I Drove Through Rock, West Virginia Here Is What I Saw

  • Way back in the boonies sits an Appalachia community called Rock, West Virginia. After the coal industry collapsed this area has suffered tough times. Many homes and businesses have become abandoned, and what remains is a reminder of what used to be. Amenities are extremely limited here, and it's a long drive to pretty much anywhere. Quite a beautiful landscape though. Let's take a look and see how some of it looks.
Rock, WV is located in Mercer County. This video is for educational and documentary purposes.

It is so interesting to see some of these communities surrounded by such lovely country scenery, it also must be so down heartening that all the local industry has gone. Many thanks from The UK.

What a shame about those barn looking houses just rotting away. At one time those were probably some really nice homes.😢

This was once a thriving living community. People worked here, went to school and church. Prime example of how one industry took advantage of poor Americans and this is what is left behind. Worked around there in the Oil Exploration business in 1980. It looked bad then too.

Was the beautiful brick building with arched windows a mill or something? I can see people might struggling but the scenery and area are just stunning.. History and memories there galore! This area (and I guess many others?) would be a fantastic tourist area. Lots of money needed to restore the mill but a Hotel, Community Centre/Tourist Info area with Historical photos and information?
Please keep up the important documentation, God Bless.

one of the 2 story actual homes
(As opposed to a moveable one)?
Not at all familiar with layouts from that area, and to see how
    the homes are constructed...
It's got its own weird energy to it...
no animals or kids running around,
    hardly any signs of life.
