So Ta-kun for Naota until he grew the fuck out of nicknames.. I never understood that line until I finally moved to Japan and lived and studied there for three years.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's actually, "Takkun". With the "Tak" part being a shortened version of his borther's name. And the, "Kun" there as the honorific, as stated before. Also stated before, the nickname, "Takkun" reinforces the idea that Mamimi was using him as a substitute for his brother. And the name reflected that kinda cleverly!
