at maximum efficiency even if you also have flat pen. If the flat pen applied first, then %pen would always end up working less efficiently than it should. Reduction applies before pen because reduction is a debuff, instead of a calculation factored into the direct damage.
Almighty Duke! here's a suggestion: can you give new players advice on the best 2-3 gods for each role (not class) in general and not just the current meta. There are multiple gods that are easy to learn, barely receive changes and are always viable such as Agni, Nu Wa and Poseidon for mid. this can be a great reference for new players who might get confused by the currently large number of gods. please help save their souls before they main Loki !!! Thanks for all the hard work.
Great video! It is very useful. I have a question, though. How can I counter a lot of health with an ability based assassin like Bastet? I know that for physical gods there's Qin's Sais, but that's no good on her.
For mage pen, Magus is almost always better than Shard nowadays. Even one proc can outweigh Obsidian Shard against your most important targets. RIP Shard. Also, man, remember when Spectral Armor would have fit under the "counters walls" category? Counterbuilding is weird because you have to juggle "do I want to max my effective stats" or "do I want to weaken the effectiveness of my the enemy builds." Solo and support have this decision the easiest, since defensive builds are often focused around what you need to shut down. Many players on mages, hunters, and several assassins can't make this decision, however, and lean toward one extreme- they either max damage without regard to their enemy, or they try too hard to counterbuild, and end up with excessively hybrid or tank builds on gods that shouldn't have them (a common newbie mistake is trying to balance out _every_ stat in the game, which leads to crazy builds with boots, two damage items, and three pure tank defense items).
Dukesloth could you make a video on ichaival and trading in the dual lane. I have a friend that not only keeps refusing to build it, but also says is bad or worthless. He keeps saying the asi is better. I could understand this for ability hunters, but to call the item useless.
In defense of your friend, Asi _is_ a great item. However, Ichaival has its place as an early aggression item, and you're basically guaranteed to win trades if you have it.
I have problem with solo lane. Im always playing warrior in solo, but im 90% of the time fighting against guardians. Whenever i fight a guardian in solo lane i lose pls. help i don't know what to do. (It's Cabrakan or Artio most of the times)
Personally, some pen items seem way too strong to me. Think about it: all you need is Titan's Bane, and any physical character can ignore around half a tanks armor. That is honestly unfair.
Titan's Bane and Obsidian Shard kinda suck at the moment. If a tank is stacking _loads_ of prots, then sure, Titan's Bane will almost halve it. But there's still a lot after that, and it does almost nothing to gods with their base 60-70 prots, and there's no really good ways to get around that. You best hope your god can use Executioner, since it's the best physical pen item you've got. Mages, at least, have Spear of the Magus to make up that category and deal true dmg to every squishy ever.
The King It's honestly not unfair at all. Having 60% of your protections still negates a a a shitload of damage. And you gotta remember that Titans Bain ONLY counters protections and none of the Passives and extra stats that go along with the items that give protections. And besides if you do a pure tank build you don't only build protections you also build High HP and Sustain none of which is countered by titans and would require other counter items. Unless your doing a duel. Sacrificing half your build to counter 1-2 of the 5 players is usually not the best option
Spear of Desolation has the best combination of offensive stats in the game, for a burst mage, but it doesn't really count as "counterbuilding." The only thing it counters is some flat prots, which you need to do in all your builds anyway.
Yes I know somebody who gets all their builds from smite fire, and has a massive ego. It's always somebody elses fault I get all my builds from smite fire so it can't be me.
This game has no consistency one game you’re defence does nothing but for others it stops them dying from you what’s wrong with this trash ass game who made this?
For those of you who want the whole list of items to save it for future reference: twitter.com/DukeSlothTV/status/1016573693617692674

I don't get the chart :\

Daddy dukes double upload
I've been playing smite for 3+ years and I'm usually the only one that counter builds against gods like Kali and Rama (when I'm not the only tank), so thank you for making this video 🙏
Going with Chaac and building Frostbound, Witchblade and Midgardian against AA characters is so satisfying!
You had a pretty good play in the background footage near the end where you grabbed someone with Fenrir ult and carried them back to Kuku ult, but it was mostly cover by all the stuff on the screen.
It was Teeds' play!
The KuKu Chomp lol
I do have a hard time counter building so this really helped me thx also........ Early squad where u at

dragontyron good points but deso only has 15 pen now it happened when it got its damage buffed to 100
Thanks so much for posting this. I've struggled with counter building outside of anti-healing

I would add Nemean and Thorns to the Crit counter as well, though they counter crit in a different way
I also like Spear of Deso for early pen on burst mages. It's quite strong paired with shoes of the magi
how do you counter someone with high atack speed? like an Ao kuang with all rings?
Thank you once again especially with this counter build video.
Almighty Duke! here's a suggestion: can you give new players advice on the best 2-3 gods for each role (not class) in general and not just the current meta. Maybe do one for counter picking, like, if the enemy jungler chooses an Awilix, maybe try going with a god with a dash instead of a leap
That wouldn't help the people that don't play ranked though.
So what's the difference between burst and DPS? i thought they were the same
Jurassic King burst is a few high damaging attacks such as abilities. Dps is sustained high damaging attacks such as basic attacks
I agree. Greeting from Europe!
This is one of the most confusing things I've ever seen in a game. Gonna take a while to learn
what are burst and dps?
Athena’s passive works sooooo well w toxic blade.
Dukesloth could you make a video on ichaival and trading in the dual lane. I have a friend that not only keeps refusing to build it, but also says is bad or worthless. He keeps saying the asi is better. I could understand this for ability hunters, but to call the item useless.

Also Loki's stealth can be broken with stuns.
6:00 You forgot kuzenbo. and don't tell me that he technically is not a (build) he is everything, EVERYTHING..
I have problem with solo lane.
Im always playing warrior in solo, but im 90% of the time fighting against guardians. Whenever i fight a guardian in solo lane i lose pls. help i don't know what to do. (It's Cabrakan or Artio most of the times)
Just play better
Buy Titans Bane
Could you make a video on god counters (awilix countering Odin and stuff like that

How do you cancel an ability
right click it doesnt work for all abilities
I still hum the old outdo video...
Hey duke. Can you make new video how to build assasin and how to play assasin's? People tell me "play warriors, you are not assasin"
What about spear of desolation??for me is always the best option
Spear of Desolation has the best combination of offensive stats in the game, for a burst mage, but it doesn't really count as "counterbuilding." The only thing it counters is some flat prots, which you need to do in all your builds anyway.
How do I counter trash teammates?
weiter so mit der Qualität 😊
Can you make a how to build for beginners please 🙏🏻
There's also contagion
Down special
Build full pen all time it always works /s
Mistical mail > void shield
If only there was a beginner button in game that lead to your videos.
Wow Teeds' gameplay has been improved a lot
thank you :)
8:48 I have to add here that the 3 from Ganesha, if (for example) Ymir puts a wall in front of you, your 3 can pass through it xD
That's a great one, but if he'd included all the counter possibilities with god kits, this video would be _very_ long ^^'
Tomas _ 1217 I found that a while ago when I accidentally ran out of odin’s ult 😂😂
Just went 9/20/10 as a zues kill me
People sleepin on stone of gaia
Yes I know somebody who gets all their builds from smite fire, and has a massive ego. It's always somebody elses fault I get all my builds from smite fire so it can't be me.
