    If you’re willing to plan ahead, it’s much cheaper to get sapling packs from your local soil and water conservation district (you typically have to order in January and pick up in April). Persimmon is commonly included as are other deer attracting trees like oaks, chestnut, hazelnut, and pawpaw.

      I have looked at those options but haven’t seen persimmon as an option. I did just buy like 9 more from Gurnsey as I’m not sure these others are going to survive. I need to start getting more in the ground to improve my chances.

    Nice video guys, too bad about the coughing....haha, anyway....I just planted 2 Kieffer Pear trees & 3 Jiro persimmon trees & just above that spot to the East, slightly uphill I'm building a tree house/deer stand.....& just up from that i'm going to plant several Dunstan Chestnuts.....& just above that area I've had a deer blind there for the past 15 years.....I'm sure the deer will love my areas....

      Sounds great! I planted 10 apple trees last year and this year 7 American Persimmon, 2 mulberry, 4 Hansen cherry, 6 wild plums, and 2 pecan all along a wood line. I ish I had planted them 10 years ago.

      We need to get better at adding a few each year... we've had a few big bang plantings with varied success... The chestnut trees are doing amazing but the persimmon did not survive so we will be getting replacements this year. Thanks for watching and commenting! - Josh

      Persimmons are finicky, they don't like transplanting so they have to be babied for the first yr minimum, whitetail hill chestnut guarantee there trees if you buy tubes, that's hard to pass, and there late drop

    Nice job. The wait time is so long. Your kids will look the results. I did the same in ga. Took 5-8 years to get them producing and ten years to have good production. Enough to feed deer

      Very happy with how they are doing. We have some apple trees that were planted about 4 years ago and they are starting to produce. Jason

      Chestnut trees are rockin’, and we are awaiting 2 yr old replacements for the persimmon that didn’t make it.

    the wood stakes don't last. They break off at ground level once the weather gets to them. I use PVC pipe

      You sir are very correct. We have moved away from the wooden stakes and are now using t-posts. Lost a few trees due to the wooden stakes and neglect on my part.

    If you plant Early drop chestnuts near late drop, wont they just cross pollinate and you end up with average drop?

    • @HardyBrothersOutdoors
      @HardyBrothersOutdoors  7 місяців тому

      An interesting question. This Big Buck pack is made to plant near one another so I’m assuming that isn’t the case but would have to ask the experts. Lots of trees can cross pollinate one another such as Apples and the fruit outcome isn’t altered. Maybe the seeds would be hybridized, not sure. 🤔

    Will the persimmons grow in Ohio? We are in WI and I just planted 29 apple trees and 4 pear trees.

      Yes they will definitely grow here. I would have to look to see how far north they grow. Jason
