Hi, and thank you for your comment 😸 Having a medical exam on file will help Lemonade in reviewing your claims, but it doesn't mean you'll have to wait for 12 months before the coverage begins. If it's for accidents and any new illnesses, your coverage starts right away - only pre-existing conditions won't be covered. For the latter, we recommend speaking with the company to fully understand what is considered a pre-existing condition, as well as how long you have to wait to ensure your claims are accepted. Nevertheless, kittens are accepted no matter how young. Regarding UTD, we recommend speaking with the company. For example, the pet insurance company might not cover any urinary illnesses due to UTD. Have a purrfect day 😸
I got my cat from the shelter, and the shelter gave me one complimentary checkup at my local vet. The checkup went well. I stupidly and casually mentioned I noticed she had loose stools probably because she was a stray and ate spoil food on the streets, who knows, so the vet sent me home with some meds, and the problem went away. I then purchased Lemonade insurance, who then obtained the record from that vet. 4 months later, my cat had one incident of diarrhea and vomiting so I took her in for a blood and urine test - $350 total. My claim was rejected by Lemonade citing - PRE-EXISTING CONDITION. Either they are playing stupid or just don't know diarrhea is a symptom of many things NOT a disease like cancer or CKD. If my cat got into my trash and ate more rotten meat, can it cause diarrhea? If I switch food too fast, can it also cause diarrhea? They sure can! Lemonade doesn't care, it's happened in 4 months ago, it must be related. All diarrhea(s) are caused by the same underlying condition. The consolation prize Lemonade gave me was - "BTW, good news is if your cat doesn't show any symptoms of diarrhea after a year, it's considered CURED!!!!!" WOW, thank you Lemonade! It only takes a year to cure diarrhea? That's it? How does this insurance company make any money insuring a cat that has DIARRHEA???!!!!!! I reported them to BBB and I am in the process of cancelling the policy. Moral of the story? KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT DURING INITIAL VET VISITS. THEY WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING YOU SAY, WHICH THE INSURANCE CAN USE TO WIGGLE THEIR WAY OUT OF REIMBURSTMENT. And I would not use Lemonade ever again.
Hi, and thank you for your comment. We're sorry to hear about your experience with Lemonade. Unfortunately, all pet insurance services have clauses that might lead to their customers not getting a reimbursement. That's why it's important to read the full contract and fine print before signing up for any insurance service. We hope you're able to find a pet insurance service that better suits your needs, and we wish you the best to you and your cat! :)
yes, by definition that is a pre-existing CONDITION. its not required to be a "disease" to be a pre-existing condition. the condition was that your cat was having GI problems from an unknown issue, it is recurring (since it ahs happened again) so now it is not covered. very very simple. now since its considered a "Curable Condition" you can get covered if it doesnt show up for a 12 month period. From the sample policy available to you before enrolling: From the term definitions page: "Pre-Existing Conditions Any Condition for which a Veterinarian provided medical advice, the pet received treatment for, or the pet displayed signs or symptoms consistent with the stated Condition prior to the Start Date or during any Waiting Period and that is not Cured during a Policy Period. " From the "Whats Not Covered" Section: "What's not covered Pre-Existing Conditions Conditions that existed before the policy’s Start Date or during a Waiting Period, such as Chronic Conditions, Bilateral Conditions, or intervertebral Conditions aren’t covered. However, we do cover some Pre-Existing Conditions that can be Cured, so long as there have been no symptoms or treatment for at least 12 months. Knee Conditions cannot be cured." CONDITION: Diarrhea DID VET PROVIDE CARE: Yes, Office Visit, Advice, and Treatment Provided OCCURRED BEFORE OR AFTER START DATE: before CONDITION CURED FOR 12 MONTHS: no Per the plicy you signed, this is not a eligible claim and Lemonade is the correct party in this dispute.
Lemonade would not take my dog because he’s old even though he’s healthy. They don’t care about your pets. My friend got it for his young cat and he barely saved more than he paid

Hu Obelisk57, and thank you for your comment. We're sorry to hear about your cat and your experience with Lemonade. Considering the circumstances, you did well in filing a complaint with the BBB. Hopefully, Lemonade will see it and may try to solve the problem by providing a refund. We wish you and your fellow cat the best! 🐱

They refused to even give me a quote because my dog is older but he’s a small breed and 12 is like being 8 for a big breed. He’s totally healthy and they refused to even hear us out

I don’t qualify cause my cat is 15 yrs 😢
Are you saying that there is a 12 month health clause before coverage begins? What about kittens and healthy, UTD cats?
