    I picked up a lee rittenour CD at a thrift store for almost nothing purely because the album art was interesting, man, that CD is a permanent resident of my changer.

    That kid so very talented! Anybody that wants to be negative are just jealous that they, couldn't play that dang well at 14 or at all. He's awesome! I wish kids and even younger adults would understand that this is MUSIC....Fourteen year olds today are just worried about being famous and knowing only three guitar chords, and make music. I'm very impressed with this kid, and I enjoy listening to him play.

    Today I was sitting in Santa Monica, and a guy went by on a bike. I thought to myself that man looks like #leeritenour . So I asked him if his first name was Lee. He replied "Yes". We talked for about 20 min. It was kind of him to indulge a fan, and to give me something to talk about and remember.

    I remember following Andreas from when he was 12yrs old. He had his own band at the time and he was as spectacular as he was then as he is now. One thing I notice about his playing is that he has matured into playing all types of jazz beats and rhythm. His playing now is way more refined than when he was 12. But hey Andreas at 12 still played better than most of the jazz guitarists at the time but the difference was the ability and talent that most did not have. Oh yeah lee and David what can you say about them. They are not from this world when it comes to playing jazz music. A big thumbs up for everyone and good luck towards the future of keeping jazz music using their contemporary magic to capture its full effect on a d for people Ike myself. Well done!

    I was at this performance in Stravinski Hall at the Montreaux Jazz festival July 19 2013 in Switzerland. This was truly a special moment live also when the entire band played Killer Joe live. This was a concert and Quincy Jones 80th birthday celebration .The whole star personality thing just doesn't happen in Switzerland like in the united States. You will cross paths with most of the artist appearing at the festival at the local store or just walking down the street and it no big deal.

    Andreas Varady (Várady András - born 24 July 1997) is a Hungarian jazz guitarist managed by Quincy Jones. Regarded as a child prodigy, he is influenced by Django Reinhardt, Wes Montgomery and George Benson, and has been performing internationally since the age of thirteen. Anyway... Lee Ritenour keeps an other Hungarian guitarist in big respect whose name is Gabor Szabo.

      Gotta disagree completely... Andreas missed his cue... was late on the uptake... If you watch you can see that Lee is upset... The kid is talented, but he absolutely lost the plot!... I don't think he knew the tune, nor had any real sense of it... He was just strumming for a bit... Eventually he found his way back, but he was so lost!... He'll learn, but he has a long way to go...

    Years ago I saw Carlton and Ritenour together several times, I'm a huge fan of both.. Lee smoked Larry every time.. today I see this young kid, Andreas just heads and tails above Lee.. His knowledge and fluidity are outstanding.. He is going to be the hottest new Jazz player of our times.. For sure. Altho, Lee has tone heads above Andreas for sure.. too bad he tried to compete with him at the end.. Stick with what you know and do the best.. and don't compete with each other boys.. makes you look weak weak weak.. lol

    • @v4714v
      @v4714v 9 років тому +4

      Heads over tails better.. hmm sounds a bit too much. Surely Lee's tunes in his solos were much smoother. Yes, Lee played fewer notes, but I think his solos were always smoother. After all, Lee is known for his smoothness, more than his speed. Andreas might be a bit like George Benson on the guitar - quick, agile and loves to hit those quirky notes. I'm an avid fan of both, as well as Carlton, but it just irks me to say that one smokes the other, or that one is heads over tails than the other. I view them all as equal - they're masters in their own right. Hehe just my two cents. I love Varady too though!
      When all is said and done though, I do agree that Varady will become the hottest new jazz player soon

    • @adriennelee1520
      @adriennelee1520 9 років тому

      True true.. hard to say that one is better than the other.. I'm a huge fan of all three players. I definitely see Varady's talent, and I too think he will shine brightly in the future. I think I was so impressed that I might have blown his playing a little bit out of proportion compared to Larry and Lee.. yet, nothing like youth to put a little more fire into the playing where the older cats might relax a little.

    • @markrice9377
      @markrice9377 9 років тому +3

      Disagree completely!!!... While the kid is talented, he's got years to go to compete on the same stage as Lee... It was obvious that he missed his cue, and lost the tune... you could see in the video that Lee was upset.... Lee wasn't competing with him... Lee was RESCUING him!... Andreas was way off the mark... He was improvising, and badly, for a half dozen bars!... It was clear he'd forgotten the tune!... You could see in Andreas' eyes that he was lost... he was looking over to Lee for direction!... Andreas is talented, but young, undisciplined, inexperienced, and has little knowledge of the legacy of music that he is entering into... One day, perhaps!

    • @twangbarfly
      @twangbarfly 9 років тому

      Never heard Lee "smoke" Larry Carlton, nor have I heard anyone "smoke" Larry for that matter. Although I quite like him, I've always personally thought of Lee as the poor man's Larry Carlton. However, these are ultimately just meaningless personal opinions - they are both superb guitarists and musicians.

    Lee's solo is more organized, the kid has good technique but solo wise needs to be more organized IMO

    Alors la ....voici le comble d'une belle merde un beau plantage dans le chorus du jeune guitariste et Lee n'est pas un musicien de jazz

      Belle merde... beau plantage ... pas un musicien de jazz.. L'exception française se prononce, comme d'habitude, du fond de son trou du cul en s'efforçant de chier sur tout qui se trouve sur son chemin - bravo!

    I must admit, although the soloing is impecible, they did quite butcher this lovley song, I prefer the original, I play the head of this song much higher up on the fret board to better match the horns that play in the original, but again, it's all about interpretation

    Smooth jazz is to jazz what Kate Perry is to Billie Holiday ... tedious, boring, ok for lifts and super markets
